Leadership Theories: Reflection

Minimum 1 page, Maximum 2 pages total – be clear and concise, while still covering all 3 bolded elements below.

Note: Clarity and conciseness are critical to effective leader communication, therefore I WILL deduct points for going over the maximum page guidelines for each assignment. This is just as important as being thorough and addressing all assignment content (and, to ensure thoroughness, there is also a minimum page requirement). Leaders always have to balance being ‘complete’ with being ‘clear and concise’. These assignments will be good practice. 😉

Use 1.5 line spacing with no more than 1” margins.

Part 1

Consider the key leaders who have influenced you in your career and/or life. You may have worked with them directly or not at all (i.e. they may be famous business, military, political, religious, etc., leaders — as long as you know enough about his/her leadership style to answer the below questions). Now select just ONE to focus on for this assignment.

**Use the readings from this week to ensure you are selecting a LEADER vs. a MANAGER.**

For your selected leader, identify which of the leadership theories covered in this week’s lectures is the ‘best fit’ for this leader. In other words, consider his/her leadership approach and determine whether it best represents the Trait approach, the Behavioral/Skill approaches, the Contingency/Situational approaches, or the Transformational approach.

1. Identify the leader and his/her primary approach, then explain what brings you do this conclusion (provide your rationale… be sure to tie your rationale to the readings and lectures to explain why they are a leader vs. manager, and to justify the theory you selected).

2. Next, identify what you believe are his/her key strengths and challenges, and briefly how you see these factors (positive and negative) impacting his/her leadership effectiveness

Part 2

3. Finally, based on the lectures and readings for Modules 1, which theory or theories most resonate with you and why (i.e. align best with how you think about leadership)? Which do not resonate with you and why?

Why do firms tend to cluster into strategic groups?

Address one of the following bullet points and its sub-points:

· Although strategic groups tend to be rigid, they are by no means fixed. One of the things managers have to be aware of is which firms may change group membership. With the results from Year 13 of the simulation, consider the following:

· Why do firms tend to cluster into strategic groups?

· Would it not make sense for firms to spread out across strategic spaces? Why or why not? Explain your rationale.

· How likely is it that firms competing in other strategic groups will adapt their strategy to compete directly against you? Explain your rationale.

· Which firms currently not in your strategic group would be most likely to try and enter your group? Why?

· Firms also sell in the Internet markets and have to coordinate the Internet marketing strategy with the branded marketing strategy.

· How do firms that are successful in the Internet market balance their sales there with those in retail markets?

· Is there any evidence showing firms that emphasize the Internet channel are being hurt in the retail channel and vice versa? Support your answer with examples.

· A firm has to market an athletic shoe product line that it orders from its factories. Which decisions on the Production and Labor screens are critical to coordinate with the firm’s marketing strategy? Why?

suggest how the personalized plan of care might change if the age of the patient were different and/or if the patient had a comorbid condition, such as renal failure, heart failure, or liver failure.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses and respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days by suggesting additional patient factors that might have interfered with the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes of the patients they described. In addition, suggest how the personalized plan of care might change if the age of the patient were different and/or if the patient had a comorbid condition, such as renal failure, heart failure, or liver failure.

What were the likely consequences for the balance of power and role of women as societies shifted from hunting and gathering to agriculture?  Why?

DISCUSSION QUESTION; 6-7SENTENCS

Some scholars have argued that the hunting and gathering ways of life for both Homo erectus and Homo sapiens allowed women – biologically, through their lactation and child-rearing, and calorically, through their dominant role as gatherers – to make a larger and more significant contribution to their communities than their male counterparts did.  In what ways might the development of settled agriculture have ushered in a shift in these gender roles?  What were the likely consequences for the balance of power and role of women as societies shifted from hunting and gathering to agriculture?  Why?

Describe how the four functions of management relate to each other.

The assessment should be double-spaced, in 11-point Georgia font, and no fewer than 500 words, not including the title page and reference page.

Scenario (fictional):

SuperPetPlus (SPP) supplies premier pet supplies to predominantly cat and dog owners across the globe via their website and social media. On their website, they say, “Our mission is to provide superior quality pet supplies to everyone everywhere.” The company’s vision statement says, “We will improve the well-being of pets, creating environmentally friendly and affordable products.”

Their values are also listed on the website as:

“We value our customers’ needs and wants regarding their pets.”

“We provide transparent processes and materials to improve pets’ well-being and the environment.”

“Our employees, our customers, and their pets are our priority.”

The CEO is in the process of shifting to retirement and has not been a hands-on CEO for some time. They are considering appointing the finance director to the CEO position in their place. The company’s strategy is to use innovative natural materials to create practical pet supplies. These pet supplies are tested by employees to ensure they really address customers’ needs. But due to escalating prices, there have been complaints on social media. The comments include negative posts regarding the lack of affordability, which impacts sales and shows up in the customer service comments database. In addition, due to pressure from the managers to reduce costs from the finance director, the plants have been receiving material that has not always been environmentally friendly.

The headquarters is located in Madison, Wisconsin, for the executive staff. The rest of the employees are either virtual (like sales, marketing, customer service, and human resources), while their manufacturing plants are located in both Oklahoma (Western Division) and West Virginia (Eastern Division).

Assessment Checklist:

· Describe how the four functions of management relate to each other.

· Introduce SuperPetPlus’s current corporate mission, vision, and values in light of reality at this company.

· Keeping in mind the organization’s mission and vision, identify and describe one strategic and relevant goal.

· Identify and describe a tactical goal that the company will need to address to successfully reach the strategic goal you identified. Include one example.

· Identify and describe one operational goal that the company will need to address to successfully reach the strategic goal you identified.

· Explain the appropriate position title of the employee in the organization responsible for managing the goals at each level (i.e., strategic, tactical, and operational).

· Explain what form of power would be most useful at each level (i.e., strategic, tactical, and operational).

· Describe at least one formal control that would aid in evaluating progress toward the operational goal you identified. Be sure to indicate how you would measure the control.

Identify the genes that may be associated with the development of the disease.

Case Study Analysis

An understanding of cells and cell behavior is a critically important component of disease diagnosis and treatment. But some diseases can be complex in nature, with a variety of factors and circumstances impacting their emergence and severity.

Effective disease analysis often requires an understanding that goes beyond isolated cell behavior. Genes, the environments in which cell processes operate, the impact of patient characteristics, and racial and ethnic variables all can have an important impact.

An understanding of the signals and symptoms of alterations in cellular processes is a critical step in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. For APRNs, this understanding can also help educate patients and guide them through their treatment plans.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Evaluate cellular processes and alterations within cellular processes
  • Analyze alterations in the immune system that result in disease processes
  • Identify racial/ethnic variables that may impact physiological functioning
  • Evaluate the impact of patient characteristics on disorders and altered physiology

In this Assignment, you examine a case study and analyze the symptoms presented. You identify cell, gene, and/or process elements that may be factors in the diagnosis, and you explain the implications to patient health.

The Assignment (2-page case study analysis)

Develop a 1- to 2-page case study analysis in which you:

  • Explain why you think the patient presented the symptoms described.
  • Identify the genes that may be associated with the development of the disease.
  • Explain the process of immunosuppression and the effect it has on body systems.
