Many people frequently use the terms leader and manager interchangeably, but these roles involve two different sets of skills. Many people frequently use the terms leader and manager interchangeably, but these roles involve two different sets of skills. According to Steven Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Leaders and managers are two different things. Leadership is not management. Leadership has to come first. Management is a bottom-line focus: How can I best accomplish certain things? Leadership deals with the top line: What are the things I want to accomplish? (2017, p. 107).
The roles of leader and manager are both fundamentally important to an organization. Managers are required to keep things running smoothly and leaders are needed to provide direction and motivation and to produce change. A person can be both a good manager and a good leader, but this is not always the case. For this Discussion, you will examine the leadership skills and management skills of the leaders with whom you have worked.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Reflect on your professional experience with leaders with whom you have interacted as a follower, colleague, or supervisor. Consider the strengths and weaknesses these professionals had with regard to leadership and management skills. How well did they perform their roles as managers and as leaders?
Then, drawing from your professional experience, identify a leader with whom you have interacted as a follower, colleague, or supervisor that matches only one of the following descriptions:
They are a good leader lacking effective managing skills.
They are a good manager lacking effective leadership skills.
They are an effective leader and manager.
They are neither a good leader nor manager.
Post an analysis of leadership versus management in business, being sure to address the following:
Without giving the actual name of the leader you have selected, identify their strengths and weaknesses as a leader and as a manager. Then distinguish the individuals leadership skills from their management skills.
Analyze the effect the leader had on the business environment where you worked at the time. Was there a need for both management and leadership from this individual? Explain why or why not.
Identify two lessons learned from working with this leader that you could apply to your own professional practice as a leader and/or manager.
Refer to the Week 1 Discussion 2 Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this grading rubric to assess your work.
Important Note About Discussion Rubrics: In the peer-to-peer engagement section of the Discussion, the focus of your posts and responses should be to promote quality interaction with your colleagues and Instructor, to further the dialogue on the particular topic, to deepen your mutual understanding of concepts, and to draw out new ideas. Although you are encouraged to provide support for ideas you bring in from other sources, which is appropriate for discourse within a masters-level classroom, emphasis is placed on the quality of the engagement as noted in the Discussion rubrics, with 40% of your score based on your level of engagement in the ongoing conversation with your colleagues.
Read some of your colleagues postings.

Which enzymes important for glycosylation are discussed to play a role in tumorigenesis, particularly in breast cancer?
Topic: Glycoproteins, glycosylation & Cancer
This week you learned about the importance of glycoproteins, glycosylation and the “sugar code” and its importance for many important cellular processes, ranging from cell-cell interaction, immune function and cancer. You heard that the extracellular carbohydrate coat, called glycocalyx, plays a role in tumor formation and progression. As you work on this assignment, consider that approximately half of all human proteins known to date are glycosylated and the majority cancer biomarkers are comprised of glycoproteins. About 270,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in the U.S. per year and 6.9% of all cancer related deaths will result from breast cancer. Also consider that the human receptor tyrosine-protein kinase erbB-2 (HER2), one of the proteins found mutated in many breast cancer patients, has multiple sites of N-glycosylation important for its biological function.
This week I want you to read the following scientific review article:Scott D.A. & Drake R.R. Glycosylation and its implication in breast cancer. Exp. Rev. Proteomics. 2019 Aug.; 16(8): 665-680) and also do some additional literature research on NCBI PubMed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) on this week’s topic. Then discuss the following aspects with your class mates:
Is there scientific evidence showing a role of glycosylation in tumor development and/or metastasis?
Which sugar residues and “glyco-antigens” are discussed to play a role in tumorigenesis, particularly in breast cancer?
What are the diagnostic methods used to detect alterations in glycosylation patterns amongst normal cell and tumor cells?
What is meant by the term “sugar code”?
What are the challenges in the field of glyco-biology?
Be sure to include all references at the end of your initial posting to receive full credit. These posts need to be a couple of paragraphs and should not exceed a page (minimum of 250 words required for full credit of original post).
Briefly discuss what is meant to be a price setter or price taker, the strategies employed in both approaches, and a clear listing of the pros and cons associated with each price setting strategy. After weighing the pros and cons of each, which approach do you feel best meets the needs of the key stakeholders?
Discussion Price Setters and Price Takers
It can be postulated that there are two scenarios when it comes to price setting by providers and provider organizations. Providers refer to those practitioners eligible to bill third-party payers for the services they provide to patients. Provider organizations are facilities where care is delivered to patients. The first scenario is that providers and provider organizations are considered price takers, in that the rates of reimbursement are set by the payers with little to no input from providers and organizations. The second scenario is that providers and organizations set their own prices and that payers are expected to pay these rates. These strategies will be explored in this weeks discussion.
Briefly discuss what is meant to be a price setter or price taker, the strategies employed in both approaches, and a clear listing of the pros and cons associated with each price setting strategy. After weighing the pros and cons of each, which approach do you feel best meets the needs of the key stakeholders?
You will be expected to respond to the initial posting of at least one peer. In this response, you should share what you liked about the posting and why, and then what you believe could strengthen your peers recommendation.
Review your prior assignments, and research scholarly definitions of OB, and then define the study of OB in your own words. What do you feel is the most important aspect of the study of OB? Why do you feel this is the most important aspect?
Part 1: Organizational Behavior Field

Review your prior assignments, and research scholarly definitions of OB, and then define the study of OB in your own words.
What do you feel is the most important aspect of the study of OB?
Why do you feel this is the most important aspect?

You might be familiar with how the television show The Voice works. The judges do not see the singer until after they hear the singer and make the choice to accept the person onto their team. Do you think if all of the names were removed from application documents prior to presentation for candidate selection, and a set wage was assigned before a face-to-face interview was held, that it would help to reduce the gender disparity in wages, since the potential for gender identity is not disclosed prior to interview selection? Explain your answer.
Week 10 Discussion COLLAPSEOverall Rating:
Job discrimination (Chapter 11, pages 401433), is the topic for this week. We will explore areas such as disparity, affirmative action policies, bias wage systems, hostile work environments, sexual harassment, and many other job discrimination topics.
For this weeks discussion, think about the concept of comparable work for comparable pay. Most companies provide a job description that details the work involved for the positions, the expected experience and education needed to properly do the work, as well as the physical abilities needed to hold the positions. The applicant is aware of the requirements needed and makes the decision to submit an application, cover letter, and resume.
In this week’s discussion, you will provide your opinion on the hiring process and the determination of the wages to possibly avoid wage discrimination based on gender.
Respond to the following:
