1) Discuss the impact of policing and mass incarceration in the U.S. Based on your
understanding of the course materials, what do you think are the most urgent areas for
advocacy and social change? Including the readings by Goff, Zarrugh, the film “Pushout”,
and the film “Whose Streets?” in your analyses of the question.
2) To what extent does the United States government succeed or fail in protecting the
safety, rights, and interests of the people who reside in the U.S.? This question can be
answered using a wide range of the course materials, and you can choose any 5 that you
find most helpful, in constructing your essay.
3) How does racism in the U.S. legal system affect the health of communities of color?
Incorporate the readings by Bhatnagar, Benz, and Li & Yuan in your discussion, as well
as any other course materials you find helpful.
