American Girl Hostage Crisis

Wanda runs a small day care facility out of her home. Wanda’s husband Jack was recently laid off and forced to accept a lower paying job. Wanda and her husband now depend more on the day care home income than they did in the past. Lately, she has had a problem with parents canceling at the last minute, leaving Wanda with unfilled “slots.” She now makes sure that the money is paid before she reserves a day care slot for a child.

Wanda recently received a call from an old friend, Sheila, asking for a favor. Sheila had heard that Wanda ran a day care facility and was wondering if she had room for her daughter Karen. Sheila asked if she could pay her in a week or two because her husband just started a new job and it would be a couple of weeks until his first paycheck.

Karen fit in well with the other children and was very well behaved. The children often brought toys for “show and tell” and enjoyed playing with each other’s toys. Especially popular toys with the girls were Karen’s “American Girl” dolls and outfits. Wanda was a bit concerned when Karen brought them to day care, since she knew how expensive they are (with the accessories the two dolls were worth about $300) and feared that they might get damaged. Karen and the three other girls Wanda cared for would spend hours dressing up the dolls in the different “American Girl” outfits. Though Wanda discouraged the children from leaving their toys at day care overnight, toys were left frequently, even Karen’s dolls.

One morning, after Karen had missed two days of day care, Wanda received a phone message from Sheila indicating that she was going to have to withdraw Karen. In her message, Sheila explained that she was quitting her job so that she could stay home with Karen. Wanda was concerned because Sheila had still not paid for the two and a half weeks that she cared for Karen. Sheila also stated that she would send Wanda a check in the mail, but that she planned to stop by in the evening to pick up Karen’s dolls. When Wanda mentioned the situation to her husband, he became angry and suggested to Wanda that they keep Karen’s dolls until Sheila pays for the day care services.

QUESTIONS:

· How should Wanda resolve this issue?

· What Ethical System, or ‘way of moral reasoning’ provides the best outcome?

· Would the solution be the same for Christians as for non-Christians?

SUGGESTIONS:

· Students divide into teams to conduct a brief skit/ drama illustration of the different modes of moral reasoning.

· Discuss the different perspectives offered by differing modes of moral reasoning.

Is shape a prominent aspect of the work?

Assignment: Visual Analysis Infographic Due: Wednesday, September 14, 2022 by 11:59pm CST 100 points

A visual analysis is a close inspection of the artist’s use of art elements and design principles. A visual analysis moves beyond pure description. It is intended to enhance your observational and analytical skills, asking you to think critically about the choices that an artist makes. You will explain how an artist uses line, color, texture, space, emphasis, balance, proportion, and so forth, to create a unique composition. You will want to provide a detailed description of the formal (meaning “related to the form”) characteristics of the artistic composition. Remember you’re not just describing what you see, you’re describing what these elements do in the work.

Some things to consider in your analysis:

• Line: Are there any prominent lines in the work? Do you see psychological or implied lines? If so, do they serve any compositional purpose? Is line used to create a contour of an object or exist in its own right? Are the lines mostly horizontal, vertical, or diagonal? What do they suggest?

• Shape: What shapes do you see? Are they geometric? organic? biomorphic? Are there well-defined figure and ground shapes? Is shape a prominent aspect of the work?

• Mass: Does this work have real or implied mass? Where do you see this in the work? What indicates mass?

• Light: How is light used in the work? is there real or implied light? What are the values like? Do the values span white to black? Is the image relatively light or dark?

• Color: What types of colors are used? Are they warm or cool, bright or dull? Are they natural or arbitrary? Are the colors organized to lead your eye in a particular direction? Is color used to create space? What is the overall effect of color?

• Space: Is implied space created? If so, which pictorial devices are used to render the illusion of three dimensions on the two-dimensional plane. Does the artist use linear perspective, atmospheric perspective, vertical placement, overlapping, etc.? Are line and color used to create the illusion of mass or volume?

• Texture: Is there actual texture (impasto) or implied texture? Can you see the artist’s brushstrokes? Or, is the artist’s hand totally concealed? What is the overall effect of texture?

• Time and motion: Is there an implied time of day/year/era in history? Do you see implied movement or real movement? What is the effect of these elements to how we see the work?

• Design: How are the formal elements organized? What is the focal point of this composition? Describe how the artist creates emphasis in this work and

why your eye moves to this area of interest. Is the work symmetrical or asymmetrical?

Discuss examples of your own experiences of role strain and role conflict.

Identify 2-4 statuses that you occupy.  For each status describe 1-3 roles.  Discuss examples of your own experiences of role strain and role conflict.

Integrate Kurt Lewin’s “Change Theory” into a new model of healthcare theories.

Nursing has theories upon theories, and we tend to delegate those theories to a course, never really engaging in the process of how to integrate those theories into our everyday practice. It is important that as we continue to develop the profession of nursing, as well as our leadership positions within, we assure nursing theory continues to guide our decisions and inform our leadership styles.

There are multiple change theories to choose from. A common change theory in less chaotic times was proposed by Kurt Lewin: Lewins three stage change process(UNFREEZE-CHANGE-REFREEZE)

There are those that believe healthcare has become far too complex for Lewin and that change theory should advance to accommodate new theories such as Complex Adaptive Systems, Complexity Theory, or Chaos Theory.

Integrate Kurt Lewin’s “Change Theory” into a new model of healthcare theories.

Include the following aspects in the assignment:

  •  Identify an ongoing issue within your organization
  •  Using Lewin’s “Change Theory,” begin navigating through the change process
  •  Incorporate the three phases within your plan
  •  Choose a “new” model of healthcare
  •  Adapt your organizational change plan to function in the new model developed previously
  •  Include a current reference for Lewin and your chosen new model
  •  WRITE  3 pages long and in APA format
Create a 3-5-page report presenting three or more specific high-priority health improvement needs in a community of your choosing.
