What policies, if any, did the organization have in place to protect against the violation?
The privacy and security provisions of HIPAA are complex. HIPAA allows states to establish stricter standards than those in HIPAA, but not less strict versions.
For this assignment, research two real-life examples of HIPAA violations of privacy or security laws that occurred in the U.S. since the passage of the HIPAA law (after 1996). Each violation described should be serious, and one that resulted in a fine or penalty for the individual or company involved.
You can find real-life examples of HIPAA violations in news reports, medical journals, professional health care publications, and other similar reliable factual sources
For each example violation, include the following information:
- A complete, descriptive summary of the case:
How did the HIPAA violation occur?
What policies, if any, did the organization have in place to protect against the violation?
What was the penalty for the violation (fine, prison terms, termination of employment, etc?) - Finally, describe three ways in which the organization could have prevented the violations.
Requirements:
Submit your essay in a Word document. This assignment must be at least 500 words, with at least four references cited properly in APA format.

Discuss how expert systems, neural networks, and genetic algorithms can help scientists meet medical challenges.
Meeting Medical Challenges with Artificial Intelligence
One area where human intelligence is limited is in the area of medicine. It often takes a doctor to determine a medical condition, and doctors cannot be everywhere. However, if the knowledge and processes that doctors use can be transmitted to machines, the knowledge and diagnosis of the medical field can be greatly expanded.
Discuss how expert systems, neural networks, and genetic algorithms can help scientists meet medical challenges. Provide an example of each system. Select one of your three examples and describe the system more in-depth. Give an example of a system currently being used and describe how and where it is in use today.
Consider your appearance or identity characteristics. How are you or how might you be stereotyped (positively or negatively) in your local community, your workplace, or a different region of the country?
Please respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:
Consider your appearance or identity characteristics. How are you or how might you be stereotyped (positively or negatively) in your local community, your workplace, or a different region of the country?
How are these potential stereotypes similar or different, depending on place?
Share any misconceptions that someone may have held about you in the past, and if applicable, discuss what you did to address or dispel the misconceptions.
Identify by name or position relevant stakeholders, both internal and external, and describe their roles in the strategic planning process.
Research and select a law enforcement agency (preferably in your community) in relation to outlining a strategic planning process. Make sure you are able to access information about the agency for all the required parts of the assignment. Do not use massive federal agencies, for example: ATF, DEA, or the FBI. Make sure you are using a legitimately constituted law enforcement agency. This agency must be identified by name, as it will be the foundation for upcoming assignments. Also, you cannot use any of the strategic plans that are shown in course materials, especially the one from the Scottsdale, AZ Police Department. I suggest you review each week’s assignment and course resources before committing to an agency.
Assess the public safety issues in your selected law enforcement organization as they correlate with the agency’s mission, vision, and goals.
Create an APA-style (full sentience) outline of at least one page that details the initial steps in the strategic planning process for the selected criminal justice organization and correlating public safety issues. Chapter One of the Bryson text defines a strategic plan as “. . . a deliberative, disciplined approach to producing fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, what it does, and why” (p. 7). The plan must be for the agency as a whole; it cannot be a plan for an individual unit or separate division such as the detective division, SWAT team, etc., or in response to a single issue, such as civil unrest, COVID-19, or mass shootings. The outline is 50% of the content grade. Headings for outline sections should be the same as the objectives given in the assignment. For example: if the objective says, “Identify specific public safety issues/challenges,” the outline heading for that section should say the same thing.
Include the following in your outline:
Identify by name or position relevant stakeholders, both internal and external, and describe their roles in the strategic planning process. You should have a minimum of four internal stakeholders and five external stakeholders (there are many listed in your textbooks and examples are posted in Course Resources; do not guess at what they are).
Identify specific public safety issues/challenges – there must be more than three and specific crime issues must be at least one of them
List strategies for scanning and assessing issues/challenges
Describe in detail data and resources needed to address the issues/challenges
Write a 350-word paper that discusses:
Prioritization of the public safety issues/challenges; what gets addressed first, second, third, etc.
Correlation between the organization’s mission, vision, and goals regarding the prioritized issues/challenges
Goals sufficient to address the issues/challenges
Both the outline and paper can be in the same document; just make sure there is a clear separation between the two.
This information applies to every formal submission unless stated otherwise: Format your paper according to APA guidelines. An example of an APA-style outline can be found in Course Resources; please follow this outline example for all outline assignments. Provide at least two scholarly references no older than 10 years for your assignment (be wary of using sources such as Wikipedia and study.com; scholarly sources through the university’s library are preferred). References that are not criminal justice in nature may be used only if the information contained therein is germane to the assignment. I recommend you review the document under Course Resources titled, “Unacceptable Web Sources” for further guidance. This is only a guide and by no means an exhaustive list, but it will give you an idea of sources not to use. The university library is your best source of information.

Do you think that Gladwell exposes a real truth about IQ and success in life?
Overview
Although the author, Gladwell acknowledges that 10,000 hours of practice at a skill or endeavor certainly does produce expertise at the skill, he also discusses that 10,000 hours is not the only factor that helps people to be a success. In the case of the Beatles, Bill Joy, and Bill Gates, each of these examples clearly show that they worked 10,000 hours and they were certainly talented people, but Gladwell also points out that: “But what truly distinguishes their histories is not their extraordinary opportunities. (Gladwell 55). Gladwell further explains that these were luck on some part but also “hidden opportunities that outliers benefited from” (Gladwell 56).
In regard to genius, Gladwell debunks many assumptions about the relationship between genius, as in high IQ, and being successful in life. He uses several examples of different people who possessed a very high IQ, and he also referenced the statistical data of what happens in graduate programs. One of the points he makes is that to get through a good challenging graduate program you need a basic IQ of about 115, which is not that high. According to Gladwell, “In general, the higher your score, the more education you’ll get, the more money you’re likely to make, and–believe it or not –the longer you’ll live.” (Gladwell 79). Yet! Gladwell continues with the important caveat that success and IQ are not always compatible: “The relationship between success and IQ only works up to a point. Once someone has reached an IQ of around 120, having additional IQ points doesn’t seem to translate into any measurable real-world advantage” (Gladwell 79).
Assignment
Please read over my comments above and also assess what you read in the book.
Explain your reaction to the Gladwell’s assertion that it was not simply the fact that many of the successful artists, computer programmers and athletes put in long hours–presumably even more than 10,000 hours, but in fact their success was also to some degree dependent on their birth date, access to certain venues, connections, or even, luck? Does the use of Bitcoin benefit the economy of the country?
Topic: Bitcoin
For this assignment, you need to schedule interviews with 2 respondents. For each respondent, complete the following information:
Who: identify the respondent. Include the person’s name (which will be kept confidential, if needed) and whether they are a representative or expert respondent. If they are an expert respondent, identify their credentials (their profession, job title, work location, etc.). If they are a representative respondent, briefly describe how their experiences are relevant to your research topic.
How: Identify how you will conduct the interview: face-to-face? Phone? Skype? Email? Some other format? Also identify how you will collect your respondent’s answers: Will you take notes during the interview itself? Audio or video record the interview and take notes later? Will the respondent write the answers and thus record them for you?
When & Where: Identify the date, time, and place at which you have scheduled the interview. Obviously, this depends a bit on how you are conducting your interview: an in-person interview will need a specific date, time, and place. A Skype or phone interview requires a date and time but not necessarily a place. Email interviews don’t have specific date, time, or place restrictions, but you still need to indicate when you will send your interview questions and when you expect to receive answers from your respondent.
