San Bernardino Valley College Modern Art History Discussion
This week we learn a bit more about one of Modern Art’s most well-known painters, Vincent van Gogh. Much of van Gogh’s legacy (and that of arguably some other well-known artists too) centers not just around the quality of his work, but also around the myth of him as a tortured artist. The idea of the tortured artist trope or theme comes up a lot in Modern art history and is worth considering. In the video above, the presenter muses on the question of whether artists are really more tortured than the rest of us. The discussion in the video considers this myth and the studies that assess whether there might be a link between creativity and mental illness.InstructionsAt the end of the video, the presenter poses the question: What are the things in life that kindle and support your creativity? Answer this question in a reply post below and tell us what helps your own creativity.
