In this assignment, you are asked to investigate and evaluate the operations, processes, and layout of a café at your own choice. You should visit your selected outlet to complete the evaluation tasks. Please note that your selected outlet could be located anywhere in the UK or abroad.
Below are just some examples of cafés you might visit.

Based on the visit, you need to write a report of 2,500(+/- 10%) words. Please include in your report the following areas.
a). Give a brief introduction to the specific outlet that you have observed. Describe its facilities, inputs/outputs, 4Vs, and the types of processes and layout. Argue whether the processes and layout are appropriate for the outlet. You should sketch out the layout/flow of the outlet.
b). Identify the “five performance objectives” of the outlet. Critically evaluate the performance of the outlet on each objective.
c). Select an important process in the outlet to evaluate their flows and steps. You should apply the process mapping technique to describe the process in detail, and state how the activities within the process relate to each other. Critically evaluate the flow of the process and try to challenge the current setting of activities, and find ways to improve the current process (e.g. based on Lean philosophy).
Use the models and frameworks from operations management to facilitate your analysis, such as 4Vs transformation model, process and layout design, process mapping, Lean operation, etc.

1. The Melnyk (2019) describes how to access guidelines. Review the data bases and search for one clinical practice guideline that interests you. If your identified clinical problem and PICOT lend themselves to a clinical practice guideline, you may want to choose a clinical practice guideline related to your clinical problem and PICOT. It may be more than possible that there is not a clinical practice guideline that is related to your identified clinical problem and PICOT…..that is more than fine……then choose a clinical practice guideline that is simply of interest to you. A. Name the guideline. B. Name the resource (database) which housed this practice guideline. C. State the strength of the guideline based on the validity and reliability of its recommendation. D. Describe how Briana’s mother should change meal preparations to be healthier.
In this video a 12 year old girl, Briana, is struggling with morbid obesity. She weighs over 300 pounds. She has been told that being this overweight will affect her health. She also feels very self-conscious about her weight and is bullied by her classmates. Briana’s parents express concern about her health as well. When her mother is interviewed about what food she serves the family she appears to be very interested in making any necessary changes. A trip to the market to find out what she purchases for family meals reveals that she does not seem to know what would be best to prepare for Briana so she can lose weight. Briana’s mother appears to be “stuck” on buying what she thinks are healthy foods which includes canned vegetables and very little fresh fruit and vegetables.

The concept of “Coventry” is the idea that law breakers should be isolated away form society in a place where they can make their own laws. This is not a prison, per se. This is a place (perhaps as large as a state) set aside where those who do not wish to live according to the laws of their society can go and live either without laws or with laws of their own making. They are prevented from leaving that territory by guards and other methods.
