ETSU Maxwells Demon: A Discourse on Thermodynamics and Information Theory Essay

ESSAY In 1867, British scientist James Clerk Maxwell postulated a thought-experiment intended to raise questions concerning the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. He postulated a “demon” who would save the universe by separating high- and low-energy particles, and thus preventing the ultimate heat death of the universe (or creating perpetual motion). Do some research on your own and describe (in some detail) the Maxwell’s Demon idea. Examples: Why it is important in terms of explaining the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics? Does it defeat the “entropy problem”? Why or why not? Can you come up with a different scenario which describes entropy better? Is there one in which the demon wins?
