STEP ONE: Watch ThisWatch this video, which is a clip from the award-winning musical Get Up! Stand Up!: The Bob Marley Musical, which is now playing in the UK.The idea behind the musical seems pretty self-explanatory: it’s the story of one of the greatest musicians and cultural figures of the 20th Century, put onstage as a play, using that musician’s own music to help tell the story, and as you’ll see, this show is like watching a play and a Bob Marley concert in one.After going through the Discussions on the birth and evolution of Musical Theater, and watching the above clip, start thinking about what kind of music, or what artist, or what style of dance, you would like to see form the basis of a Musical, especially one that hasn’t been done yet. Is it Klezmer music? Zydeco? Fado music from Portugal, Banda from Mexico, Icelandic sea shanties, Scottish pop music from the early 1980s? A favorite singer or band? It can be just about anything, but you will get points for originality. All you need to do is think about what you would like to see, and think about why.Post your idea below and MOST IMPORTANTLY: Post a clip of the music or performer so that we can get an idea of what you’re going for.
