Title: Investigation of structure and function of receptor phosphatase CD148 – a key platelet protein
Abstract
State it was a hybrid approach (bioinformatic & experimental)
Abstract should concisely cover: background, aim / hypothesis, methods, results, discussion
Contents list
Intro
End paragraph of intro with aims and hypothesis. Aims are normally written as a “To…” statement. AIM – To sequence the human genome. Objectives – how you are going to achive the goal/specific things you did to tackle the aim
Methods
Are supposed to provide sufficient information so that another qualified person could repeat the experiment. They are not just a description.
Results
Use some text to ‘frame’ your results – briefly put in context the results you are presenting. See how it is done in a research paper. Don’t just paste in a series of figures and tables.
Use a different sized font and spacing for figure legends to distinguish body text from legend
Try to organise the histograms so you have several panels on one figure. For example – first fig scatter graph; – 2nd fig – all FC results for platelet characterisation. 3rd fig – all results un-stim/stim side by side
Discussion
Briefly re-state what results you obtained
- How are these findings significant, important or novel
- How do they compare with other published results
- What can you say in regard to your hypothesis
- What were the limitations of the research
- Thoughts about future directions given more money time to continue the project
