Description of the Response Essay Assignment
This course meets the Writing Requirement of the General Education Program and this assignment is intended, of course to meet that requirement, but perhaps more importantly, to provide you with an opportunity to strengthen your writing skills. It is important to underscore that this assignment is not to produce a research paper. All you need to do is write an essay in response to the book that you choose. You need not read any other book or source other than the book you have chosen. The essay should be approximately 10 pages in length. You may select double spacing or space and a half. You do not need to include a bibliographic page. You should use parenthetical citations for both direct quotations and summarized material (e.g., Synder, Blacklands, p. 63). Your essay should respond to the questions found below with your assigned book. But, you may also include other questions that you find interesting to pursue.
