How can the behavior on the part of the opposite-gender police partners affect the culture of the patrol unit? Explain.

You are the Commander of the Patrol Division of a medium-sized metropolitan city. You have 33 patrols out on the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift. It is by far the busiest shift for drunk driving, burglaries, domestic calls, and ATM robberies. The esprit de corps is very high. Lately, you have notice that one of the busiest sector units is dropping off in productivity. You ask around and find out that the partners in that car are a veteran officer, a married man, and a single young female rookie.
The rumor among the rest of the unit is that they are more than just professional partners. Last week, the chief called you into his office and asked about the drop in activity for the club sector of the city, where the patrol unit of concern is working. He got you to admit that there may be an unconfirmed problem. The chief told you that he wanted to know the complete situation and that you were to formulate a plan for dealing with the male/female patrol situation and then to come up with ideas to keep this pattern from emerging again in the future. The department currently has no policies about off-duty relationships of partners.
In a report to the chief of police, you will cite the findings of your investigation of the patrol partners concerned. You will provide at least 2 remedies for the situation so that it is discontinued. You will consider the lack of a fraternization policy in the department and suggest the minimum requirements of items that should be in a new policy for the department. You will include and indicate the types of discipline that should be applied to persons violating the new policy in the future.
Assignment Guidelines

Address the following in 2 pages:

How can the behavior on the part of the opposite-gender police partners affect the culture of the patrol unit? Explain.
What dangers could arise in an intimate relationship between partners as it pertains to the daily operations of patrol? Explain.

How can these dangers act as triggers of stress? Be specific.

Articulate at least 3 appropriate policy measures that should be in effect to help alleviate this type of situation.

Fully justify your policy measures with regard to the survival of a traumatic event.

What possible potential stressors could become present if the affair of the two officers reached the public? Explain.

Create a presentation on a current trend in programs or interventions in the criminal justice industry.

Program evaluation is an essential skill with the multitude of new programs from across the country that are designed to support justice-involved individuals as well as fill-in gaps in services in the current system. It is important to be able to analyze evidence that could show whether a program would be effective in your local community with your specific population and their specific needs.
For this assignment, you are the probation officer supervisor and have just attended an industry conference. You have been asked to present what you learned about current trends in programs and interventions with the rest of your department. You will also discuss your personal evaluation of the current trend.

Create a presentation on a current trend in programs or interventions in the criminal justice industry. You may select the trend you would like to present and will need to perform additional research to complete this assignment.
Specifically, your presentation should do the following:

(1 slide) Introduction
(2–4 slides) Identify and describe at least one current trend in programs or interventions.
(2–4 slides) Discuss the purpose and target population for the current trend.
(2–4 slides) Discuss what resources (could be community resources, for example) are needed to implement the current trend.
(2–4 slides) Analyze evidence-based research, statistical data, or recent outcomes that assess the effectiveness of the current trend (the assessment could be good or bad).
(2–4 slides) Analyze how the current trend could be utilized in your local or state area.
(1–2 slides) Discuss your opinion on the current trend and whether you would support its usage in your local or state area.

? There is a “provider culture” that includes the common values, beliefs, and expectations of providers in the health care system. How would you describe the culture of nursing?
? In what ways might nurses project this culture onto their patients and clients?
? How might the culture of nursing conflict with the values and beliefs of patients?

Discussion 1
The healthcare system has a “provider culture” that requires stakeholders to effectively deliver safe and quality care services that meet patients’ needs. This “provider culture” has common values, beliefs, and expectations in healthcare synonymous with value-based care which prioritizes patient-centered care and lower healthcare costs. The culture of nursing has core values, beliefs, and behaviors that inform and make nurses better and more effective. The culture of nursing is spread by nursing scholars, colleagues, professional nursing organizations, and healthcare institutions (Brathwaite, 2019). Some of these cultural values are empathy, compassion, and ethical treatment of patients. It is important to have a culture of nursing to equipand guide nurses with the knowledge and skills to consistently promote health and well-being and provide safe and quality patient care.
There are two main ways that nurses can project this culture of nursing onto their patients and clients. The first way is that nurses should base their performance on the core values which will result in the acquisition of this culture by patients (Burnard & Gill, 2014). For instance, with nurses caring for many patients, they can become desensitized. Therefore, nurses who show a natural tendency of empathy when caring for each patient can spread this value to their patients. The second way is that nurses can educate and teach patients about the core values.Patient education is a key role of a nurse’s job (Burnard & Gill, 2014). Nurses should take advantage of any suitable opportunity with a patient to teach them the importance of the core values. Patients equipped with this knowledge can make changes and adopt these values.
The culture of nursing can conflict with the values and beliefs of individual patients. In healthcare settings, cultural conflicts may arise between nurses and patients because nurses are trans-cultural personnel whereas patients have their own cultures(Brathwaite, 2019). For instance, I once had a patient who had certain religious beliefs that she refused to take potentially life-saving medications. I struggled to understand these beliefs and disagreed with the patient’s decision to decline the medication. I was guided by my nursing leader to approach the patient with cultural relativism and sensitivity to develop an amicable solution that addresses the patient’s needs.

Discussion 2
Culture is shaped by values, beliefs, norms, and practices that are shared by members of the same cultural group (Giger & Haddad, 2021). Nursing is a unique profession which covers professionals working in different settings and performing wide ranging tasks, but there are certain unifying values that provide guidance and basis for our work. Culture of nursing is the one that focuses on providing evidence-based patient centered care and that of collaboration with other members of the healthcare team to improve health outcomes for our patients.
Nurses are uniquely positioned to serve as a bridge between patients and other members of the healthcare team in a healthcare setting and can serve as advocates on behalf of patients to enhance their healing process. This is one of the many ways nurses can project their culture onto their patients. Either working in a hospital or in a community setting, nurses can use their privileges to connect patients to available resources in the community to improve quality of life and long-term health outcomes.
Our culture as nurses is grounded on providing patient centered care based on evidence. Our interventions are determined based on a thorough assessment and in collaboration with other members of the team involved in caring for the patient. A large portion of our work as nurses is devoted at implementing interventions aimed at health promotion and reduction of risks. My workplace recently started offering seasonal flu vaccines to all our patients. I offered this to one of our elderly patients last week and he adamantly denied it based on his personal preferences. I provided evidence-based information as applicable and stressed the importance of timely immunizations to prevent illness, but patient was ‘hard no’. This was a one recent situation where culture of nursing of health promotion conflicted with patients’ beliefs and values.

Is there a risk that the Supreme Court’s decision could limit the ability of rappers, songwriters, and poets to express themselves in stark terms?

First, review the Technology & Criminal Justice vignette called Posting on Social Media: Distinguishing Threats from Free Expression in Chapter 4 Section 4-2 of the textbook.
Is there a risk that the Supreme Court’s decision could limit the ability of rappers, songwriters, and poets to express themselves in stark terms? Is the risk of harm different, either greater or reduced, because any threat-like statements are announced to a broader audience than are traditional criminal threats sent to an individual?
Create a test that could be used to distinguish actual criminal threats from creative expression. Then, provide two examples of expressions that you believe show sufficient intent to justify a criminal conviction for making threats, and provide two examples that could be considered creative expression.

Explain the characteristics and complexities associated with assessment and treatment of co-occurring disorders.

Explain the characteristics and complexities associated with assessment and treatment of co-occurring disorders.
Describe challenges associated with the case of Elena.
If you were creating a 30-day treatment plan for Elena, identify two short-term goals based on challenges that Elena is facing. Include an action step that you would include in her treatment plan.
Post your completed Treatment Plan.

Elena is a 44-year-old hearing-impaired Latina female who was admitted to the inpatient treatment facility for alcohol dependence where you are a counselor working with people with addictions. During her admission, Elena expressed reluctance to undergo treatment, stating that her family did not approve of counseling or psychiatric services because they see it as a sign of weakness. During her admission, she began crying and had difficulty stopping. She stated that her husband left her and that her two teenage children were home alone. Elena was inebriated, under emotional distress, and ended up being carried to her assigned room by two staff members.
Your psychosocial intake assessment revealed Elena is also manifesting signs and symptoms of a major depressive disorder. You know that Elena needs help with her alcohol addiction, but you also know that her depression might be a cause or an effect of alcoholism.
Addressing the needs of diverse populations and co-occurring disorders can be a challenging aspect of addiction counseling. This week, you evaluate strategies for addressing the complexities of co-occurring disorders, also known as co-morbid disorders, and you create a 30-day addiction treatment plan for Elena as presented in the case study above.

× How can I help you?
