select and investigate a recent ‘iconic’ construction project completed in the last 10 years or currently progressing.

Assessment task details
and instructions
Working individually, you are required to select and investigate a
recent ‘iconic’ construction project completed in the last 10 years or
currently progressing. The project can be located in any part of the
world. Considering your selected iconic project, you should write a
3000-word research oriented report covering the following two
tasks:
TASKS

  1. Introduce your selected project. The selected project should
be named, and a brief background should be provided to
introduce/describe the chosen project and to justify its iconic
nature. Project key information and start and completion
dates should be clearly specified by including relevant
    tables/figures.
  2. Describe and map, by creating two IDEFO diagrams, the main
processes in the pre-construction phase (i.e. all the key
processes preceding the construction phase) of the selected
project. The two IDEF0 diagrams should consist of a single
Level 0 diagram (i.e., Context diagram) and a single Level 1
diagram. You should also select four processes, from your
Level 1 IDEF0 diagram, and describe the flow of activities
within these processes by using four UML Activity diagrams.
The RIBA Plan of Work or CIOB Code of Practice for Project
Management frameworks must be investigated and used to
identify and map the main processes/activities and other
relevant information to be included in your own diagrams.
The selected framework should be clearly named in the
    report.
Each diagram should be introduced and discussed in the
report by clearly describing the processes/activities depicted
in the diagram in the context of the selected project and of
the selected project life cycle framework (i.e. RIBA Plan of
Work or CIOB Code of Practice for Project Management). The
description of the illustrated processes and activities is
expected to be effectively supported by references to the
selected project life cycle framework and relevant literature.
You should also make appropriate assumptions as necessary
and state them accordingly. The description of the four UML
Can Drug Courts Help to Reduce Prison and Jail Populations?

Drug courts have been widely praised as an important
tool for reducing prison and jail populations by diverting drug-involved offenders into treatment rather than
incarceration. Yet only a small share of offenders presenting with drug abuse or dependence are processed
in drug courts. This study uses inmate self-report surveys from 2002 and 2004 to examine characteristics of
the prison and jail populations in the United States and
assess why so many drug-involved offenders are incarcerated. Our analysis shows that four factors have prevented drug courts from substantially lowering the flow
into prisons and jails. In descending order of importance, these are: drug courts’ tight eligibility requirements, specific sentencing requirements, legal
consequences of program noncompliance, and constraints in drug court capacity and funding. Drug courts
will only be able to help lower prison and jail populations if substantial changes are made in eligibility and
sentencing rules.
Keywords: drug courts; eligibility criteria; prison and
jail populations; alternatives to incarceration
The U.S. “war on drugs” has markedly
increased incarceration rates since the
1980s, as a greater number of drug-using
offenders were sent to prison and jail for
increasingly long periods of time (Blumstein
and Beck 1999; Caulkins and Chandler 2006).
The repercussions of this buildup remain with
us today in the form of historically large incarcerated populations. What is more, a majority
of offenders incarcerated for both drug and
nondrug crimes either abused or were
addicted to illegal drugs (Karberg and James
2005; Mumola and Karberg 2006), and there
is reasonable evidence that substance use—
especially frequent and heavy use—is associated with greater criminality (Bennett,
Holloway, and Farrington 2008).
Against this backdrop, interest has grown in
programs that combine community-based drug
treatment with justice system oversight as an
alternative to incarceration. Drug courts, in

Connect that to the history of Hearsay law and its development in the UK and the US. Does the new laws – the current approach – help or hinder women?

Topic:
Hearsay: Friend or Foe of Feminism? A Comparative Study of the UK’s and the US’ Approach to Women’s
Experiences in Domestic Violence and Rape Cases

Description
Structure: Abstract, Content page, Introduction, Methodology, Literature review, Evidence and Conclusion.
Topics to include:

  1. Fundamentals of Evidence: principles, foundational terms and concepts, the adversarial trial, trier of law
    and fact, admissibility.
  2. Processes of Proof and fact finding
  3. Evidence and the Police: Right to silence, confessions, improperly obtained evidence, duties of disclosure,
    discretionary exclusion of evidence
  4. Burden and Standard of Proof: Right to a Fair Trial
  5. Witnesses: Competence and compellability, vulnerable witness protection, examination in chief, cross
examination, corroboration and supporting evidence, Rape Shield
  6. Identification Evidence
  7. Hearsay
  8. Bad Character Evidence
  9. Expert Evidence
  10. Immunities & Public Policy
  11. Legal Professional Privilege
Things to dive into: A sociolegal approach and inquiry to hearsay evidence (law) that will explore the
different ways women are discriminated against when giving evidence at trial in domestic violence and rape
cases. Need to include sociological studies into the different ways women would communicate with outsiders
when victim to aforementioned crimes: for example, that women will tell their families and friends first
instead of going directly to police as these crimes happen behind closed doors; as opposed to men who often
fall victim to crimes “outside” where there are often cameras (CCTV) or witnesses.
Connect that to the history of Hearsay law and its development in the UK and the US. Does the new laws –
the current approach – help or hinder women? has it been easier to rely on hearsay evidence? Should the law
    change or do more? Etc.

Explain the mechanics of a Basis Spread with numerical example.

Question 3

Though Alpha Seekers Investments has a general preference for exchange-traded derivatives, the management of Teachers Pension Fund is interested in knowing more about the use of OTC derivatives particularly forwards and Swaps for managing the risks of their proposed investments in UK equities. Your line manager requires your report to cover this too.

Required:

Explain the mechanics of a Basis Spread with numerical example. (10 marks)

Illustrate the pricing of a hypothetical forward contract on BT Group’s stock and how it can be used to manage the risk of the proposed investment. You will have to consider and choose the required inputs and make reasonable assumptions wherever required. Provide clear descriptions of all the steps in the process and a conclusion. (8 marks)

Illustrate the pricing of a hypothetical swap contract involving Teachers Pension Fund receiving Fixed GBP Rate derived from GBP Libor rate and paying the returns on BT Group’s stock; assume an investment of £2,500,000, payments made quarterly for one year. For any missing Libor term rates, assume that the term structure of interest rates is linear and upward sloping. Provide detail descriptions of each step. (12 marks)

                                    (30 marks)
                                          (Word limit 600)

Note: There are five marks for report format (3 marks) and Harvard referencing
(2 marks).

Explain Risk Neutral behaviour and describe how it is different than Risk Averse and Risk Seeking behaviours in financial markets.

Question 2

As a junior analyst, you have been tasked by your line manager to prepare supporting calculations in your report for a presentation to be made before Teachers Pension Fund’s management. These calculations should essentially demonstrate derivative pricing using the No Arbitrage Principle. To do so, you choose to demonstrate the pricing of futures and options contract on BT Group listed on Eurex Exchange. The line manager also wants to understand more about risk neutral pricing and expects you to provide some explanation of the underlying concepts.

Required:

Estimate the fair price of any BT Group futures contract on Eurex using the cost of carry model. You are required to cover the following too:
provide (select and make assumptions) any missing inputs.
explain all the inputs in your pricing model and justify each.
compare the price from your cost of carry model against the actual price at the day close and explain any underlying reasons for the under-pricing or over-pricing. (8 marks)

1). Estimate the prices of both a BT Group call and a BT Group put option trading on Eurex Exchange using two and three period binomial option pricing models as well as the BSM model. You must cover the following:
provide (select and make assumptions) any missing inputs.
explain all the inputs in your pricing model and justify each.
evaluate whether the call and the put options are over or under-valued based on the price estimates from your calculations compared to their actual prices on Eurex Exchange. (12 marks)

2). For the two period binomial model, demonstrate that the estimated price of the call is fair using the hedge portfolio calculations over the two period and adjusting the hedge ratio accordingly. (4 marks)

Estimate the value of the risk free bonds from the put-call parity using first the prices of calls and puts from the BSM model in B above and then the actual prices of calls and puts available from Eurex Exchange for the same calls and puts. Discuss the factors that could explain the differences in pricing across the two put-call parity calculations. (6 marks)

Explain Risk Neutral behaviour and describe how it is different than Risk Averse and Risk Seeking behaviours in financial markets. Give relevant examples of each from financial markets. Why is derivatives pricing considered to be risk neutral? Explain. (10 marks)

Assess futures and options listed on both ICE and Eurex markets and the features of available derivative contracts on BT Group & recommend which market should be used for trading.

Question 1

Teachers Pension Fund has indicated interest in international investments in equity securities and has requested Alpha Seekers to consider the UK equity market. Alpha Seekers has indicated that such a portfolio would also require the use of different derivative contracts to manage risk and that generally it prefers to use exchange-traded derivatives to over the counter (OTC) contracts. Further Alpha Seekers identified Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) and Eurex Exchange as the two potential organised trading markets to consider for trading derivative contracts for managing risk of Teachers Pension Fund’s potential investment portfolio.

Required:

Identify the features of futures on BT Group listed on ICE and Eurex Exchange. Compare the differences between ICE and Eurex options on BT Group. (15 marks)

Assess futures and options listed on both ICE and Eurex markets and the features of available derivative contracts on BT Group & recommend which market should be used for trading. (10 marks)

                                                                                 (25 marks)

Explain briefly, three significant strategic risk challenges for MU plc.

Assignment 3
You are the newly appointed Compliance Officer for MU plc, an insurer.
Prior to your appointment, the regulator for the market in which MU plc operates expressed concerns about
the effectiveness of the oversight of MU plc’s Board. These concerns include the relationships between the
governance processes, documentation and approach to risk management.
Following the regulator’s concerns, the Board sought the advice of an external compliance consultancy. The
consultancy’s advice highlighted deficiencies in MU plc’s code of ethics and compliance culture.
The Board has instructed you to report on the strategic risk challenges arising from the regulator’s concerns
and the consultancy’s highlighted deficiencies.
Question
• Explain briefly, three significant strategic risk challenges for MU plc.
• Analyse the potential implications for MU plc of each of these three strategic risk challenges.
• Recommend, based on your analysis, how MU plc should address these strategic risk challenges

Write a brief Book report on The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao

Book report on The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao

Description
Quote from professor: “This is where you will submit your Book Review on The Brief and Wonderous Life of
Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz. You will need to submit a five page book review. The book review can cover any
concept. The only thing that I am asking for, is for you all to paint a picture of what happened in the book. Tell
me your honest opinion on the book. For example, you can start by giving a brief summation of the book and
then go on to tell me your thoughts on the book. I am hoping that this provides you all practice for academic
writing in a more casual setting. One last thing you also need to provide at least five peer reviewed articles to
back up what you are saying. Having evidence to back up what you say is very important in the academic
world.” Written in English, just about that book for my Spanish class.

What print methods might you consider for the first smaller runs?

Description
Assume you are given the task of developing retail packaging for a new product. The product and package will
be produced in a small town in China and then shipped and sold in the United States.
The product will be small runs at first and the package will be a folding carton with a three color print. What
print methods might you consider for the first smaller runs? Would you change to a different method if the
product does well and goes into larger production runs? Justify your reasoning and considerations.
