What are the strengths and weaknesses of the present long-term care system in the United States?

Evolution of Long-Term Care Systems
During the 1800s, and well into the 1900s, families took care of their own members whenever possible. Several generations lived together, with the younger generation taking care of the older and vice versa. Post 1900s, the joint family system started disintegrating.
Interview at least five people of varying ages from different families to know their perspective on disintegration of joint family system. Based on your interview findings and learning from your readings, respond to the following questions:
What factors led to disintegration of the joint family system?
What has been the impact of this disintegration on aging people and long-term care?
Did disintegration have any benefits for health service organizations? Why or why not?
At the same time this shift occurred in the family structure, health care organizations were experiencing continuous changes in their operating styles. The long-term care system took some time to catch up with the changing nature of businesses. In the 1990s and early 2000s, long-term care was seen to experience several turbulent changes, particularly related to its operations, management, and structure. Research the South University Online Library and the Internet to find information on the changes in the long-term care system in the United States and respond to the following questions:
How have the operations, management, and structural changes of the 1990s and early 2000s impacted the long-term care system today?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the present long-term care system in the United States?

Assessment Traits
Assessment Description
Synthesis is the act of creating something new from multiple existing entities. Synthesis of research, then, is creating a new idea from existing ideas. This assignment is designed to help you identify how themes can emerge from reading literature and how you can synthesize this information in a way that creates new knowledge. You will use your understandings of the Topic 2 readings to complete a synthesis worksheet.
General Requirements:
This assignment will be used as a pre-writing activity for the synthesis paper in Topic 5.
Locate and download “Synthesis Worksheet” from the Topic Resources.
Review the articles by Baker & Pifer (2011), Gardner (2009), and Smith & Hatmaker (2014) located in the Topic Resources.
This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. Review the GCU APA Style Guide for Writing located in the Student Success Center.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Class Resources if you need assistance.
Directions:
Complete the Synthesis Worksheet for the articles by Baker & Pifer (2011), Gardner (2009), and Smith & Hatmaker (2014). The completed worksheet will include the following sections:
An Introduction that introduces and provides context for the topic, presents three common themes that emerged from the readings, and provides organization for the paper with a thesis statement.
A description of the evidence to support three common themes that emerged from the articles. Since this is likely your first experience with this depth of synthesis, we have provided two of the themes found in the articles. Your task is to identify a third theme and to provide evidence from each article for all three common themes.
A conclusion where you will return to your thesis and provide evidence showing you successfully addressed your thesis statement. Discuss the connections that you made from the evidence and how each theme emerged from the central topic of doctoral identity.

Critical Thinking Exercise Assignment Instructions
Overview
Critical thinking is an important skill to develop as you seek to become a more skilled consumer of knowledge. While some of what you read in the news or online may be true, most of us approach information such as this with a healthy dose of skepticism. We read it, think about it, consider the source(s) of the information and may even compare different versions before we are willing to accept it as truth. What many students do not realize is that academic sources should also be approached with a degree of skepticism as textbooks and academic journal articles may contain inaccuracies or hidden bias.
As Biblical worldview thinkers it is important to examine everything in light of the truth we know to be ultimately authoritative. If something we read appears to contradict what we know to be true (based on Scripture) we should examine it closely and critically.
The two examples provided below are in our textbook. In both cases, the content would seem to indicate that a position supported by Biblical truth is incorrect. We will examine each idea to determine if the message communicated can hold up to a critical analysis based on empirical evidence and our Christian worldview.

Instructions
For each of the topics listed below you will:

  1. Examine a statement from our textbook in light of scholarly literature, and a Biblical perspective.
  2. Write a brief reaction essay (with a minimum of 500 words) describing your critical analysis and conclusions.
  3. After completing analysis, you will create an APA-formatted document with the title page, your reaction essay, and a reference list identifying any source cited in your essay. You should cite the textbook, the Bible, and any other scholarly source used.
