Provide an example of a disaster and the occupational health consequences of the event. How was it handled? What are your thoughts and recommendations for ways to improve the response? As an example, how can we protect the health of our healthcare providers including EMTs and paramedics who were on the frontlines of dealing with COVID-19? Many providers tested positive throughout the USA; many others were in quarantine, some died from COVID-19 complications and some committed suicide.

Explain Platos Utopian vision for a just society. In your view, what would be some of the beneficial or harmful effects of a society based solely on merit, as Plato proposed? To determine citizens’ aptitudes and talents, Plato favored testing them while they are young. Is it possible to discover the best career for someone this way? What about people who discover or develop their true talents later in life? Is Plato too optimistic about the ease of discovering a person’s true calling? Don’t we reward athletes, doctors, lawyers, and business executives according to their merit and not by democratic vote? Should our leaders be chosen the same way, as Plato suggests? Why or why not?
Read the assigned reading from the chapter. Then choose ONE of the questions below to answer. Answer the question you chose in a response that is a minimum of 1-2 paragraphs.
Be sure to explain your answers and give reasons for your views. You should cite the textbook and use brief quotations and summaries from the textbook in your response. Do NOT use any other sources besides the textbook.

The statement I agreed with is D: Although we cannot ignore the plight of the mother, we also have an obligation to protect the unborn child’s rights. That child cannot fend for itself. Dependency does not make the child less human. Many adults are wholly dependent on others for a wide variety of reasons, and certainly, children, after they are born, are still dependent in the most every way for continued life. I accept the legality of abortion because I have to. That doesn’t make it ethical. However, I am also in favor of sex education and teaching safe sex, which can lead to fewer abortions. I even understand exceptions such as rape, as the act is destructive to the psyche even without a pregnancy. Bringing a child of rape to term could be too much for some to bear, and I value the mother’s quality of life even if I would also mourn the death of an unborn child. There are no easy answers, but I favor the unborn child’s life at every turn, and make exceptions only when I must choose the lesser of two evils.

1.It is very important that educators collaborate with one another because every one has their own tools for their students success. When teachers come together we can share methods that work well. Collaboration benefits students because it creates a success plan for them. Special education teachers work close together with AI’s, Speech therapist, Occupational therapist, Physical Therapist, and others who are involved with a students learning plan. The general education teachers have expertise in the grade-level curriculum, and the special education teachers have expertise in the adaptations and organizational skills for different disabilities of the different students. This was expressed by three different general education teachers, acknowledging that they would benefit from the special education teacher making adaptations for the class and for individual students. (Leatherman, 2009) Teachers have many things in common but often have different tools that they use for their students. When coming together it can create new ideas, and new use of tools.

2. The collaboration between a general education teacher and other school personnel is needed to be successful for every student within the classroom. Collaboration amongst teachers happens when educators work together to create innovative lesson plans, discuss concerns about student achievement or behavior, determine student progress and challenges, and offer collegial support and encouragement in a structured environment (American University, 2023). This type of partnership not only benefits students, but teachers too. When in constant communication, work relationships begin to develop building a sense of trust within one another. When teachers are able to cultivate this type of relationship, student success flourishes within the classroom due to the fact that teachers can put their brains together to the best solution for all of their students’ learning needs (American University, 2023). I experience the benefit of collaboration every day within my classroom since I am an inclusion teacher. I not only have to work with the gen ed teachers, but the special service teachers too to make sure each student is receiving the best education possible for their needs. For example, the general education teachers need to make me aware of their lesson plans each and every day so I can modify and accommodate their lessons or activities to fit my students’ IEPs. This collaboration allows for every student to feel successful within the inclusion setting. This relationship fosters community within our school as we are to support, guide and collectively work together as a team to enhance the overall educational experience for each student.

Culturally responsive teaching and learning require that educators be informed about the importance of supporting linguistically and culturally diverse students. Educators are accountable for instituting equitable instructional practices that ensure all students have the same opportunity at making a marked degree of success in school. Imagine you are an ESL or bilingual specialist in a school that has significantly struggled to meet the needs of diverse students. Some of the more vocal school staff have complained about the growing diversity and expressed negative feelings or frustration. You have been asked to present key principles of culturally responsive teaching to school staff to expand their understanding while recognizing their struggles and concerns. Create a 10-12 slide digital presentation on concepts of culturally responsive education, while considering an audience that may be resistant or even hostile to the information. Using the topic Resources and your own research, include the following in your presentation: Address school staff concerns or resistance by providing a rationale and/or benefits of implementing teaching practices that support diverse students. Compare the major goals, principles, and concepts of the following approaches to teaching and learning that promote equity and diversity for culturally and linguistically diverse students:
