Start by doing a brief online search of current news in Astronomy related to one of the two categories you have been assigned (planetary news or deep space). Let’s do planetary. Sources can be newspaper articles, magazine articles, or even podcasts. To get you started, I have provided a list of helpful websites in this module. These resources are a good place to start getting familiar with Astronomy news resources.
Select a current (within the last year) news article concerning topics within your assigned category.  You want to read the article thoroughly, to learn what is happening in the current news regarding your topic/field of interest.  As you read, think about whether the article is based on data or other reliable sources, and whether the article can be tied back to concepts learned in class.  You may want to read any extra or supporting material the article references or look up definitions, etc.  If your article covers concepts not learned in class, please provide definitions for these new concepts/terms.
Summarize Article
You will provide two summaries, a short summary for Twitter and the Full Summary
Twitter Summary:
Summarize and reflect on the article in a maximum of 150 characters!  Also provide an appropriate title for your twitter summary.  Your summary/reflection should be clear and concise, giving an overview of the news article in your own words. This summary differs from the Full Summary is that is should be a very  brief snapshot of the most interesting parts of your summary and any connection you personally make with the material and how it links to class!  Tell us why you choose this article, what is just so fascinating you want to share!
*Avoid plagiarism by writing this in your own words and adding your unique insight!
Full Summary:
Summarize and reflect on the article and come up with an appropriate title for your summary.  Your summary/reflection should be clear and concise, giving an overview of the news article in your own words.  The title should be unique and reflect your take on the article (think like a newspaper headline).   Bring in concepts and ideas we have learned in class.  Make sure to tie in at least two clear concepts or ideas that we have learned in class in your summary of your article! This is your chance to tie in what you have learned in the class with what is happening in current astronomy news today.  If the article brings in new concepts we have not covered in class, make sure you define these concepts in a way that we can all understand.  In addition to summarizing the news, reflect on the article: why did you choose it, does it make you excited, feel hopeful, nervous, bring up memories or inspiration, etc….be creative here! Your Full summary/reflection should be about 3 paragraphs in length.
*You are only expected to include concepts from class material taught up to your assigned week (but you are not limited to those concepts of course).  Please never hesitate to ask me for help or guidance!!
*Avoid using quotes in your summary.  (If you do choose to use direct quotes from the article, make sure the quotes are short and very important to your summary.  Also, you must always include the in-text citation for any quoted material or material taken directly from a source other than your own head.
References
You will have at least one reference, the article you summarized and likely your textbook since you are also using material learned from class.  You must include the URL and Author for your article you summarized, using APA 6thEd. format.  Make sure to include in-text citations withinthe article, as well as the citation in the reference/bibliography section, using APA 6thEd. format. (See tabbed page above for guidance on APA format)

Films about food are an excellent way to think critically about the ideas raised so far in this course.

Project 1: Food Film Assignment
Films about food are an excellent way to think critically about the ideas raised so far in this course. Module 1: Edibility and Module 2: Ingredients cover cultural definitions and categorizations of food, food rules, subsistence/food getting strategies, and the commercialization of food at a global level.
I encourage you to select a film that allows you to see these issues from another culture. I will accept films about food in the US, but if you choose the US, I ask that you select a film that recognizes the vast cultural diversity found in the US.
Your film should be a minimum of 60 minutes. It should be contemporary (within the past 20 years).
Your assignment should be 3 pages (minimum) double spaced. A minimum of 750 words (~3 pages double spaced).
Part 1: Assignment
For your Assignment, I ask that you select a total of 3-4 learning objectives from chapter 1-3.  Pick learning objectives that can be addressed using the film. Thus, its best to watch the film first and then pick your objectives.
Your assignment should include:
1.  Introduction: This is a very brief (~4 sentences) summary of the film including its production details such as its release date, where it was made, and the main plot.
2. Objectives: State your objective as a header in your assignment. Then use ~1 page to explore how concepts/ideas/theories from your text can be observed in the film. Please rely on your text and my lectures! I expect you to develop well articulated arguments/statements that demonstrate anthropological ideas using the content in the film.
Grading Rubric:
The assignment is formatting according the instructions and includes all of the necessary sections [3 points]
The assignment is well written, proofread, and contains no grammatical errors [4 points]
The assignment draws on the text to explore topics relevant to the film. The analysis reflects comprehension of the concepts in the text and their appropriate application to the film’s content. This is for each of your objectives. [16 points]
TOTAL POINTS 23
Your assignment should look just like this:
Your Name
Food Film Assignment
Introduction
This is the introduction to my assignment……
Objective 1: Identify the cultural construction of edibility and how food conveys meaning and value.
The concept of culture, defined as……In this film, culture means…..
Objective 2: Locate the Shaping of individual responsibility in dietary practice
[Repeat for other objectives]

discussion post 1
Below are two examples of a self-portrait (a representation of one’s self): one is by the modern Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, and the other is by Wo-Haw, a 19th-century Native American artist. Please respond to the following prompts (at least 200 words):
https://www.fridakahlo.org/self-portrait-along-the-boarder-line.jsp
https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/640401

How do the self-portraits by these two different artists convey that sense of being “caught between two worlds?”  Use specific details in both artworks to illustrate your points.
Do you ever feel like you’re “caught between two worlds,” in some ways? Explain.

discussion post 2
This week we saw some examples of geoglyphs in South America, such as the Nazca lines in modern-day Peru. For this week’s discussion board, please find and post an image of a geoglyph that you think is especially interesting.

Post an image of a geoglyph (either from the readings, powerpoint, etc.)
Where is the geoglyph you chose located, and what type of image is represented?
If you were to create a geoglyph here in Illinois, what kind of shape or form would you create to represent your society and culture today (and why)?

Your post should be roughly 200 words in length. I attached the powerpoint.

short responce
We have been discussing the issue of cultural patrimony (https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/special-topics-art-history/arches-at-risk-cultural-heritage-education-series/trafficking-protection/a/elgin-marbles-debate) as it relates to the African artworks that were stolen/looted during European colonialist expeditions. But how has this played out in regards to Mesoamerican art? In 2020, for example, the Mexican government requested that the Vatican Library temporarily return several Pre-Columbian illuminated manuscripts to mark the painful 500th anniversary of Spain’s conquest of the Aztec Empire — what’s more, they asked for an apology from the Catholic Church “that never again will disrespectful acts be committed against their beliefs and cultures.? read https://hyperallergic.com/598115/mexico-asks-vatican-for-temporary-return-of-ancient-indigenous-manuscripts/, then answer the questions below:

Do you think this could “set a precedent” for other artifacts to be returned to their country of origin, or for similar kinds of attempts for reconciliation? Should it set a precedent, in your opinion?
What kinds of considerations do you think should be taken into consideration when it comes to deciding whether to return artifacts to their country of origin? You may bring up relevant examples from the discussion of African art last week.

Your response should be 300-400 words in length.
Do NOT conduct outside research, do not copy/paste text from an online source, do not use A.I. to generate a response…your answer should come from your own observations and/or the assigned readings/videos, the powerpoint, etc. Cases of suspected plagiarism will be addressed by the instructor.

outline specifically what is your target population and your accessible population? Explain the difference between an accessible and a target population

Step 1 Using your PICO question:

1. outline specifically what is your target population and your accessible population? Explain the difference between an accessible and a target population
2. Explain the difference between an accessible and a target population.
(You may create another PICO question if you what to change what you previously wrote, but answer the same sample question.

Step 2 Read and respond to two other students’ posts

Read other students’ posts and respond to at least two of them. Use your personal experience, if it’s relevant, to support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues professionally and provide examples to support your opinions.

Discusion #1:

PICO Question:

In patients with cardiovascular diseases (P), does regular exercise (I) compared to standard medication ( C), lead to better cardiovascular status (O)?

Target population:

The target population is a patient with cardiovascular disease. This is the group of individuals for whom the research question is designed, and the results are intended to provide insights into the effects of regular exercise on cardiovascular status in this specific population.

Accessible Population:

The accessible population is defined as patients with cardiovascular disease who are currently receiving treatment at a specific hospital. This group represents the subset of the target population that is partially available and willing to participate in the study.
In this study, the accessible population comprises patients with cardiovascular who are actively receiving medical care at the designated hospital. Data will be collected from this accessible population to address the research question about the impact of regular exercise compared to standard medication on cardiovascular status in this specific group of patients.

Discussion #2
In a population specific to mental health illness, are young adults using substances recreationally to mask symptoms of mental health illness in comparisons to those who seek mental health treatment because of the stigma associated to seeking mental health treatment.

Target population

My target population will be young adults between the ages of 12-17.

Difference between an accessible and a target population

According to American Psychological Association (2020), The population criteria establish the target population—that is, the entire set of cases about which the researcher would like to make generalizations. The population criteria determined to the target population reflects on what the researcher wants to learn about. Due to limitations in time, money, and personnel, it is frequently impractical to conduct a study with the intended population. Instead, a different population that meets the same requirements and is easily accessible is used. In order to relieve the barrier of obtaining parental consents and the time it will take to obtain those consents, I can direct my target population to young adults ages 18-25 that use substances recreationally to mask symptoms of mental health illness in comparisons to those who seek mental health treatment because of the stigma associated to seeking mental health treatment.
