Discussion 3.3: voice: persona and tone (student-led)

Our discussions will help you complete Assignment 3 of your Poetry Portfolio, found on the Unit 3 Portfolio Instructions page. In this discussion well think about the relationship between a poems persona and tone, and its meaning.
Begin by reading On the Amtrak from Boston to New York City by Sherman Alexie (716-717).  Describe the speaker and the emotions you hear. Which emotions are in conflict?  In what specific ways does the poet express that conflict?  What are the moral lessons of this poem?
