-You are to critically review two academic sources. i.e. Summarise, compare and contrast, critique.
Assignment guidelines:
-You are permitted to have one academic source and another source such as a news article.
-The sources should offer contrasting perspectives on some aspect of the study of popular culture and politics. For example, the sources might disagree about the value of using popular culture to study politics, or they might disagree about the relationship between politics and popular culture. You could also examine perspectives about a particular piece of popular culture or maybe a political debate within popular culture (there have been many in recent times).
-The word count is 1000.
Do the following:
In the introduction (one paragraph ~100 words)
introduce your topic
introduce the sources (mention title and author)
briefly indicate the similarities and differences between the sources
provide your assessment of the sources (note which you prefer; although perhaps you prefer neither and have your own perspective). You can think of this part of the introduction as your thesis.
In the body
briefly summarise each source (brevity is key – the interest lies in the comparing and contrasting and the evaluation)
provide details about the similarities and differences between the sources, focussing on the differences (differences tend to be more interesting).
indicate which source you think is the most compelling and provide reasons. You might also argue that both sources are deficient and suggest a superior perspective.
don’t include a conclusion
Reference list
include a reference list with the two sources and any additional sources you draw upon.
