Applying the concepts and theories of leadership
Team Project for MGT 383
Please, break into teams (from 4 to 6 students in each team) and examine a business leader or leaders (preferably from Saudi Arabia or other Arab countries, but the choice is yours and the company may be located anywhere; if the leader is not from Saudi Arabia, reflect on the implications for Saudi Arabia, e.g., draw some comparisons or parallels with leaders from Saudi Arabia) applying the concepts and theories of leadership introduced in this course.
Please, use the following outline and/or recommendations:
1) Start your paper with a short opening section introducing the business leader or leaders you have chosen to analyze (i.e., present some basic information about the leader and his or her company, the section will be written collectively; no one can claim it as his or her section).
2) Each team member will write a section applying one or more theories of leadership that you feel are most appropriate for examining this business leader’s or leaders’ approach toward leadership as well as his, her or their concrete leadership behaviors in different practical situations.
(3) Each section will start with a short summary of the leadership theory that you will be applying to better understand the business leader or leaders and their leadership-related activities.
(4) Each of you will identify in your section some specific traits, some specific actions or behaviors and some specific competencies (knowledge stocks and skills) of the leader in question.
(5) In each section, you will assess the interaction between the leader (or leaders) you are going to analyze with their followers and the dynamics of such interaction (e.g., leader learning from followers or ignoring them and followers learning from the leader and supporting him or her as opposed to rejecting the leader and exhibiting resistance to his or leadership).
(6) Explain why his or her leadership style or approach has been successful and comment if, at some points, it could have been toxic and make logical arguments supporting your case.
(7) Reflect on whether his or her leadership could teach you what to do and/or not what not to do as leader.
(8) Write a summary as a team putting together your main conclusions. If team members happen to disagree on some issues, clearly state what those issues are, consensus is not required.
(9) Direct quotations should be short (no more than one sentence) and references should be provided.
(10) Include at least one figure to summarize the point or points you will be making (e.g., leader’s or leaders’ behaviors that have led to positive vs. negative and destructive outcomes).
(11) Paper must be typed, double-spaced, please, use 12-point font (New Roman), each section should be at least 4 pages long, submit the paper in Moodle No hard copies are required!
(12) Create a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the main points of each section. Presentation should be no longer than 20 minutes. Afterwards, open the floor for a Q & A session.
