Classmates responds: From my understanding there’s multiple types of syndications which can be “public broadcasting, first run, off network, and more. I believe off network syndication relates with television the most because it “refers to shows that were first aired on network television and are being broadcast again”. Once I read that I immediately thought of shows like “Martin”, “The Parkers” and ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” that mainly comes on everyday but first aired years ago. As for the radio it seems as at a point in time radio was one of the main factors within entertainment and syndication as in the example from the video he stated when a “15 minute show aired at six nights each week and boasted upward of 40 million listeners” which is mind blowing to imagine to me. He also stated how television started to copying radio stations by finding additional programs “to fill the hours in.

Syndication is a modern concept in media which has allowed 24/7 broadcasting. It is a win-win negotiation because producers of content recieve a consistent revenue stream and television networks have enough content to satisfy consumers during all hours. There are two main types of syndication that are lucrative in the entertainment industry. First run syndication refers to shows that have not previously been aired. Off network syndication refers to shows that were first aired on network television and are being broadcasted again (“Re-runs”) . No new episodes but only re-runs on a local broadcast station or cable network. In television syndicators can be offered in packages of films, series, and cartoons.

Radio syndication began around the 1930’s where shows were being distributed throughout the United States. Buying and selling radio shows is still ongoing which today radio shows are most likely downloaded. Indepdent television stations realized they needed additional programming to fill in gaps between orginial productions. Radio is more reasonabily priced as oppose to television, which makes it easier to target a specific demographic at a lower price.
