how do you use kinesics and what does that communicate about you?

In our module on NVC, we learned about nonverbal communication and how it interacts with and compliments verbal communication. We also discovered that the majority of the message meaning comes from nonverbal communication. This chapter list and explains 9 types of nonverbal communication; kinesics, haptics, physical appearance, artifacts, proxemics, environmental factors, chronemics, paralanguage and silence. To answer this exploratory question choose five (5) of the nine (9) types and write a paragraph on each explaining what it communicates nonverbally about you. For example how do you use kinesics and what does that communicate about you? Do people sometimes misinterpret what your face and body motions mean? What do your artifacts say about you, if anything? Do you think your gender (gender affiliation/identification) impacts your nonverbal communication or others’ perceptions of your nonverbal communication? Do you think your native culture impacts your nonverbal communication?

Write a 2 page explanation of why it is important to include in a developmental supervision model the domains that Stoltenberg (2008) describes.

Developmental Models of SupervisionAlthough there are many different models of supervision, this week’s Discussion focuses on developmental models because they are perhaps the most widely used supervisory models. Developmental models are uniquely created for supervision and training. Stoltenberg (2008) suggests that a number of domains should be evaluated for supervision, including intervention skills competence, assessment techniques, interpersonal assessment, client conceptualization, theoretical orientation, professional ethics, individual differences, and treatment goals and plans. Each of these domains provides a wealth of important information for a supervisor to assess in his or her supervisee. To prepare for this Discussion, review Stoltenberg’s developmental model of supervision (see Chapter 3 in Falender & Shafranske, 2008b).Write a 2 page explanation of why it is important to include in a developmental supervision model the domains that Stoltenberg (2008) describes. Then, select one domain and fully describe its function or purpose. Finally, explain how you would integrate that domain into your own model of supervision.Be sure to support your post with specific references to the Learning Resources.READINGSBeck, J. S., Sarnat, J. Write a 2 page description of your imaginary shame attack.

Can Shame Attacks Be an Effective Technique? What makes you feel embarrassment? Maybe you hate when a neighbour drops by unexpectedly and sees that your house hasn’t been cleaned recently. Maybe you fear looking silly on the dance floor so you avoid dancing at all costs. Now ask yourself a second question: What would happen if you purposefully exposed yourself to something that caused embarrassment? What if you went to your friend’s wedding and danced in the most ridiculous way you can think of for one song? How might you feel the next time you attempted to dance regularly? Albert Ellis calls this practice purposefully doing something that causes distress, embarrassment, or anxiety a shame attack. The purpose of this technique is to demonstrate that what a person says to himself/herself during the activity will actually lessen the embarrassment. You might have observed in the Week 1 REBT demonstration that Albert Ellis has a humorous and distinctly colourful personal style. Shame attack exercises are one example of various types of homework exercises that Ellis developed to expose clients to distress and embarrassment as a means of overcoming irrational thoughts by disputing those beliefs. They are designed to help the client experience and change her or his beliefs about the emotional consequences of another person’s perceptions. For this Discussion, you are asked to imagine yourself in an embarrassing situation. (You do not have to actually carry out the exercise.) What constitutes a shame attack situation will be different for everyone. You might imagine being in a grocery store and walking a stuffed pet on a stick, or singing on a public bus or train, for example. To prepare: Imagine placing yourself in a situation where the type of shame might be slightly embarrassing. As you conceptualize your situation, consider what fears or irrational thoughts you might have about the situation before it occurred. Then, consider what you might say to yourself to make the event bearable. With these thoughts in mind: Write a 2 page description of your imaginary shame attack. What did you say to yourself to make the exercise bearable? What did you learn from this exercise? Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources. Use proper APA format and citations.

Is the American dream today, as you understand it, really just about attaining wealth?

Week 6, Discussion Board — Is this dystopia (an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one.)?In Sandler, Kamp, and Cooper’s work, we get a sense of the American Dream unraveling.a. Is the American dream today, as you understand it, really just about attaining wealth? Or is that model crumbling due to economic pressures that don’t seem to be easing? How are we faring, given stiff competition in the global world? According to the definition of dystopia above, are we there? Explain.b. What is the lesson of Jay Gatsby’s experience? What did he hope to attain? Was his a rational and attainable dream? Would he ever have fit in with Daisy’s world? What is Fitzgerald getting at, exactly, in this American classic?c. Analyze the character of Daisy’s husband Tom. What is his type? Who is he and who does he want to be? Why does he “win” in the end? What is the author’s message, then?d. The Rolling Stones once claimed, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes… You get what you need…” Is this true of the characters in The Great Gatsby? Did they get what they needed in life? What did each need?e. Finally, select four quotes from The Great Gatsby that you think encapsulate this story’s essence and post them in your discussion board posting. Tell why you selected each one and relate the quote to both the tragedy of Gatsby and to your own connection to the quote. For instance, I might select, “They had forgotten me, but Daisy glanced up (at him) and held out her hand; Gatsby didn’t know me now at all. I looked once more at them and they looked back at me, remotely, possessed by intense life” (96).Here Nick sees Daisy and Gatsby totally engaged with one another. In this moment of emotion, no one else exists for them in this world. I wonder if that is really how love is when it is first uncorked and acknowledged, or if that is just romantic fantasy. The world around them has ceased to exist and they are riding on passion. There is no room left for thought or rational awareness. Love is the drug…

How does federalism differ from unitary government and a confederacy?

How does federalism differ from unitary government and a confederacy? How would politics and policies be different in America if there were a unitary system instead of a federal system? Or a confederation instead of a federal system? Additionally, explain the difference between dual federalism and cooperative federalism. 100 words. NOTES: We generally speak of three forms of governmental structures—federalism, unitary government, and confederation. Federalism is a way of organizing a nation so that two or more levels of government have formal authority over the same area and people.Chapter 3 explores the complex relationships between different levels of government in the United States. It describes the ways that the federal system has changed over two centuries of American government and why American federalism is at the center of important battles over policy.Federalism is not the typical way by which nations organize their governments; there are only 11 countries with federal systems. Most governments in the world today are unitary governments, in which all power resides in the central government. Although American government operates under a federal system at the national level, the states are unitary governments with respect to their local governments. In the United States, local governments are legally “creatures of the states”: they are created by the states and can be changed (or even abolished) by the states. In a confederation, the national government is weak and most or all of the power is in the hands of its components (such as states). The United States was organized as a confederacy after the American Revolution, with the Articles of Confederation as the governing document. Confederations are rare today except in international organizations. The concept of intergovernmental relations refers to the entire set of interactions among national, state, and local governments in a federal system. The American federal system decentralizes our politics. For example, senators are elected as representatives of individual states and not of the nation. Moreover, with more layers of government, more opportunities exist for political participation; there are more points of access government and more opportunities for interests to be heard and to have their demands for public policies satisfied. The federal system not only decentralizes our politics, it also decentralizes our policies. The history of the federal system demonstrates the tensions that exist between the states and the national government about who controls policy and what it should be. Because of the overlapping powers of the two levels of government, most of our public policy debates are also debates about federalism. The American states have always been policy innovators. Most policies that the national government has adopted had their beginnings in the states. In many ways, the states constitute a “national laboratory” to develop and test public policies.
