The American military engaged in numerous conflicts between the end of the American Revolution and the beginning of the Civil War in 1860. During this period, the American military fought Mexicans, British, numerous Native American tribes, and even African or Caribbean pirates. Many of these were expansion quests at the expense of non-American or Native American people.
As an American living in the 19th century, would you have supported these wars of expansion or control, especially in light of the philosophy of manifest destiny? Why, or why not? Choose a point of view (political, economic, religious, or social), and reflect on the consequences of early 19th century conflict in America (Post Revolution, 1848).
