Analysis and evaluation of a topic which you have previously studied in the course or something completely different.

This module is assessed by a 10,000 word dissertation on a business management related topic of your own
choosing. This can be a more in depth analysis and evaluation of a topic which you have previously studied in
the course or something completely different. Your UGMP will be specific and unique to each individual. It is
the author who decides the topic, the content, the method…and how much effort s/he wants to put in to it.
This method of assessment has been chosen as it is very likely that this dissertation will be the largest project
you will have completed in your degree so far. You will gain very valuable employability skills and the skills
required for project management.
This module requires you to develop your chosen topic into a specific project with your supervisor. You will be
required to conduct literature reviews, evaluate and critically appraise a range of information, investigate and
adopt suitable desk-based methodologies and theoretical frameworks to work within, process data, and
determine solutions to those problems. This module does NOT permit you to engage in primary research data
generation, i.e. gathering data by conducting your own surveys, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups or other
forms of primary data collection is NOT permitted for the purposes of this research. The research must be
carried out using secondary data only.

Discuss potential knowledge mobilization and research impact; what do you expect to find and why is it important? How might it contribute academically and practically?

It will then examine the impact and implications of natural catastrophes on Provincial Parks in British Columbia,
Canada.

  1. Conduct a literature overview. Use subtitles for different disciplines and fields of inquiry from the literature
you are drawing from?. Remember to speak about interdisciplinarity.
    A. Looking for future research to come up with a straightforward research question and sub-questions,
    B. What is the research question? Statement of the problem and contextualization of the research. What is the
rationale, and why is this important. Mention interdisciplinarity. Subquestion?
Important to describe the increased demand for outdoor space because of the pandemic and the ability to stay
local while connecting to carrying capacity.
  2. Explanation of the epistemological approach and theories; Remember this theory is just an ideal picture of
something, that we can compare reality against. Keep in mind interdisciplinarity.
  3. Description of the methodology and methods; in this case: case studies, (Phenomenology) interviews park
users and stakeholders. Describe your sample or samples (approximately 20). Who to interview. The third
    methodology will be autoethnography.
  4. Discuss potential knowledge mobilization and research impact; what do you expect to find and why is it
important? How might it contribute academically and practically?
  5. The paper must be interdisciplinary from the field of social sciences. I am looking at tourism, business,
    leadership, environmental sciences,
    A. Sub-topics include looking at the carrying capacity on Provincial Parks (critical to connect this to the
    pandemic)
    B. Examine the best practices of other countries with catastrophic events such as western USA (California) and
    Australia).
    C. This paper will provide a timeline of the natural catastrophes in British Columbia in 2021. Such as fire,
mudslides, smoke, heatwave, avalanches, flooding, etc. British Columbia lost two towns to fire and several areas
were impacted by flooding. Two major highways were washed away. etc.
The paper must focus on British Columbia Canada, however, you can examine the park system at the Federal,
Provincial and Municipal levels as part of the literature review. If you need a specific context, provincial parks
    would be the BEST.
If you can come up with a clever title, along the lines such as the Perfect Storm for Catastrophe in British
    Columbi
Evaluate the journal article provided to determine the quality of the Research and its value to clinical practice.

This assignment will assist in developing your knowledge and skills in relation to the critical evaluation of

Consider the business case for ethical strategies and business management.

This “self-study’ module focuses on the topic of ETHICAL strategic management.

Read Chapter 9.

Then return to the Lola’s Market case (case 2 in the book…what you already worked on in your first case assignment).

Write a short response to each of the following questions/tasks. Simply download this document and use it as your ‘answer sheet’ by writing your name and then your answers below each item.

1. Consider the business case for ethical strategies and business management.

a. Identify three ‘ethical management’ issues you believe David and Lola’s Market

ought to pay attention to as either risks or opportunities.

b. For each of the three issues, describe how it is a strategic risk or an opportunity.

2.  David hires you to recommend a ‘THREE-POINT PLAN’ for Lola’s to position itself as a firm with a strong commitment to social responsibility.

a. What would you recommend as the three points – the three main themes or initiatives – you think will best achieve that goal?

b. Argue how each of those three recommendations has positive strategic value for    Lola’s.

3. What other ideas would you suggest to David if his goal is to truly build a culture and organization that emphasizes ethics and social responsibility?

What is the WIDA Assessment Management System?
  1. What is the WIDA Assessment Management System?

Supports preparation for the administration of Access for ELLs assessment and WIDA Screener online.  However, you might use WIDA to view student or testing information.  Last, the online interface for administrative functions associated with giving ACCESS for ELLs.

  1. Explicitly describe the WIDA Assessment, including test content and results or the scoring procedures.
  2. What does the test measure?

How well a student listen, read, speak, and write in the English language.

  • Are all 4 domains addressed?  If so, how?

Yes, all 4 domains are addressed online.

  • What is the format of the assessment?

Students will take the listening test first, then the reading.  After that, the speaking and writing test will be taken.

  • How long does the assessment take?

The assessment length depends on the test administrator and test coordinator.  Usually one domain is taken per day.  A total of four days.

  • Explanation of the results?
    • Raw scores,

Raw scores is, the number of items correct (for Listening and Reading) or the initial rating (for Speaking and Writing). Raw scores are not very meaningful by themselves because they do not account for test difficulty. If a student responds correctly to several questions on a difficult test form, she or he should receive a higher score overall than when getting the same number of questions correct on an easier test form.

  • Percentile scores,

Scale scores precisely track student growth over time and across grades. Because scale scores take into account differences in item difficulty, they place all students on a single continuum that stretches from kindergarten through grade 12. In addition, scale scores allow you to compare student performance across grades, within each domain, with more granularity than you’ll see with proficiency levels. For example, using scale scores, you can track how much a student’s listening ability increases from grade 6 to grade 7, or you might compare the speaking skills of your school’s second graders to that of the fifth graders when evaluating curricula. Scale scores are not raw scores. A raw score is simply a tally of correct responses.

  • Scoring procedures,

Different methods are used to score the different domain tests of ACCESS for ELLs. • The multiple-choice items of the Listening and Reading tests are machine scored. • The constructed response items of the Writing test are scored by trained raters who use the WIDA Writing Scoring Scale. • The constructed response items of the Speaking domain are scored locally by certified test administrators when students take ACCESS for ELLs Paper. Recorded responses are scored centrally by trained raters when students take ACCESS for ELLs Online. Both test administrators and centralized raters use the WIDA Speaking Scoring Scale.

  • Growth measure

Multiple consecutive years of data are necessary to analyze student growth. Consider the first year a student takes ACCESS for ELLs as an opportunity to establish a baseline of test performance. Results from the second year can show growth, and only with three years or more of test results can you see trends in the student’s language development. Both proficiency levels and scale scores can help you understand student growth year over year. Proficiency levels are a practical way to understand students’ skills, while scale scores offer a more nuanced measure of how much a student’s language use and control is changing.

  1. What are the tiers of the Speaking Test?

             Tier Pre-A, Tier A, and Tier B/C

  1. Why must Listening and Reading be administered before Speaking and Writing?

Students placement in Speaking and Writing Test depends on their performance in

             Listening and Reading.

  1. When scheduling Listening and Reading test sessions, which students may take the test together?

Students in any grade and any cluster.

  1. Which piece of equipment is necessary for a student to respond to tasks in the speaking

 Test?

 Headset with a microphone

  1. How do you share the results with the students and parents?

A hard copy is mailed and emailed to both parents and students in their home language.  Additionally, students receive scores the first week of school to compare to the previous year and to set a new goal for the upcoming school year.

  1. How is the WIDA used to guide instructional and curricular decisions for learners (multiple contents)?

All student test scores are provided to content teachers along with the Can-do-descriptors for teachers to use when planning lessons to understand what each student can do successfully at each level.  Also, results of student scores can be used to group students.  Last, the benefits provide clear learning goals that promote equity for all and model the process for integrating content and language in instruction.

  1. How does the WIDA differ from ACCESS Testing? Are both interdependent?

WIDA provides the- language development process and how the WIDA Standards Framework represents the joining of grade-level academic content and language.  Access testing determines the level an EL learner is on based on the WIDA teachings.  Therefor, they are not interdependent of one another.

Considering the Text (The Tipping Point)

* What is the platforms stickiness factor?
* Who is the platforms’ user base?
* How does it apply to the audience of X examples?
* From your examples, do they fit into Maven, Salesperson, Connector? (Law of the Few)
* What is novel about their approach? Why was it relevant to their audience?
* What other platforms have they used? Is their approach different there?

× How can I help you?
