Group therapy can alleviate feelings of isolation and foster a supportive and collaborative environment for sharing difficult feelings in order to facilitate healing. For many people, being part of a group that has a shared understanding of a struggle provides a unique opportunity to gain understanding of their own experiences.
As you examine one of the group therapy demonstrations from this week’s Learning Resources, consider the role and efficacy of the leader and the reasons that specific therapeutic techniques were selected.
To prepare:
· Select one of the group therapy video demonstrations from this week’s required media Learning Resources.
The Assignment
In a 4-page paper, identify the video you selected and address the following:
· What group therapy techniques were demonstrated? How well do you believe these techniques were demonstrated?
· What evidence from the literature supports the techniques demonstrated?
· What did you notice that the therapist did well?
· Explain something that you would have handled differently.
· What is an insight that you gained from watching the therapist handle the group therapy?
· Now imagine you are leading your own group session. How would you go about handling a difficult situation with a disruptive group member? How would you elicit participation in your group? What would you anticipate finding in the different phases of group therapy? What do you see as the benefits and challenges of group therapy?

As you continue your studies of environmental science, it is important to consider how you see your future self in the field of environmental science. A strong statement of purpose can contribute to securing a career that is meaningful to you and your professional goals. In a statement of purpose, you can highlight your unique expertise, areas of professional interest, and career goals. The statement of purpose you develop in this assignment could serve as a deliverable to show future employers, or it could even be slightly modified for use as a cover letter.
Create the following:
- A 300- to 500-word statement discussing your statement of purpose in the field of environmental science
- A 1- to 2-minute video introduction (something similar to a power point type video)
Include the following in your statement of purpose:
- Professional narrative:
- Who are you as an environmental scientist?
- How might you use policies and strategies to maintain biodiversity?
- Previous experience: How has your environmental worldview changed as you learned about ecosystems and the policies available to maintain biodiversity?
- Research or career interest: Why are you interested in pursuing environmental science as a discipline and career?
- Uniqueness and special attributes: What unique skills, knowledge, and viewpoints might you bring to the field of environmental science?

Assignment Instructions
Prepare an individual report demonstrating that you a) understand the key ideas presented in the assigned and recommended readings for Week 1 and b) can analyze critically the extent to which they are applicable in your current workplace. Your report should be 800-1000 words and must cite supporting evidence from the readings (or the Week 1 discussion). Your report should be double-spaced and use APA format. The title page, reference list, and any appendices are not included in this suggested word count. You do not need to include an abstract.
