Leadership Theories: Reflection

Minimum 1 page, Maximum 2 pages total – be clear and concise, while still covering all 3 bolded elements below.

Note: Clarity and conciseness are critical to effective leader communication, therefore I WILL deduct points for going over the maximum page guidelines for each assignment. This is just as important as being thorough and addressing all assignment content (and, to ensure thoroughness, there is also a minimum page requirement). Leaders always have to balance being ‘complete’ with being ‘clear and concise’. These assignments will be good practice. 😉

Part 1

Consider the key leaders who have influenced you in your career and/or life. You may have worked with them directly or not at all (i.e. they may be famous business, military, political, religious, etc., leaders — as long as you know enough about his/her leadership style to answer the below questions). Now select just ONE to focus on for this assignment.

**Use the readings from this week to ensure you are selecting a LEADER vs. a MANAGER.**

For your selected leader, identify which of the leadership theories covered in this week’s lectures is the ‘best fit’ for this leader. In other words, consider his/her leadership approach and determine whether it best represents the Trait approach, the Behavioral/Skill approaches, the Contingency/Situational approaches, or the Transformational approach.

1. Identify the leader and his/her primary approach, then explain what brings you do this conclusion (provide your rationale… be sure to tie your rationale to the readings and lectures to explain why they are a leader vs. manager, and to justify the theory you selected).
