Comm 101 homework 2 | English homework help

homework 2: verbal & nonverbal communication
based on chapters 6 & 7: communicating verbally & nonverbally
40 points possible

purpose:
— to apply important concepts from chapters 6 & 7 to your own experience
— to reflect on the impact of (non)verbal communication in your personal relationships
— to recognize the various components that comprise (non)verbal communication

directions:
For this assignment you will be reflecting on pertinent examples of your own verbal and nonverbal communication. For instance, you will be sharing your experiences with personal idioms, and how words affect your thoughts. You should also reflect on a time when your nonverbal signals/codes conveyed something you did not intend to share. For instance, think of a time when somebody was upset with you based on the nonverbal communication you used, or when you consciously controlled your nonverbal cues to avoid an argument. Share your insights by answering questions 1 through 5 below.

important:
In your responses, make sure that you mention, by name and in the correct context, relevant concepts from chapters 6 & 7. Your answers MUST INCLUDE the following five terms:
(1)denotative meaning,
(2) connotative meaning,
(3 & 4) haptics, vocalics, proxemics, kinesics (pick any two of these codes), and
(5) affect display

1. Think of a specific close relationship for this question (e.g., your family, a friendship or group of friends, a romantic partner). Reflect on the personal idioms you have developed within this relationship. Then:
          a. Briefly explain a few of your personal idioms (so, more than one!). What are                  they, what do they mean, and how did they develop?
b. After reflecting on the use of idioms in this particular relationship, what                 conclusions can you draw about the association between idioms and                intimacy?

2. Carefully review the ‘Shaping Thought’ section on pp. 184-186 in our textbook. After reading, provide one detailed example of a way that a word or phrase (or lack of word or phrase) has shaped the way you think about something or someone.

3. Think of a time when you violated a nonverbal code (i.e., you did something that was “outside the norm” in a given situation or relationship):
          a. What was the situation, and which code did you violate?
          b. What was the interpersonal outcome of your nonverbal behavior?

4. Think of a time when you purposely changed your nonverbal cues to fit a situation:
          a. What was the situation?
          b. What nonverbal code did you change, and why?
          c. What was the interpersonal outcome of this change in behavior?

5. Think of the artifacts in your backpack, purse, or room. If somebody did not know you and took a look at what you had, what would they think about you, and why?

Note: Only 100 words are enough for each question..

UCI Strange to Familiar Field Notes Paper

Cultures around the world have different ways to break up the bodily senses into different groups beyond the basic 5 that many U.S.-raised students learned in kindergarten: taste, smell, touch, vision, and hearing. Of course, many of you are not going to have much in the taste/smell category, but that is okay, you still probably covered 5 or more senses, even if they aren’t so easily distinguishable. For example, if you describe how sparsely a building is decorated, that would be a sort of “spatial” sense different from the “artistic” sense of describing what clothing people are wearing. If you did describe taste, there are many different senses involved in that, such as the “strength” of the taste,  the “texture,”the “fullness,” the “saltiness/sweetness,” etc. Also the “temperature” of the room could be a different sense than the “tangibility” of cloth against one’s skin. And I haven’t even mentioned all the metaphysical senses such as the sense of “tension” in the room, or the “spiritual” sense of an otherworldly power. That’s 10 senses right there!I just want you to start thinking with more aspects of your body than simply your eyes and ears. If you only used your eyes and ears, you might as well just watch a film about an experience rather than having your body BE INSIDE the experience. So the more effort your field notes show towards getting data that you could not get from watching a film, the more points you will get on the sensorium rubric item even if you don’t have exactly 5 discernibly different senses, or all 5 “kindergarten” senses.              As soon as possible after you experience the encounter you proposed in the previous assignment ( Field Notes Proposal Assignment you wrote for me last time) where in you something new, take some quality time to write thorough field notes about your experience. What did your brain understand? What did your body understand? What did you see, feel, touch, smell, hear, taste, and intuit? Write as many field notes as you can, but at least write 1,250 words. Do not worry about grammar or intelligibility. Just write!              Turn in a 1,500 word paper. A full 1,250 of these words should simply be an excerpt of your field notes (or your entire field notes if you only wrote 1,250 words). In the last 250 words, 1) answer your research question, or—if you realized that question really was not important—write what the real question should have been, and try answering it. Also answer the following questions: 2) What did you learn from this experience about how ethnographic fieldwork can make what was once strange to you seem more understandable? And 3) How will this experience help you see something from your everyday, familiar life in a different way?

Fin 100 week 8 please read the description

Week 8
1.      Record the current price of the stock for each company you selected in Week 3’s Stock Journal. You may use any price during this week (e.g., day one price, the opening, the low, the high, the close, or any price you find when you check it during the day).
2.      Determine the current value of your total investment. Do not make any changes to your investment at this time. Calculate your total based on the number of shares and the new price per share, for each company.
3.      Provide your opinion / assessment of your investments. Evaluate the results of your current investment. Are you happy with the result and the trend? Are you upset because you’re investment is worth less than $25,000. Feel free to speculate / guess at why you believe the stock increased, decreased, or remained static.

Please use the information below from week 3 to answer the 3 questions above:
Q.1      Indicate the companies you are investing in:
The three main companies which I will invest my money is as follows: Conifer Holding, Inc, E-Compass Acquisition, and Houlihan Lokey, Inc.
Q.2      Indicate the amount you are investing in each company
I will invest $12,000 in Houlihan Lokey, Inc., $7,000 in Conifer Holding, and $6,000 in Inc, E-Compass Acquisition. The main reason for investing $12,000 in Houlihan Lokey is simply because it is one of the leading global independent investment bank with expertise in financial advisory services, financial restructuring, and those who are specialized in mergers and acquisitions. In addition to this, Houlihan Lokey, Inc serves clients from diverse backgrounds from the United States of America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Furthermore, Houlihan Lokey, Inc has a platform whereby are provided with differentiated and meaningful advice (http://www.nasdaq.com)
On the other hand, I will invest my $7,000 in Conifer Holding because through her this insurance company targets profitable classes of policyholders that are underserved byother insurers. Conifer Holding sells her insurance products through her 4,500 independent agents, and in addition to this, it has 2,200 sales offices in 44 different. Lastly, I will invest my 6,000 in Inc, E-Compass Acquisition because its aim is to enter into asset acquisition or merger share exchange thus it might take very long for me to get significant gain from my investment (http://www.nasdaq.com)
Q.3      Indicate the number of shares you are buying, and the price of shares you are buying for each company.
Houlihan Lokey, Inc., price per share is $21. Therefore it will be $12,000/$21 and it will be 571.43: thus I will buy 571 shares
Conifer Holding price per share is $10.50. Therefore it will be $7,000/$10.50 and it will be 666.67: Thus I will buy 667 shares.

Inc, E-Compass Acquisition price per share is $10.00. Therefore it will be $6,000/$10.00 and it will be 600 shares.

Assignment 2.1: Justification Report – Part 1
Due Week 3 and worth 150 points
In Assignments 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3, you will be building up a formal, researched justification report (one part at a time) that culminates in a recommendation to implement a particular product, service, or program in your place of employment. This recommended product, service, or program should resolve a problem that you identify in your workplace and should be directed to your employer (even if you do not actually plan to share it with your employer).
Use the basic outline below to draft Assignment 2. Organize your responses to each question under the following section headings:

Problem Statement (for Question 1)
Overview of Alternatives (for Question 2)
Criteria (for Question 3)
Methods (for Question 4)

Using the provided template, write Part 1 of a single-spaced report in which you:

Discuss in detail a problem at work, persuading and convincing the reader that it needs fixing.
Provide a detailed description of two (2) possible solutions (“alternatives”) that could be implemented to resolve the problem identified in Question 1.
List and detail five (5) criteria that you will use to measure the worth of each alternative in Question 2. Note: The alternative that satisfies the most criteria to the highest degree will be the one you recommend later to your employer (in Assignment 2.3). Criteria are standards that the audience values and are therefore used to measure the worth of each alternative (common examples include cost, desirability, durability, efficiency, time it will take to implement, and practicality).
Describe in detail how you will conduct the research needed to determine the best alternative to recommend to your employer. Note: This is a one to two (1-2) paragraph description of what research needs to be completed in order to evaluate the alternatives. This is not a detailed procedure for solving the problem.

Your assignment must:

Be typed, single spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Directions: Read the brief description of the IDEA procedural safeguard presented below. Then respond to the scenario presented after the description.
IDEA Procedural Safeguard # 1 Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) Description: According to the Individual’s with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), all children are afforded the right to a free and appropriate public education. This means, that irrespective of a student’s education needs, under the law (i.e., IDEA), they are afforded the right to access a free and appropriate public education. At times, the extent of a student’s educational needs may extend outside of the range of educational services that their school district offers (e.g., students who may require a therapeutic day school placement but their school district may not have a therapeutic day school within the district). In this case, the school district would still responsible for meeting the educational needs of the students even if the student required an educational placement outside of their home school district. Visit FAPE online at http://www.fape.org/ for more information regarding this procedural safeguard.
Scenario: Michael has been referred for special education services after teachers and his parents had tried several problem-solving efforts within his current school and classroom to help meet his education needs. Results from Michael’s full case study evaluation suggest that he possesses behaviors consist with an emotional disability and requires special education services for more than 50% of his school day in order to help meet his educational needs. Michael’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) team decides that he requires a therapeutic day placement in order to meet his educational needs.  An administrator within Michael’s home school district states that the school district does not offer a therapeutic day placement option for students and Michael must attend a placement outside of the county.  This placement will cost over $5,000 per year, but the school has stated they can only pay $3,000 for an out of district therapeutic day placement.
Based on what you have learned about FAPE, explain why or why not this is an acceptable solution for Michael.

PCC Reducing Stress Lab Write Up

Part 1: Personal ExperienceDescribe how you personally felt after going through your chosen treatment. Did you experience a reduction in stress? How do you know? How long did the effects last?Studies show that stress reduction benefits increase with regular use. How likely are you to continue with either practicing mindfulness meditation or limiting social media use on your own? What are the potential benefits? What could be the challenges of continuing this routine?Do you think the other stress reduction treatment (the one you did not personally do) would work better or worse for you, compared to the treatment you chose? Why?Part 2: Experiment ConclusionsCopy and paste the graph you created here (from the Module for Week 4.3 Lab:  “Reducing Stress? Data Analysis”).Summarize the results of your data analysis as seen in your graph. Did mindfulness practice reduce stress? Did limiting social media use reduce stress? Which one was more effective? Be sure to include specific values from your analysis.Using at least one source, write a short paragraph about how the stress response might be altered by either mindfulness meditation or limiting social media use (you may pick either). Be sure to describe the physiological basis of the response – what is physically happening in the body? To help you think about physiological changes, remember the measurements you took in class when you were doing the mindfulness meditation and what changes you noticed were occurring. Be sure that the source is credible source, and include both an in-text citation and a full citation in your works cited.Did the results of our experiment agree with your explanation from question #3? Why do you think this might have been the case?It may be helpful to review your notes from Lesson – Nervous System and the Stress Pathway to integrate relevant physiology information into your discussion.Part 3: Experimental Design CritiqueThe goal of this research study is to understand how effectively mindfulness meditation and/or limiting social media use reduce stress levels. An important part of any research study is assessing the significance of the results — How much of these results can be generalized?Name at least one variable that we did not control for while conducting this experiment (i.e., a variable that we did not measure). Explain what it was and how it could have affected the results.Identify at least 2 potential limitations of this experiment, considering factors such as the duration of the study, sample size, use of controls, demographics of participants, and measurement protocol. Explain how each of these limitations might affect the interpretation and generalizability of the results. (You may find it helpful to review the Evaluating Experimental Design and Scientific Claims page  as you write this response.)If you were to conduct another study to test this hypothesis, how could you improve the study design? Explain at least two changes that you would make and why they would improve the quality of this study from a scientific perspective. What new question(s) do you have based on your findings from this class experiment? Explain. You must list at least one new question.

NUR 3846 RU Addressing Childhood Obesity PICOT Statement

Create a 3-5-page submission in which you develop a PICO(T) question for a specific care issue and evaluate the evidence you locate, which could help to answer the question.PICO(T) is an acronym that helps researchers and practitioners define aspects of a potential study or investigation. It stands for:The end goal of applying PICO(T) is to develop a question that can help guide the search for evidence (Boswell & Cannon, 2015). From this perspective, a PICO(T) question can be a valuable starting point for nurses who are starting to apply an evidence-based model or EBPs. By taking the time to precisely define the areas in which the nurse will be looking for evidence, searches become more efficient and effective. Essentially, by precisely defining the types of evidence within specific areas, the nurse will be more likely to discover relevant and useful evidence during their search.By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:Boswell, C., & Cannon, S. (2015). Introduction to nursing research. Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning. As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, you will be responsible for locating and identifying credible and scholarly resources to incorporate the best available evidence for the purposes of enhancing clinical reasoning and judgement skills. When reliable and relevant evidence-based findings are utilized, patients, health care systems, and nursing practice outcomes are positively impacted.PICO(T) is a framework that can help you structure your definition of the issue, potential approach that you are going to use, and your predictions related the issue. Word choice is important in the PICO(T) process because different word choices for similar concepts will lead you toward different existing evidence and research studies that would help inform the development of your initial question. For this assessment, please use an issue of interest from your current or past nursing practice. If you do not have an issue of interest from your personal nursing practice, then review the optional Case Studies presented in the resources and select one of those as the basis for your assessment. For this assessment, select an issue of interest an apply the PICO(T) process to define the question and research it.Your initial goal is to define the population, intervention, comparison, and outcome. In some cases, a time frame is relevant and you should include that as well, when writing a question you can research related to your issue of interest. After you define your question, research it, and organize your initial findings, select the two sources of evidence that seem the most relevant to your question and analyze them in more depth. Specifically, interpret each source’s specific findings and best practices related to your issues, as well explain how the evidence would help you plan and make decisions related to your question. If you need some structure to organize your initial thoughts and research, the Blank PICO Worksheet document (accessible from CQ University Australia’s Evidence Based Practice page) might be helpful. In your submission, make sure you address the following grading criteria:
