Peer review is the process of subjecting the work of an author who is an expert on a subject to the scrutiny of other experts in the field. The purpose is to hold the information in these articles to a high standard and make sure that false information isn’t published.
An article is peer-reviewed if it has been evaluated by several scientific experts in the field and has passed the process. The reviewers will evaluate the following, “validity of the science, the quality of the experimental design, and the appropriateness of the methods used” (Kelly, 2014).
The importance of peer-review is to make sure the information presented is accurate and unbiased.
This process also keeps the quality of manuscripts high. The process also ensures a trusted form of scientific information (Kelly, 2014).
As social workers we want to use interventions that are of evidence-based practice. Using peer reviewed articles is a strong indication that we are using the most quality research that is available in the field.
The content and language of a peer-reviewed research article is different then other forms of writing.
Peer-reviewed articles are free of opinion and commentary. They are strictly objective and based on scientific research. Peer-reviewed articles are also unlikely to have quotes, like we see in editorials and blogs. Unlike websites and editorials, peer reviews articles are unlikely to have photographs.
Articles that are not peer-reviewed are unlikely to be reviewed by experts in the field. They may be reviewed by editors though. Peer-reviewed articles are also formatted in a specific way. This is a strong indication that the articles is peer-reviewed. Peer-reviewed articles are found in peer-reviewed journals and can also be called blind peer-review, scholarly peer review and referred (Verify peer review, 2021).

A peer review is a strategy that is used to enhance and make better a body of work. Often, we see peer reviews as it relates to research and finding articles to support our research. As it pertains to articles, peer reviews occurs when an individual’s peers or colleagues evaluates and in a way grades the work
of the individual. The word peer in this case does not mean their friends or family, but yet the individuals that are typically in the same field of work as them. For example, an author will be peer reviewed by other authors or a student will have their work reviewed by other students or colleagues
within the school system. Peer reviews is important in the research process as it gives the body of work confirmation to be utilized and deemed essential to the subject of the research. In addition, it proves that the information is valid and worthy of being used. This is important because when conducting research, false information can be misleading, which ruins the research as a whole. The language between peer reviewed and other articles or blogs are different. Peer reviewed articles are informing and are constructed to teach and inform. The tone of a peer reviewed article is more of one that someone who is learning about a new topic can follow. Other forms such as websites or
blogs might be more persuasive or trying to convince someone about a topic.
