What role did women play in the Neolithic and Paleolithic worlds? How should we understand gender roles in the prehistoric era?
Respond to TWO of your classmates –VIDEO –PEER RESPONSES 1. What role did women play in the Neolithic and Paleolithic worlds? How should we understand gender roles in the prehistoric era?The Neolithic and Paleolithic ages represent the earliest periods of human history, often referred to as prehistory. Women and men played specific social and economic roles in these prehistoric times. These roles are often closely related to factors such as fertility, reproduction, food gathering and preparation, and social organization. Female Roles in the Neolithic Age During the Neolithic Age, women played multiple key roles, one of which was food gathering and food preparation. Hunting and gathering were one of the main sources of livelihood for Neolithic societies. While men are generally more involved in hunting, women play a vital role in plant gathering, food processing and storage. These tasks play a central role in the household economy, ensuring the stability of the food supply. Additionally, women were responsible for household chores and childbearing in Neolithic societies. They are responsible for the care and upbringing of children and participate in family and social organizations. This division of labor provides the family with stability and the continued development of society. Religion and ritual were also important components of Neolithic society. Women served as priests or celebrants of religious ceremonies in many societies and were more closely connected to the mysterious natural world. They participate in religious ceremonies, celebrations and social gatherings, passing on cultural and religious traditions. Female Characters in the Paleolithic Age Compared with the Neolithic Age, the social structure of the Paleolithic Age was more primitive, and the division of gender roles was blurred. Women were still involved in food gathering and tool making, but the social organization was relatively simple and gender roles were less differentiated. Hunting and gathering remained a key source of livelihood, but with fewer resources, societies were likely to be more egalitarian. The role of women in prehistory differed markedly between the Neolithic and the Paleolithic. Changes in the sexual division of labor and social organization are influenced by environmental, resource availability, and cultural factors. Women’s roles in prehistoric times were complex and diverse, including responsibilities in family and society, as well as religious and cultural inheritance. Gender division of labor plays a vital role in the society of this era, providing a solid foundation for social stability and development.

Then, answer the following questions to effectively critique the article.
What is the topic?
What is the problem statement?
What was the research question of the study you are reviewing? What were the authors trying to discover?
What were the research methodologies? Analyze its literature review, the samples and variables used, the results, and the conclusions. Does the research seem to be complete? Could it have been conducted more soundly? What further questions does it raise?
If there are conflicting studies, why do you think that is?
How are the authors viewed in the field? Has this study been cited?; if so, how has it been analyzed?
Part 2
Based on the material you have reviewed on how to draft a literature review, please do the following:
1) Read the scholarly articles you have selected to support your topic and need for your study.
2) Then, group those articles by the themes they relate too. (see power point for example)
3A) For this assignment, please provide the Sub Headings you will use in your literature review, then 3B) underneath list the articles that will be referenced in those sections.
**A literature review can be drafted many ways, the GOAL however, is for the literature to clearly demonstrate what your topic is about, why its important in your field, and most importantly it defines the gap in knowledge, that YOUR study will seek to fulfill. Your literature review should flow from one article to another showing cohesion among them. I encourage you all to look at template literature reviews for ideas, and guidance on structuring.
Part 3
Please take your Project 1 and add your Literature Review to that. A total of 15 scholarly articles that are relevant to the research topic and problem statement should be included. Articles chosen should demonstrate the gap in literature, supporting the need for your proposed research study. Prepare this assignment in accordance with APA guidelines.

1. For this problem you will fit multi-
exponential decay functions using
MATLABs fminsearch utility. The dataset

of a fit based on your input parameters;
see the Ch.3 of Matlab for the Physical
Scientist for an example for fitting a line.
a. First try fitting a single exponential
decay:
Amplitude = A ? e?t ?? (5 pts)
b. Next, use the variance-covariance method to estimate the errors of your fitted
amplitude and time constant, and report your answers as Amplitude ± and ?
± . Note that much of this is also worked out in Ch. 3 of Matlab for the Physical
Scientist. (5 pts)
FYI here are some additional MATLAB commands for you to know on plotting
data with the optimum fit that you derive using fminsearch:
>> plot(prob1(:,1),prob1(:,2),’b’)
>> hold on
>> plot(prob1(:,1),fit,’k–‘)
>> xlabel(‘Time (s)’)
>> ylabel(‘Amplitude’)
>> set(gca,’TickDir’,’out’);
2. For this question download this
dataset, which is the same from
question one but with a 3rd column that
gives you the size of the error bars.
Next, repeat the analysis of question 1a
using the error bars in the data analysis.
To this end, you have to modify your
calculation function to include the errors
to the data points via:
2~?(
1
2) ? (() ? ())2
=1
Plot the data again using the errorbar function of MATLAB (see code snippet
below) with an overlaying fit to the data. Note that your fitted parameters should
be nearly identical to that from problem 1. (5 pts)
FYI, here is some more MATLAB code for you to make a nice figure for this
dataset:
>> errorbar(prob2(:,1),prob2(:,2),prob2(:,3))
>> xlabel(‘Time (s)’)
>> ylabel(‘Amplitude’)
>> set(gca,’TickDir’,’out’);
b. Now use the errors per data point to calculate and . Please print out
your program and present the results in the form: Amplitude ± and ? ± .
(5 pts)
3. For this problem we will fit a signal
that isnt quite what it appears to be at
first.
a. First download the dataset. Next,
use fminsearch to find the optimal
parameters for a single exponential
decay. Please include a copy of your
program with your optimized amplitude
and time constant and a graph with the
fit. (5 pts)
b. You may have noticed that the fit wasnt so good. As a result, try an
exponential decay with a linear component:
Amplitude = A ? e?t ?1? + B ? t (5 pts)
For both parts please provide a graph with a fit for your answer, the best fit
amplitudes (A&B) and the time constant ?1, and a copy of your programs.
4. a. For this problem, please fit a
Gaussian to this dataset of the intensity
of a UV/Vis spectra peak. The function
is:
Intensity = A ? e?(??0)
2 22?
where you have to calculate the
optimum amplitude A, center
wavelength 0, and sigma (). As usual
please provide a copy of your program
and a graph with the data and your fit.
(5 pts)
b. Use the variance-covariance method to calculate the errors of the three fitted
parameters and report your answer as : Amplitude ± , 0 ± 0, and ± .
Of course provide a copy of your program. (15 pts)
