Peer Review: Workshop Response Letter
You should spend 45-60 minutes reading and responding to each draft. Please be expansive and thoughtful in
your comments, making points and raising questions that you think will help the writer revise.
Write a (1-2 page) letter to the paper’s author addressing the following questions:
▪ In your own words, what is the paper’s research question?
▪ Assess the author’s review of the literature. How well does the author convey a systematic understanding of
past scholarship? How does the author suggest an original or worthwhile contribution to the scholarly
conversation?
▪ Assess the author’s methodological design: How does the author plan to collect and analyze data? How
appropriate is the design for answering the research question? How effective is the design? How well has the
author addressed ethical considerations?
▪ Assess the author’s structure: How is the paper organized and how effective is the organization?
