IU Communications Visual Aids Assist the Speaker Discussion

Using Presentation Aids to Enhance Your Speech BACKGROUNDPresentations are used for a variety of purposes. Most often, they are used to inform, teach, report, advertise, persuade, or inspire audience. Depending to the purpose of a presentation, its content, structure, and design may differ.Purpose of informative presentations is to inform about events or demonstrate some products, services, or product functions. While teaching presentations demonstrate how to do certain things: operate a device/tool or implement new process. Reporting presentations, on the other hand, convey status report of a project or process.Other common types of presentation in a business field are those that advertise, persuade, or inspire audience. Presentations focused on advertising target sales of products of services; persuasive presentations engage auditorium in decision making, while inspiring presentations engage into problem solving. When type and purpose of presentation are selected, presentation slides need to be designed with that purpose in mind. Slide design approach known as assertion-evidence (AE), is often used in the professional field. What is AE approach? Alley (n.d.) provides a clear outline of what AE approach is:This approach will help you to create better understood presentations, as evidenced by tests of audience comprehension. In addition, the approach will make your presentations more focused and help you to project more confidence. In the assertion-evidence approach, you build your talk on messages (not topics) to tell a coherent and compelling story about your work. Those messages you then support with visual evidence (not bullet lists). In addition, you engage the audience by fashioning sentences on the spot, but after practice.Presentations often contain visual elements that help to communicate a message or idea with less words. Those different visual elements are called presentation aids. Presentation aids include but are not limited to images/photographs, charts, tables, graphs, videos, audios, and special visual effects like animation. Before you proceed with this assignment, please review the following videos that give excellent information about how to use other types of aids during your speech:Video #1: Using Visual Aid Part 1Video #2: Using Visual Aid Part 2Alle, M. University of Prince Edward Island Child Abuse and Family Violence Paper

Explore the vignette and identify the type(s) of abuse, indicators of abuse, possible cause(s) of the abuse, the possible long-term effects of abuse, and the appropriate fashion in which this case should be handled by a mandated reporter. This should be 4 to 5 pages long and have a cover page, abstract, and reference page, which do not count towards the 4 to 5 pages. Use your text to properly reference all key terms and ideas related to your case investigation. It should be in APA format, so see the guide uploaded under course materials for assistance. Vignette: Jasmine is a 14-year-old African American girl in the 9th grade. She lives at home with her mother and has no contact or information on the identity and whereabouts of her father. Her mother dates frequently and Jasmine has been exposed to several men. Jasmine is having some difficulty with school work and it may be because she is frequently tardy for school and sleepy or sluggish when she arrives. She and her mother argue and even physically fight at home, which has made it difficult for her to keep up with her schoolwork. When she was younger she and her mother got along very well, but once Jasmine started middle school, she became moody and her mother’s current boyfriend moved into the home. Jasmine does not care for him either. She feels that he is very controlling and is constantly trying to tell her what to do. This has particularly caused a problem lately because Jasmine has her first boyfriend, Davian. Davian is one of the more social guys at her high school. He is in the 10th grade, but he has been retained twice so he is 17 years old. He is constantly surrounded by his peers, particularly other girls. Davian is used to getting his way and can be somewhat forceful in their relationship. Teachers have talked to him on several occasions about being too aggressive with Jasmine (ie., grabbing her in the halfway or yelling at her when he is angry). Jasmine is tired her issues at home and school, but sometimes her relationship stresses her out too. She feels the need to be a “ride or die chick” for Davian, but she sometimes wants to talk to the school guidance counselor about all the issues she experiences with him.

DES 105 Independence University Consistency Counts Paper

Week 3 Discussion – Consistency CountsLearning Objectives CoveredLast week we discussed the importance of consistency in typography. This supported the CRAP (contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity) principle of repetition and alignment while creating a cohesive look in the overall design.Line is the most fundamental of all of the elements. It is the way that we begin most designs when pen meets paper. Lines can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal. They can be curved, straight or zigzagged. A line can also be implied by aligning shapes in a row.Texture adds dimension to artwork by bringing a representation of something tactile into play. Everything has a texture. We might describe the texture as smooth or rough, shiny or matt, fuzzy or silky. Designers utilize different textures to create interest in a composition. Utilizing two very different textures is a great way to bring contrast into a piece.Color is also an element that designers use to create focus and generate moods. Color is produced when light reflects off an object or surface. In graphic design, color is used to support an intended message. For example, bright colors suggest happy, or positive feelings, while drab dark colors lean toward something serious in nature.Value works hand in hand with color. Value is the overall darkness or lightness of an element. Value is used to create contrast within a composition. Without changes in value, individual pieces of a composition could not be seen.As you can see, all of the elements of design work together. Most of the time implementation of one element isn’t possible without at least addressing one of the others as well.PromptFor today’s discussion, visit the website HowToPostPhotos.mp4Play media comment.Discuss your evaluation of the menu. If there should have been more design elements – which would you have added? Where and how? If you feel the elements were used appropriately, describe which elements were used and how they added to the unity of the overall appearance of the menu. For your citation, you might use articles that explain examples of good layout practices. You can also find articles from experts that describe the elements that you have found and their overall purpose. For your reply posts, revisit the CRAP principles – contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity. Address how the elements utilized within the examples create or diminish the CRAP principles. If the CRAP principles are weak, what elements might make them stronger?

Bad news memo final draft

Bad News Memo – The Problem and Your Solution
This assignment is intended to give you some insight into how you would begin to solve a particular issue in your professional field.  This knowledge will be useful to you in job interviews, in considering career options, and in other professional applications.  The work you do on this memo will continue to prepare you for choosing a topic for your final problem/solution proposal, and you’ll be able to start considering the larger picture of your intended profession.
From your Issues Memo, you have researched different problems that currently plague your intended profession. I want you to narrow down your focus for this next assignment and think about how you would handle a specific problem within the workplace.
Task

Identify the problem (please make it something manageable – do not choose a problem that has absolutely no solution or would take the power of Congress to help solve) and consider how you would deliver the message to employees and volunteers of your workplace.
For example, if you are looking into the problem of patient complaints and law suits, due primarily to impersonal nursing staff, in a private hospital, you may want to implement a new policy that bans cell phones and requires a workshop for all nurses and hospital staff during working hours (this scenario is an example and you are not required to adopt it!).
How would you deliver the information via memo about these new policies?
How would you convince the employees and staff and these new policies are important to the success of the workplace?

Audience and Purpose
While the memo will deliver what will probably be regarded as bad news (few people like change, especially if it calls into question the efficiency of employees), it must still be persuasive— part of your audience has the added level of complication that they are volunteers—make them mad, and they may go away.  So the task ask at hand is to announce the policy, yes—but more importantly, persuade the readers to agree and go along with it.
The tone and style of the memo should befit the director of an organization, and reflect his/her persona—many directors or people in charge exude a direct and firm demeanor, not a warm and fuzzy, hand-holding sensitivity. Think about your tone, style, word-choice, vocabulary, and audience as you write and as you revise. The memo should also follow the guidelines outlined in your text, be single-spaced, error-free, and carefully proofed before submission.

The mean drying time of a brand of spray paint is known to be 90

The mean drying time of a brand of spray paint is known to be 90 seconds. The research division of the
company that produces this paint contemplates that adding a new chemical ingredient to the paint will
accelerate the drying process. To investigate this conjecture, the paint with the chemical additive is sprayed
on 15 surfaces and the drying times are recorded. The mean and standard deviation computed from these
measurements are 86 and 4.5 seconds, respectively. Assume the measurements constitute a random sample
from a normal population. Answer the following questions.

a) Define µ in the context of this problem.
(b) What is the point estimate for the mean drying time of the spray paint with the new chemical ingredient?
(c) Construct a 98% confidence interval for the mean drying time of the paint with the chemical additive.
Is µ included in this interval?
(d) Do these data provide strong evidence that the mean drying time is reduced by the addition of the new
chemical? Perform the hypothesis testing (at the significance level ? = .02) by answering the questions
arranged in the following.
i. Formulate the null and alternative hypotheses.
ii. State the Type I error and Type II error in the context of the problem and tell why Type I error is
more serious.
iii. State the test statistic and its distribution.
iv. Determine the critical value for ? = .025 and state the decision rule.
v. Calculate the observed value of the test statistic from the data.
vi. State whether H 0 is rejected and tell why.
Readings: Section 10.3.
2. Rural and urban students are to be compared on the basis of their scores on a nationwide musical aptitude

Answer the following questions.
(a) Define µ 1 and µ 2 in the context of the problem.
(b) What is the point estimate for µ 1 ? µ2?
(c) Construct a 97% confidence interval for µ 1 ? µ 2 . Is µ included in this interval?
(d) Do these data provide strong evidence that there is a difference in population mean scores between urban
and rural students? Perform the hypothesis testing (at the significance level ? = .01) by answering the
questions arranged in the following.
i. Formulate the null and alternative hypotheses.
ii. State the test statistic and its distribution.
iii. Determine the critical value for ? = .01 and state the decision rule.
iv. Calculate the observed value of the test statistic from the data.
v. State whether H 0 is rejected and tell why.

 Assignment: Pharmacotherapy for Cardiovascular Disorders

heart disease remains the No. 1 killer in America; nearly half of all Americans have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or smoke—some of the leading risk factors for heart disease…
—Murphy et al., 2018
Despite the high mortality rates associated with cardiovascular disorders, improved treatment options do exist that can help address those risk factors that afflict the majority of the population today.
As an advanced practice nurse, it is your responsibility to recommend appropriate treatment options for patients with cardiovascular disorders. To ensure the safety and effectiveness of drug therapy, advanced practice nurses must consider aspects that might influence pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes such as medical history, other drugs currently prescribed, and individual patient factors.

Review the case study assigned by your Instructor for this Assignment.

Select one the following factors: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior factors.
Reflect on how the factor you selected might influence the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes.
Consider how changes in the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes might impact the patient’s recommended drug therapy.
Think about how you might improve the patient’s drug therapy plan based on the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes. Reflect on whether you would modify the current drug treatment or provide an alternative treatment option for the patient.

CASE STUDY BELOW FOR WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT.
This week, you will examine the impact of patient factors that may lead to changes in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes on patient drug therapy for cardiovascular disorders. You will also explore ways to improve drug therapy plans for cardiovascular disorders based on patient factors and overall health needs.
Students will:

Analyze the influence of patient factors on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes
Analyze the impact of changes in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes on patient drug therapies
Evaluate drug therapy plans for cardiovascular disorders

Patient CB has a history of strokes. The patient has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Drugs currently prescribed include the following:

International Health and Medical Service Different Art Movements Discussion

Discussion 1Part I has four sections. First briefly explain what primarily distinguishes Renaissance art in general from the prior Medieval period. Then, trace the evolution and development of art through the periods of the Early Renaissance to the High Renaissance. Compare and contrast the work of an Italian Renaissance artist with a work done by a northern European Renaissance artist. Include a discussion of the different concerns and heritages of the Italian and Northern Renaissance artists and how these resulted in different characteristics in the art work of each region. Be sure to use the new art vocabulary you are learning as you describe the art works. Use specific examples of art in your response.Part II: Compare and contrast two works of art done in two different eras/styles. Select from the following pairs of eras/styles: Medieval and Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo, Rococo and Neoclassical. Include an overview of what primarily distinguishes the art work of each era, and then indicate specific formal or thematic aspects of each work that typify its era. Include a discussion of the role of changing cultural and political climates in influencing the shift from on style to the next. You may choose two paintings, two sculptural works, or two architectural works. Be sure to use the terminology regarding elements of art and principles of design that we studied in Unit I as you proceed in your discussion. Select specific art works and provide page numbers or links.Discussion 2Part I: In Islamic culture, there are certain religious restrictions on use of imagery and representation of human or animal forms is forbidden in many art forms. As a result, Islamic art has developed highly sophisticated abstract, geometric, and linear decorative elements. Compare and contrast this aspect of Islamic art with art of another culture we have studied (your choice) that is centrally concerned with pictorial representations of iconic figures or realistic depictions of historical events or realistic situations. In your discussion, consider the various elements of art and design principles covered in Unit I of this course. As always, use specific examples of art.Part II: Compare the art works of two artists from any two different art movements covered in Chapter 21. Describe, then compare, the contexts, concerns and main aspects of each movement and how that appears in the works you’ve selected. Be sure to explain why you made your particular choices of movements, artists and artworks. Evaluating the artwork you’ve selected according to any criteria you think are relevant (given what you have learned so far in the course). Be sure to use specific examples of art works in your discussion.
