I will deduct marks for poorly written responses (poor grammar, spelling, and sentence structure)Mac is a third-grade student who has exhibited emotional and/or behavioral disorder characteristics since he was four years old. As soon as his mother noticed he was aggressive toward his younger brother, as well as hurting animals, she had him assessed by a psychologist. This resulted in Mac being placed in an at-risk preschool program, where his behavior remained unchanged. By grade one he was seeing the school psychologist on a weekly basis. His teacher could not handle his behaviour and teach effectively to the other students, so at the end of the year, it was recommended that Mac be placed in a special education classroom starting in grade two. Between grades two and the start of three, he has stayed in the special education classroom, where he continues to challenge authority, is defiant, and disobedient. Mac also continues to struggle in both his academics and in his social environment. The school team has decided that he could benefit from multiple supports and strategies in the special education classroom to improve his behavior, academic progress, attendance, and socialization before he transitions to the inclusive classroom with his peers. What supports and strategies would you recommend to improve his behavior, academic progress, and socialization?
