what has changed in Taíno (Las Casas) or Nahua/Mexica (Sahagún) society due to the encounter with the Spanish?

History week 2 Latin American Studies
For this assignment, you will be analyzing the excerpts of Bartolomé de las Casas’s “A Brief Account of the Destruction of the Indies” and Bernardino de Sahagún’s “A General History of New Spain” in Latin American Voices, chapter 1. (In addition to carefully reading these accounts, you’ll also want to read Chasteen’s introduction to the chapter and his introduction to each excerpt. Let me know if you need copies of the documents)
As you read the accounts, note when each author is:
Describing a change – what has changed in Taíno (Las Casas) or Nahua/Mexica (Sahagún) society due to the encounter with the Spanish?
Describing a continuity – what has remained the same, or generally unchanged, in Taíno or Nahua/Mexica society?
Providing context – both authors are writing primarily for an audience that won’t visit Hispaniola or Mexico. What context or explanations are they providing to their readership?
Delivering content – what information about events, people, ideas, or places are the authors providing? Why might they be focusing on this content in particular?
What you’ll be submitting:
For this assignment, you’ll be filling out a table of examples with quotes and page numbers. After completing the table, you’ll write a short reflection (150-250 words) comparing and contrasting Las Casas and Sahagún’s accounts, including but not limited to their use of Native sources and informants, their views of Spanish behavior, and their authorial approaches or styles in presenting evidence and constructing an argument.

What was the reasoning used by the Supreme Court to reach its decision?

U.S. Supreme Court Case Essay
(Since this is a Criminal Law class, please only use cases that have an issue arising out of criminal law. Also remember that you cannot reuse a case that you briefed in another class as that is considered plagiarism.)

  1. The following presentation is intended to help students complete the Supreme Court case essay assignment for Criminal Law.
  2. Choose a Supreme Court case that interests you. You may choose any case on a criminal law topic heard by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) to research and write an essay about it. However, please choose a case that was heard by the Supreme Court from 2009 to the present. Again, please do not choose a case that is older than 2009. This will help ensure that you are writing your essay on current, relevant case law. One example is Birchfield v. North Dakota, 579 U.S. __ (2016), but there are hundreds more!
  3. Research the details about the case (answer the 5 research questions: Who, What, When, Where and Why). Take notes about what you discover. Note the sources of your information. You must list your sources at the end of the essay in Bluebook or APA citation format, use proper footnotes in Bluebook format throughout the essay or you may use in-text citation if you are using APA, and properly cite the sources of each piece of information in the essay itself. For details on how to do this, please review the Legal Studies Program Writing Guide in the APUS Library. Of course you can also use the Bluebook, and you may ask your professor for assistance as required.
  4. After researching a case, organize the information you have collected by making an outline. A basic structure for organizing your information might be as follows.
    A. Introduction:
  5. Identify the name of the case and when it was heard before SCOTUS.
  6. Identify the parties involved in the case.
  7. Briefly describe the focus of the case.
    B. Describe the case itself: What was the controversy in the case?
    C. How did the case move through the courts before reaching SCOTUS?
  8. What court had original jurisdiction in the case?
  9. How had previous courts ruled in the case?
    D. What did the Supreme Court rule in the case?
  10. What was the argument of the majority opinion?
  11. What was the argument of the minority opinion?
    E. What was the reasoning used by the Supreme Court to reach its decision? How did it reach its decision?
    F. Conclusion: How does the Court’s ruling in the case affect Americans today?
  12. Has the Court’s ruling in the case affected other rulings in other cases?
  13. Has the Court’s ruling affected the interpretation and enforcement of any particular laws, and how those laws are enforced?
  14. If applicable: Has the Court’s ruling in this case affected you, or someone you know, personally?
  15. Write your essay. If you organized your information based on the suggested outline, then all you have to do is write down what you have learned from your research, and put it into a footnoted two to three page essay. Your first paragraph is the introduction (the information under letter A of your outline). The second paragraph is the information under letter B, and so on.
  16. Sources: Be sure to cite your sources, using sequentially numbered footnotes. That means any information you learned from another source, such as a website, a magazine article, a videotaped interview etc., must be properly noted in your essay. Make sure you use footnotes in proper BlueBook or APA citation style. Footnotes appear at the bottom of EACH page, not at the end of the document (those are endnotes). If you have questions about citations, ask your instructor prior to turning in the assignment.

Develop a 7-page process improvement plan for a provided scenario or a business and process of your choice, using data to support your recommendations.

Develop a 7-page process improvement plan for a provided scenario or a business and process of your choice, using data to support your recommendations.
Introduction
This portfolio work project, a process improvement plan, will help you demonstrate competencies in process documentation, process analysis, and process improvement.
Scenario
For this assessment, you will apply this scenario in the Requirements below.
Option 1
Wild Dog Coffee Company, a locally owned company with a single coffee shop location, serves a wide selection of espresso products, small breakfast and lunch menu items, and a limited evening menu. The company is planning to expand the business by adding an additional location. While different menu items may be tested at the new location, the espresso beverage preparation process will remain exactly the same. The company wants to ensure that the espresso beverage preparation process is documented and refined before the move.
Your Role
Option 1
You are one of three owners of Wild Dog Coffee Company. Your background is primarily in operations. Your business partners’ backgrounds are in marketing and sales. While they are working on the external aspects of the business that will bring customers in, you are focused on making the internal customer-facing processes as efficient as possible. You are preparing an analysis and recommendations that will help manage a core process improvement for the successful opening of a second location.
equirements
Include the following in your process improvement plan:
Assess the steps for a selected process.
Develop a flowchart showing the process’ steps. You may include as many steps as are relevant for your selected scenario.
If using Wild Dog Coffee Company, show the steps for preparing an espresso beverage (for example, latté, cappuccino); there are two steps that must be included: (1) order is submitted and (2) beverage is handed to the customer. Hint: You may want to visit a local coffee shop to observe the beverage preparation process.
Prepare a procedure documenting the selected process. At a minimum, the procedure must document the following for your selected process:
Metrics. Identify at least two metrics that will be useful in determining how well the new process is performing. Be sure to identify the target value of the metric and how you will measure it.
For Wild Dog Coffee Company, it could be how well the beverage preparation process is performing. A third metric is already identified for you: order delivery time. (This is the time between when the order is submitted and the time the beverage is handed to the customer.)
Procedure. This section describes each step of the process.
For Wild Dog Coffee Company, your procedure should be titled, “Espresso Beverage Preparation Process.” Be sure to include order submittal and handing the beverage to the customer as part of the procedure.
Purpose (of the procedure). This section describes what the procedure is intended to do.
Analyze data for process changes for a selected process. Respond to the following questions:
Is the process centered? Provide the results of your calculations and the rationale for your decision by thinking about the process capability.
Is the process capable at 3-sigma? Provide the results of your calculations and the rationale for your decision by thinking about the process capability index.
Is the process in statistical control? Provide the appropriate numbers and the rationale for your decision using a control chart for individuals.
For Wild Dog Coffee Company, analyze the Beverage Service Times [XLSX] data. This data is for 50 beverage preparation events and was collected using their order processing system. Each individual order gets a time-stamp when it is placed and again when the beverage is handed to the customer. The senior barista thinks the beverage delivery times should range between 2 and 3 minutes. The known process standard deviation, which has been calculated on an on-going basis, is 0.5903 minutes.
Analyze the cause and effect of process variances.
Brainstorm possible sources of variation to create a cause-and-effect diagram to help analyze potential sources of variation in the espresso beverage preparation process at Wild Dog Coffee Company or for your selected business’ process. Your diagram must include at least four of the “6 Ms” (that is, management, manpower, method, measurement, machine, materials).
Recommend quality and customer service improvements for a selected process.
Detail the results of your analysis for Wild Dog Coffee Company or your selected business’ process to substantiate your recommendations.
Deliverable Format
Requirements:
The process improvement plan is to be a minimum of 7 pages, not including the title, reference, and appendix pages.
Use a process improvement plan template of your choice.
Related company standards:
The process improvement plan is a professional document and should therefore follow the corresponding MBA Academic and Professional Document Guidelines (available in the MBA Program Resources), including single-spaced paragraphs.
In addition to the title and reference pages, include the following in the appendix:
Flowchart.
Procedure.
Detailed results of order delivery time analysis.
Cause-and-effect diagram.
Use American Society for Quality (ASQ) data analysis tools and 2–3 additional scholarly or academic sources where applicable.
Use APA formatting for citations and references.
