Prequalifying contractors

Yes, most of the companies I have worked for prequalify all contractors, ensuring they comply with all the NIH health and safety requirements. At the bare minimum contractors should be able to comply with applicable (OSHA) and construction regulations, both aiding towards avoiding actions and conditions that may result in an accident. Contractors are also inspected on their overall capacity to fulfill the terms and conditions of the bid, along with ensuring that all subcontractors are being compliant with the safety requirements. Prequalifying contractors prior to work at a job site is crucial to ensuring safety. The contractor is responsible for establishing a safety plan and communicating that plan, and it’s up to the contractor’s crew to follow through with the plan and ensure safety from the beginning to the end. Prior to beginning construction activities contractors were mandated to meet, review, and discuss the safety requirements and to verify that project hazards have been identified.
