Purpose

Almost every profession these days requires that you possess ‘good people skills’. But what are people skills and how can they be developed? Effective interpersonal behavior will equip you with the knowledge and skills to get more from your interpersonal relationships, whether they be of a personal or professional nature.

Assignment Instructions

This assignment is comprised of three parts. Please read bellow.

Part 1: Managing people – the RACI Chart

This part of the Assignment is connected to the ideas shared in Discussion No. 1 this week. There is a new company that needs quite a bit of technology help as they set up business selling tractor parts. For this week’s Assignment, choose the option below that suits your expertise best:

  • Web: You have been hired to build their website. So far, the team consists of the following people in addition to you (as consultant): an HTML-CSS design expert, a database and PHP expert, and a content expert.
  • Network: You have been hired to develop their office network. So far, the team consists of the following people in addition to you (as consultant): an infrastructure architect, an installation expert, and a software expert.
  • Software: You have been hired to create a program that tracks deliveries. So far, the team consists of the following people in addition to you (as consultant): a programming expert, an interface design expert, and a database administrator.
  • Database: You have been hired to create the company database. So far, the team consists of the following people in addition to you (as consultant): an SQL expert, an interface design expert, and a migration expert.

Assignment Requirements

Part 1: The RACI Chart:

Choose just one of the scenario options above.

  • Provide an appropriate paper subheading.
  • Write an introductory statement to this section before presenting your RACI chart. Do not simply say you “chose scenario no. 3” – write as if the reader is unaware of the Assignment instructions.
  • Develop a RACI chart for the project.
    • Use Excel.
    • Include conditional formatting to color-code R, A, C, and I.
    • Embed (do not link) the Excel chart into your Word document.
    • Level of detail required:
      • There must be at least 12 tasks.
      • Your team must have at least five people – those listed above plus two more. You can get ideas from the discussion board for additional team members.

Ethics and Professionalism Project Assignment
You are to perform research on the subject of ethics and professionalism in accounting and auditing. 
Write a one to two-page single-spaced paper (525-600 words) that discusses the impact that regulations, accounting, and auditing standards have on the ethics of accountants and auditors and how these regulations, accounting, and auditing standards impact how they perform their work. You are to select either one of the following: (1) specific regulation, (2) specific accounting standard (3) specific auditing standard (4) specific professional standard.  An example of a specific professional standard is the AICPA has a Code of Ethics that provides information on ethics.
The paper must have an introduction, body, and conclusion.  Cite your sources in APA format.  The paper must have at least three citations. The citations page does not count towards the one to two-page count.

Why/How Do Slave Narratives Matter?

Watch Unchained Memories: Readings from the Slave Narratives (HBO 2003). 300+ word post in response to the prompt before the deadline.
While you’re watching (and you don’t have to watch all 75-minutes in one sitting), take note of the difference between the individual narratives (delivered by Black actors) and Goldberg’s narration.
Once you’ve viewed the documentary, you need to do a bit of research before. Zora Neale Hurston, a Black novelist and anthropologist, called research “formalized curiosity.”
Go to the website for The 1619 Project and browse its contents–be curious. Notice that in addition to photographs and researched essays, the site includes creative works, such as poems and vignettes. Black writers, including Jacqueline Woodson, were asked to participate in The 1619 Project by choosing a historical event and responding to it as an artist. In her case, she responded not with paint on a canvas but with words on a page. 
The curators of The 1619 Project know that reading a poem about Emmett Till’s murder in 1955 is a different experience than reading a newspaper account–just as listening to the oral narratives in Unchained Memories is a different experience than reading about slavery in a textbook. For your discussion post, I want you to write about that difference, which is another way of saying I want you to write about the ways that literature matters and in this particular case, slave narratives.
If your first impulse is to say that literature doesn’t matter–that photographs, mixed media, commentary, poems, stories–all of it is just information, then you aren’t paying enough attention to your experiences as a viewer/listener. 
For your discussion post, focus on the difference listening to the oral narratives made to you. How was that experience different than listening to Goldberg’s narration? Goldberg’s narration is the equivalent of a chapter in a history textbook or a lecture a professor might give to a history class. The oral narratives, however, are literature. So, what’s the difference? Is the difference important? How so? And why, 403 years after the first slave ships arrived in what would become the United States of America, do these slave narratives still matter? What is the point of listening to them in the year 2022? (Hint: How would the curators of The 1619 Project answer that question?)
Tip #1: The most common mistake students make is neglecting to link their response to the questions posed above to specifics from the documentary. Whatever points you want to make about why and how the slave narratives matter to 21st century readers/listeners should be connected to (illustrated by) the slave narratives you yourself listened to for this activity.
Tip #2: The more you think about your response, the better it will be. The more you discuss your response with others (friends, family, co-workers), the better it will be. Which means … the earlier you start on this assignment, the more you will get out of it. Value your education in order to increase the longterm value of your college degree.

Besides biotechnology, identify one technology that seems to have the greatest potential positive effect on food security. Discuss any potential negative uses of that technology. As addressed in the readings, technology has the potential to both solve global social problems and make them worse. For example, technological devices that can interact with the environment have the potential to reduce world hunger by helping to increase food production in developing countries.
