The first part of the assessment is a 1500 word coursework which will require you to critically analyse a model of policing which is used within a specific area in England and Wales.
Within the coursework you should:
- Identify a model of policing within a chosen area in England and Wales. (Identify policing structure/ models and changes/ neighbourhood policing)
- Consider the impact of the model in reducing risk, threat and harm. (Neighbourhood policing work? Strengths and weaknesses)
- Explain why the model is used by the chosen force area? (Why do police forces adopt such models?)
- Consider what internal and external factors and influencing the impact of the model? (Austerity, staff numbers and resources, press coverage, is it measureable and PEEL, does it work?, [political pressures and do communities always want what is best?)

Essay Plan:
Introduction: Overview of your findings and what the piece is going to examine.
Part 1: History of Policing: Consent/ Proactive/ Reactive/Quasi-Model. Include within this section why the changes of history and think about resources and changing patterns in crime.
Part 2: Overview of WMP or a chosen force. This will include basic structure and force priorities.
Part 3: What has worked and what has the force struggled with? These could include analysis of: Use of Force, Taser, Diversity and Inclusion, Ethical practice and intelligence gathering.
-Include examples such as Project Champion ect.
Part 4: What would impact on the effective running of the force?
-PCC and political pressures;
-Public Trust and confidence;
-Resources and funding cuts;
-Officer numbers
Conclusion: Sum up the core points and theme of the essay.
1500 words but 10% over/under is applied.
