Personal Growth, Acquired Knowledge, Competencies, and Applications

Instructions:

Reflect on your journey throughout the BSN program – specifically to your growth (academically and professionally) as well as the competencies in the areas that are tied to the program learning outcomes:
Professionalism
Ethical, legal & cultural considerations, sensitivity & practices
Evidence-based nursing practice and its utilization to promote, maintain, and restore health
Health maintenance and enhancement of patients, families, and communities
Leadership & Management

Compose an essay that must be a minimum of 700 words,
— describing your overall growth as to how you have grown professionally and academically from an RN to a BSN-prepared nurse. Provide some example to illustrate your narrative if necessary.

— discussing each of the areas of competency listed above to demonstrate how you have applied, are applying, or plan to apply your knowledge/competencies acquired from the BSN program to your practice.

This essay, along with the other pieces of work required to be in your ePortfolio, will be used to determine your level of achievements of meeting all the RN-BSN program learning outcomes. Therefore, refrain from any *fillers* in this essay but be clear, concise, direct, and specific to your reflection and examples.

In this essay,

Your essay must contain an introduction and a conclusion.

In each area of competency, provide examples with your narrative to clearly illustrate how you have used/plan to use/will use your knowledge, competency, and its application.

Cite sources in your essay as appropriate (e.g., when you refer to certain piece of knowledge acquired) and correctly in APA style and format. For your work to carry weights, provide appropriate citations/references from reliable sources.

The order of the areas of competency above in your essay does not necessarily have to be as listed. You may rearrange them as you deem appropriate if doing that helps enhance the flow and organization of your essay. It is recommended that you address each area separately with an appropriate heading for each area in order to facilitate your reflection and to ensure that your essay covers ALL required areas.

Title page is optional but the format of the essay must be in correct APA (with title, double spacing, with proper headings, page numbers, and references).

Appropriate title relevant to the content of the essay is required.

Conduct critical analysis for the following article – Miller, Benjamin. “The Concept of Security: Should it be Redefined? ” Journal of Strategic Studies 24, no. 2 (2001): 14–42.

When analysing consider the following questions:

What is the core argument of the article and what is the author’s understanding of the concept of ‘security’?

Is the article arguing against anything?

Where does the article sit in terms of debates about security and the broader discipline of international security studies?

What boundaries does the author seek to suggest are appropriate for the discipline of international security studies?

What are the key strengths and weaknesses of the article?

In answering these questions, consider the following framework:

Who/what is the appropriate reference object?
What counts as a security issue?
How is security achieved?

Compare Frost’s “The Road not Taken” and Thomas’ “Do not Go Gentle into that Good Night” and discuss the extent to which each poet is able to convey thoughts subtler and more profound than an initial reading of his poem might suggest.

I only need a research proposal to be done on the given topic. I have attached both poems so they can be read and analyzed. The Rubric has also been listed below as well as attached in a PDF.

Research Proposal: Guidelines

Your research proposal should be about 250 words long; divide the proposal explicitly into the following headings. It needs to give those assessing your proposal an impression of the strength and originality of your proposed research, and its potential to make a contribution to knowledge. It should be written in clear and precise prose. Avoid grammatical mistakes and typographical errors. You should make sure you cover the following areas:

▪ Working title: this may change by the time you complete the paper

▪ Outline the area and topic of your research

Provide brief background /context, explore past research (they say /counter-argument), and relate your proposed research to other work in its field or related fields; this is a chance to show your understanding of the background against which your research will be defined.

▪ The contribution you will make

This is your chance to show how you have arrived at your position and recognised the need for your research, and how it contributes to knowledge and to the practice of your subject.

▪ Proposed thesis structure:

Include your argument/thesis and the proposed major points of your argument.

▪ The sources you will use

Give examples of the sort of evidence you might consider, and of the questions it might help you to raise. Mention the

secondary resources of central relevance to your project.

▪ How the research has wider implications

You should show how your work will make a contribution to knowledge and to the practice of your area of research.

Case Presentations: you will be required to post a minimum of two cases. Post all cases in this discussion area, noting the following requirements:

Understanding the role of a police officer

Critically evalute the strategic role of the college of policing in professionalising police in the united kingdom.

How do officers fulfill the role of modern professional policing

How has the role of a police officer changed in the last three years (Covid 19, George Floyd)

Consider the strategic policing requirement in the UK L, policing vision 2025, the workforce transformation 2018 and the college of policing’s 5 year strategy.

Enforcement of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (REAL)

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) was created to enforce the Civil Rights Act of 1964. [They also enforce the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Equal Pay Act.] They take thousands of enforcement actions every year. In 2020 alone and under the Civil Rights Act cases alone, the EEOC mediated over 5,000 settlements between employers and employees and resolved over 8,000 cases with decisions favorable to the employee with a total of $234 million dollars of monetary benefits.

Look at one or more of the types of discrimination listed on the webpage linked below, select one or more topic to read more about it, and summarize what you learn for your classmates to read and respond to.

https://www.eeoc.gov/discrimination-type (Links to an external site.)

Your summary should be clear writing of at least a good paragraph in length that helps explain exactly what the EEOC considers when deciding when to take enforcement action against a business. Your post should be in your own words, not cut and pasted from the website, and you should also make a separate post making a substantive comment on a fellow student’s summary. Two posts are required for this discussion.

consider how various media outlets depict “disabilities or illnesses” and compare and contrast these portrayals with one or two theoretical perspectives and/or practice models that inform social work practice.
  1. REFLECTIVE PAPER: PORTRAYALS OF ILLNESS AND DISABILITY IN THE MEDIA (30 POINTS)

Traditional models of understanding illness and disability such as the medical model were built on frameworks that focused on the individual, primarily pathology or deficit based. The purpose of this reflective paper is to consider how various media outlets depict “disabilities or illnesses” and compare and contrast these portrayals with one or two theoretical perspectives and/or practice models that inform social work practice. See Appendix B for requirements, instructions, and grading rubric. The paper must be submitted to the instructor via TURNITIN.

APPENDIX B

REFLECTION PAPER: MEDIA PORTRAYALS OF ILLNESS AND DISABILITY (30 POINTS)

As you complete your graduate education, viewing information from diverse sources through a “social work lens” can lead you to be a great advocate to those individuals, groups, or communities that may experience health disparities, illnesses, or disabilities. This is an opportunity to identify what you have learned, critically examine how the issue is presented to the general public and offer recommendations on how to advocate and promote the social work ethics and values such as dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, as well as our professional mission.

The purpose of this reflective paper is to consider how various media outlets portray “disabilities or illnesses” and compare and contrast these portrayals with one or two theoretical perspectives and/or practice models, which inform social work practice. Then, as an advocate, present recommendations on how the media source could have portrayed the topic from a strength-based or empowering position, incorporating the professional values and ethics of social work.

This reflective paper should be based on a full-length feature film. See the list below for suggestions. Other films that you may want to use must be approved by the instructor. Students may view movies in groups, but each student must write his/her own reflective paper.

Suggested Reflective Paper Outline. No more than 6 pages.

  • State the film you reviewed and provide a BRIEF summary
  • Identify the “illness/ disability” you will be addressing
  • Describe how this experience is portrayed in the film. If you are focusing on a specific incident or sequence, please note this.
  • Based on this, identify and explain how this experience fits a “viewpoint” about this illness or disability, for example, is it based on a medical model? A disability approach?
  • Contrast this portrayal with a strength-based or another empowering model of social work practice that was covered in any of your coursework. You must explain what the approach is and describe how the situation or actor presented the issue(s).
  • Then, as an advocate for this person/situation, provide recommendations on how the media source could have portrayed the topic from a strength-based or empowering position, incorporating social work values and ethics.
  • NOTE: If the movie portrays the “illness or disability” through a strength-based or social work empowerment perspective, celebrate this and then offer how it could have been portrayed if a deficit model was used in the movie.
  • Offer final thoughts of your own learning on any topic in this course.

Does Winter have an addiction? Or can we call this a harmless hobby? Your thoughts?

Instructions:
You will be required to complete a reaction paper related to a controversial topic with real world implications to addiction. This reaction paper is strictly an opinion-based paper with no right or wrong answer. In fact, I expect there will be many different RIGHT answers. However, you will be asked to support your opinion with either research you have come across or applied experiences. Considering our diverse backgrounds I look forward to a wide range of opinions.

While your individual opinion will be kept confidential between student and professor, I will summarize and report these back to the class as GROUP RESULTS. No individual will be identified.
The body of this paper is two pages in length (minimum and maximum) so you will need to be concise. You should also have a Title Page and References. Use APA format for in-text citations and references.

Reaction Paper: Related to the case study I included in the PowerPoint for Chapter 1. See media report on slide 7 or click on link below: http://www.chron.com/houston/article/Starbucks-biggest-fan-is-from-Houston-5804194.php#photo-6961782. What do you think about this dude, Winter Smith?

Back in 2005, when I was living in my home state of CT, I got this call from an amateur filmmaker who was doing a documentary on Smith. He ended up flying from Iowa (interesting that I live in Iowa now) to interview me and my students who had “analyzed” Winter in the Abnormal Psych course I was teaching at the time. The movie he produced was called Starbucking. I’m in it a couple of times and near the end of the film was specifically asked if I thought Winter had an addiction.

Likewise I will ask you the same question: Does Winter have an addiction? Or can we call this a harmless hobby? Your thoughts?

Besides the link above, if you Google Winter Smith Starbucks, you’ll get information on him going back to around 2002 or so which may help you to formulate your overall reaction to our case study’s behavior. Include at least one additional media report in your paper (in-text citation & in references).

Make sure at the end of the essay you include your vote (addiction: yes or no?).

The body of the paper should be two pages in length (minimum and maximum) so you will need to be concise. You should also have a Title Page and References. Use APA format for in-text citations and references. If I do not see that a vote has been clearly made, five points will be deducted from your overall score.

Neil v Biggers: Discuss what circumstances should be considered in determining fairness. Why are these circumstances important in determining the fairness of an identification procedure?

In Neil v. Biggers (1972) the Court determined that identification procedures must be fair. To determine whether the procedures were fair, courts must consider all the circumstances leading to the identification. Discuss what circumstances should be considered in determining fairness. Why are these circumstances important in determining the fairness of an identification procedure?
