Prior to completing this assignment, it is imperative that you read all information that is provided in this module. Review the powerpoint and take notes on the information that is provided. After completing the reading assignments, you will be familiar with the information that is required to complete this assignment.

1. Save this Tools of Literacy Assignment Outline as a word-processing document (e.g., Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Microsoft Works, etc.) to your desk top, flash drive or hard drive.

2. Identify examples of each of the tools of literacy listed below that are found in the family literature stories in this module.

3. Open the document that you have saved

4. Type the examples that you identified into the appropriate category on the tools of literacy assignment sheet.

5. Then, for each of the eight tools of literacy,

write one new example or interaction that is not found in the stories. Make sure that these examples could occur during everyday activities that infants and toddlers experience. They may occur outside the home, in the car, or in places in the community. Use examples from your own experience or use the family stories to imagine new ways for adults to intentionally use each of the eight tools of literacy.

For this assignment, you will have a total of at least two examples of tools of literacy for each of the categories. (one example from the story and the other is a new example or interaction that is not found in the stories)
