What kind of music do you listen to most (your “ninety percent”), and when did you start to listening to it?

In this radio story “Does Age Quash Our Spirit of Adventure?” Robert Krulwich
considers when our tastes—both musical and culinary—form, and more importantly,
when they ossify. Some questions you might consider in writing your response to this
radio essay are:
o What kind of music do you listen to most (your “ninety percent”), and when did
you start to listening to it?
o What do you think of concept of “Breakthrough minus 20”? What are some music
artists that fit that concept for you?
o What do you think of the hypothesis that the music you listened to before your are
20 is the probably music that you will listen to the rest of your life?
o What kind of music do you not like, and why? Is there any music new to you that
you don’t like, and why not?
o Do you think you are musically stuck in a rut? Do you know anyone that is? Why
do you think that you or they are stuck? Or is it all right to be stuck?
o What audience do you think Krulwich is speaking to? Does his audience affect the
shape of his argument? Does it affect his style?
o What is the thesis (main point) of Krulwich’s story?
o The second part of Krulwich’s story deals with our taste in food: does it support or
distract from his first topic of music?
o What are the broader implications of the theory that there is a window for taste
formation?
