Maturational Theory

Nature Approach.
Explains a child’s development through genetics and biological changes.
Arnold Gesell’s theory included the idea that all development is governed by internal changes and explained development by age, called milestones, which children achieved at set points in their lives.

Psychoanalytic and Psychosocial Theory

Child behavior and development are governed by the unconscious processes of mainly social and emotional development.
Sigmund Freud believed that children behaved according to inner conflicts and originated the Psychoanalytic Theory, which says that a child’s personality is formed by how they resolve these inner conflicts.
Erik Erikson originated the Psychosocial Theory also believed that children learn by accomplishing certain inner conflicts. His theory is described as the Eight Stages of Man. The first four deal specifically with early childhood.
Trust versus      Mistrust — ages birth through one year
Autonomy versus      Shame and Doubt — ages 1-3 years
Initiative      versus Guilt — ages 3-5 years
Industry versus      Inferiority — ages 6-12 years

Cognitive-Developmental Theory

Nurture approach.
Constructivism believes that children learn and develop through actively exploring their environment.
Developmentally      Appropriate Practice (DAP) relies heavily on this theory.
Jean Piaget believed that children progress through four stages of intellectual (cognitive)      development.
Sensorimotor –      ages birth through 2 years
Preoperational      – ages 2-7 years
Concrete      Operational – ages 7-11 years
Formal      Operational – ages 11-15 years
Lev Vygotsky believed that social interactions also played a very active role in how children learned. With this, he also shared the importance of language and speech in a child’s development and learning.
Zone of Proximal Development- children go through identified zones of development that are used to identify the child’s next step or growth area
Scaffolding –  adults will assess the child’s ability level and then intentionally plan      and guide with the goal of supporting the child’s growth to the next level of ability
Maria Montessori believed that there are differences in how all children learn and that every child has great potential. She believed that through self-exploration the child will thrive, though it is up to educators and parents to provide the opportunities for this self-discovery.

Behaviorism and Social-Learning Theory

Nurture      Approach.
Development is based upon learned behaviors that are based upon a child’s interactions with their environment and influenced by positive or negative reinforcement.
John Watson and B.F. Skinner introduced this theory and felt that children learned through a system of stimulus/response events.

Bio-ecological Theory

Urie Bronfenbrenner felt that environment shaped children’s development and occurs on multiple layers, through the bio-ecological model.
Belief that development is affected by the environment which is thus constantly changing and redirecting development.
Anti-bias curriculum and many individualized assessment procedures have been greatly influenced by this theory.

Remember that theories are developed over time, and often will reflect the belief systems and values common to that society and time in history. Theories often will adjust when new scientific knowledge is gained, as in the understanding of how the brain develops. Recognizing the varying theories of child development will support the early childhood educator’s foundation of knowledge to ensure children’s needs are met in the environment and planned interactions.

Respond to your classmates after you have completed your Reading.IT190: Information Technology Concepts CLASSMATE POST #3As we began the last unit I noticed that I was starting to see the issues with my computer speed.  Given that the laptop is now five years old it makes sense that I would have issues with CPU speed.  I searched for a replacement for my Intel i5 4200U dual core with a base clock speed of 1.60 GHz (CPUBenchmark, n.d.).  It has a 3MB cache and the bus speed is 5 GT/s DMI 2.0.  The cost of the CPU is $281 currently.  I would prefer to more than double the cores and increase the speed a tad as I am not a heavy user but do not want latency while working.I looked into three Intel processors for comparison; the i5 8265U, the i7 8665U, and the i7 9850H (CPUBenchmark, n.d.).  The first two, i5 8265U and i7 8665U, come with quad cores and the i7 9850H has six cores.  The clock speed differs throughout the three.  The 8265U is at 1.6 GHz, the 8665U is at 1.9 GHz, and the 9850H is at 2.6 GHz.  The cache size is increases as they go up in model numbers.  The 8265U has 6 MB while the 8665U has 8 MB and the 9850H has 12 MB.  The bus speeds are similar for the 8265U and 8665U both running at 4 GT/s OPI which is DMI 3.0 and is a step up from my last processor.  The 9850H runs at 8 GT/s DMI and is also 3.0.  Surprisingly the cost jumps up and down as we go up in model number.  The 8265U is $297, the 8665U is $409, and the 9850H is $395.I would choose the i7 9850H for a number of reasons.  It has more than double the cores and the bus speed is over also.  I also feel like the price point isn’t that bad considering its right there with the 8665U.  I’m interested in staying with a laptop so I can go back and forth.  I would like it to last the next five years.  Only difference is this time I will be using this one more often and perhaps for more intensive things with school. The clock speed for the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X is 3.6 GHz, the Intel Core i9-9900K is 3.6 GHz, the Intel Core i5-9400F is 2.90 GHz and the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 is 3.2 GHz. The cache size for the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X has 32 MB, the Intel Core i9-9900K has 16 MB, the Intel Core i5-9400F has 9MB and the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 has 16 MB. The CPU that I would choose would be the Intel Core i9-9900K. I would choose this CPU because from what I have read, it seems to be on the higher end of the CPU’s. The features are more up to date and faster which is something that I need. I don’t want to have to wait on the CPU to have to think about what it wants to do and when it wants to do it. This CPU is the most expensive out of the four that I chose to discuss, however, if it were to do the job that I needed to be done properly, I would not mind paying the price to have the quality that I am looking for in a CPU.

Introduction     Is transparency the great equalizer? Our current government for one claim to be the most transparent administration ever.  The common argument involves whether full transparency is achievable without a self-service motivation behind it.  This discussion will explore the role of transparency in markets and the impacts on society.  The following areas will be discussed: (1) current trends, and (2) future research.
Current Trends      The concept of transparency and its impacts on society has been researched on numerous occasions.  Political figures, businesses, and governments tout their policies or financial decisions to their stakeholders as a sign of them being fully transparent in their dealings.  Edwards (2020) discusses transparency and its relationship with publicity as an underlining thought behind the concept of full transparency.  He further defines transparency and publicity in this way.  Transparency is generally associated with those who lead or govern and is used as a way to assign accountability to their actions.  Whereas publicity is a self-service act which is done to sway public opinion towards an idea or concept that is beneficial to the benefactor.  The current trend in discussing these two concepts is a term called promotional publicity which combines the idea that businesses are social actors, and they have a responsibility to respond to the market and society’s many demands for transparency.  The act of being transparent is supposed to be a formal nod towards certain moral and regulatory standards which will counter corruption while protecting citizens.      So, can you really quantity transparency and its impact on the markets and society?  My argument is that you can see the results (i.e., quantify them) of an organizations transparency decisions.  In Kempeneer’s (2021) research, it tries to do this very thing by evaluating the 2008 financial crisis as a case study.  The intent of this study was to determine how the use of big data played a role in making several wrong financial decisions.  Oftentimes data is presented to support transparency but if the benefactors mistrust the decisions or the process in formulating the data transparency will not be achieved.  Therefore, transparency can only be achieved through the confidence of the benefactor in the person or group presenting the data and not just based on self-service motivations.  Zook and Spangler (2023) supports my assertion that most benefactors accept big data when they trust the specific procedures that produces the outcome.Governments also play a vital role in determining how transparency impacts the markets and society.  Throughout this discussion, the concept of self-service has been presented to explain the motivations behind a benefactor’s use of transparency in their decisions.  In reviewing Marques et. al.’s (2021) study it supports my argument that transparency or an institutional void in transparency can impact the market and society.  This study examined the repercussions of a lack of transparency within the Brazilian economy that allowed unfair working conditions at the ground level to occur.  Since Brazil is an emerging economy, workers are not privy to numerous information streams (i.e., legitimate governmental regulations, social media, etc.) or regulatory guidance that allows them to combat faulty data masquerading as transparency efforts.  However, Brazil is not the only Government that touts transparency in their policy decisions.  Velut’s (2021) research examined transparency efforts in US trade policymaking.  A review of this study shows that during Barack Obama presidency (2009-2016), which claimed to be the most transparent ever, literally failed when it came to being transparent with their trade policy decisions.  As a result, US markets were negatively impacted by the constrained decisions made by the Obama administration.
Future Research     Based on my research, the role of transparencies in the market and on society is critical to stabilizing financial decisions made by business and individual benefactors.  The role of transparency in today’s markets and society is also a complex question.  Future research on the impacts of transparency is numerous in nature.  Edwards (2020) seeks further research that involves examining the compromises that a business or government makes in their own transparency decisions and whether they are self-serving.  Kempeneer’s (2021) believes that additional research in the areas of relational transparency would benefit society.  To combat institutional voids, Marques et. al. (2021) study supports the need for more research on the impacts of how transparency is influenced by governmental legislation.  This is in-line with Marques et. al.’s (2021) study which questions whether the current crisis in US trade policy will lead to more demands by US markets and society to be more transparent in future policy decisions.  Lastly, Zook and Spangler (2023) suggests that future efforts should focus not just on transparency practices but should also explore the organizational decisions-making process behind their independent decisions.

Ouch. Influence and leadership skills are essential in order to get things done and get them done well. To me, managers manage things and leaders lead people.
