Explain how the food banks improved efficiency by creating a market system to allocate food.

https://www.npr.org/2020/07/15/891488686/summer-school-2-markets-pickles

Listen this 31 minutes podcast and answer the questions. No need to use formal words.

1. Explain how the food banks improved efficiency by creating a market system to allocate food.

2. Each food bank was given “money” (shares) based on need and number of clients served. How does that differ from how a real market works, and what effect does that have on distribution/allocation? Which method do you think is better?

3. One main topic of the podcast is whether market forces are the best way to allocate scarce resources. A major debate going on these days is how much market forces should be used in allocating resources in education (for example should all schools be private) and health care (other wealthy nations have national health care, not the largely private system we use the US). Choose one of these areas (education or health care) and briefly explain why you think markets should or should not be used.

Are there any logical holes or fallacies in your argument?

In this forum, think about an issue that is relevant to your community. You can think of community beyond just geography (a professional community, interest community, etc).  For example: since I am an educator, I might examine an issue in higher education, like remote proctoring technology. Since my family shares one car but we commute to work in different directions, I might think about the need for more accessible public transportation in OKC. Since I enjoy reading and I’m an English instructor, I might think about why graphic novels should be encouraged in literature courses. The community you choose can be, but does not have to be, geography-based.

Being as formal and as logical as you can, create a two-paragraph argument that we can follow that will help us to understand your belief in the issue.  Even though this issue is important to you, aim to be as objective as possible.  Remember, too, to be respectful of those in the class who may have views that differ from your own.

Please note: You should not choose an argument/issue that questions or debates the rights or humanity of individuals or people groups. Avoid arguments based on morals. Arguments that do not follow these guidelines will not receive credit.

When you are finished typing your argument , go back through your posting and: 1) underline the premises of your argument; and 2) highlight your conclusion in bold.

Finally, at the end of your posting, type a few sentences that comment on your argument.  Does the conclusion seem to logically follow from the premises?  Are there any logical holes or fallacies in your argument?  How might you improve your argument?

She denies any other weakness or numbness at this time. However, she reports that she has been very thirsty lately and gets up more often at night to urinate. R.H. is a 74-year-old black woman, who presents to the family practice clinic for a scheduled appointment. She complains of feeling bloated and constipated for the past month, some-times going an entire week with only one bowel movement. Until this episode, she has been very regular all of her life, having a bowel movement every day or every other day. She reports straining most of the time and it often takes her 10 minutes at a minimum to initiate a bowel movement. Stools have been extremely hard. She denies pain during straining. A recent colonoscopy was negative for tumors or other lesions. She has not yet taken any medications to provide relief for her constipation. Furthermore, she reports frequent heartburn (3–4 times each week), most often occur-ring soon after retiring to bed. She uses three pillows to keep herself in a more upright position during sleep. On a friend’s advice, she purchased a package of over-the-counter aluminum hydroxide tablets to help relieve the heartburn. She has had some improvement since she began taking the medicine. She reports using naproxen as needed for arthritic pain her hands and knees. She states that her hands and knees are extremely stiff when she rises in the morning. Because her arthritis has been getting worse, she has stopped taking her daily walks and now gets very little exercise.
