How can nurses provide additional support for elderly patients when their main concerns revolve around the home as a place of fear for their return?

The project problem states, “How can nurses provide additional support for elderly patients when their main concerns revolve around the home as a place of fear for their return?” Due to the nature of the nursing workload in the hospital setting, discharge planning tends to be pushed aside due to other priorities. However, it is important that as much as patients are cared for in the inpatient setting, they also need proper preparations for their home setting. The project’s purpose is to provide assistance for nurses and develop a nursing resource guide with regards to important points needed in discharge planning. Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Deficit nursing theory (Orem, 1991; Orem et al., 2003) is utilized as the theoretical framework for the project. Five content experts will review the resource guide for content validity.

How organizational attributes, culture, or behaviors either support the success of the theme or impede the theme.

Role of IT in Organizations:

There are two parts to this activity.  The first part involves researching concrete examples of organizations using technology to reinvent themselves in some manner. The second part will be to look for generalized themes from those examples and develop a summary of what you learned about the impact of IT on organizations through your research.

Part 1: Identify Reinvention Stories

You will first need to find three (3) examples of organizations (business, non-profit, government agency, etc.) that have successfully transformed themselves (or a large portion of their operations) in the last 5-10 years through the effective use of information technology. After finding and researching as much as you can about these examples, document your findings that you organize into short summaries for inclusion in your assignment submission.  Each summary should be concise, but tell the story and include the following elements:

  • Name of the organization and related URLs.
  • The type of organization (business, non-profit, government, etc.) and a little about the nature of what they do.
  • A description of the technology-oriented business transformation they pursued including: why they did it, how they did it, and the resulting outcomes.
  • Your own observations on what went well and where they may have stumbled. How could they have done better and where should they be going next?

Part 2: Identify Common Themes of Success

After researching and summarizing your example Reinvention Stories above, you should use them to identify common themes related to how organizations successfully leverage technology to grow, reinvigorate or even reinvent themselves.  You should identify 2 themes and provide supporting narrative of each theme that includes the following elements:

  • Description of the theme.
  • Why you identified this theme.
  • How organizational attributes, culture, or behaviors either support the success of the theme or impede the theme.

The supporting narrative for your themes should be added to your Reinvention Stories as part of a single document that you submit as your work on this assignment.  This length of this entire report (both parts) should be be addressed in 800-1,000 words.  It should also reflect good writing, readability, spelling/grammar, and above all, original work on your part. The completed report, including all citations, should be written using APA format and posted to this assignment folder by the due date specified with this assignment.

What was your personality type?

Personality Packet

This activity has two parts. This first section requires you to take and compare two personality tests and answer some questions about them. First access the link named personality test 1 on the course website on this week’s lesson page and take that test. The link to this test is also found here:

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

Once you finish you need to read your results carefully and answer the following questions.

1. What was your personality type? Make sure to give the four letters here and the percentages for each.

Now read the full description of your type listed just below your score (and slightly to the left…it should say something like ENTP type description). Read all the way down through the functional analysis section of the description. Then google your type (for example, ENTP) and read the short descriptions offered at 16personalities.com and the personality page (which offers a portrait of your type). These should be the first two links that come up, or very close to that. If for some reason they are not functional, you can choose two other sites to read descriptions of your type.

2. How accurate were these website’s description of your personality? Include details and give a paragraph response on how valid you found the descriptions of your personality and why.

3. Now access the link named personality test 2 on the lessons page and take that test. The link to this test is also found here:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/personality-quiz/

Once you take that very short test then read the results that pop up below your score on the website. If you scroll down it explains what each of the categories in your personality score means. Once you have done that then compare this second personality test to the first one you took. In at least a full paragraph give your score, and then describe which one you think better captured you and was more accurate. Explain why.

4. Compare the major personality tests that your textbook discusses (p.415-417 at the very end of the Personality chapter) and explain why you think some tests are better than others. To get full credit for this question you must specifically mention the two different categories of tests that are mentioned in those pages of your textbook, briefly describe the major tests that fall into each category, provide some specific drawbacks or advantages of the categories in general, and then finally offer your brief opinion as to what is the best way to assess someone’s personality.

5. What have been the dominant influences on your personality? Why are you the way you are? What, if anything, would you like to change about your personality and how would you go about doing that?

Once you finish reflecting and writing on these questions it is time to complete the self-actualization interview portion of this activity. On the next page you will find information regarding this second part of the project. Simply follow those directions, complete the interview, and answer the questions on that sheet. You will turn in both these questions and the interview questions together as one word document or pdf file on the course Sakai site through the “assignments” tab on the left of the course home page to receive your grade for this personality packet activity.
