Briefly define the competency that the badge celebrates.

Introduction
We conclude Creativity & Innovation in Business with a creative challenge that will facilitate reflection upon what we learned and accomplished this semester. You’ll design two merit-badges that celebrate the advancement of creative competencies: one for a classmate, and a second for yourself.
Process
Select the two creativity or innovation competencies that will be celebrated via the merit badges. We began the semester by introducing several competencies through the personal creativity assessment—e.g. fluency, flexibility, novelty, playfulness, openness, etc. — and fostered several more through the Pizza Challenge—pitching, divergent & convergent thinking, brainstorming, minimalism, etc. We also developed self-coaching skills through the reflections and debriefs across the semester. Choose one competency for yourself, and another for a classmate.
Design 2 digital merit badges that expresses the skill and might bring joy to someone’s life.
Use 1080 x 1080 pixels (i.e. an Instagram square)
Consider using Express or Illustrator via your free Creative Cloud subscription. Canva is another free option but watch out for micro-transactions.
Export the design as a .jpeg file.
Crafters: do feel free to make hand-made badges. If you do so, simply take a picture of the badges.
Remember to diverge to generate many options (fluency) from diverse perspectives (flexibility) before committing to a design.
Contextualize the design to make your intentions explicit. Use grammatically complete sentences to provide the following information:
What? Briefly define the competency that the badge celebrates.
How? Briefly explain how the design expresses the competency.
Why? Why did you award yourself this merit badge? Why are you are awarding a classmate the merit badge?
Brag share the merit badge you created for yourself to the discussion forum on SLATE. Include the What? How? and Why?
Give one merit badge to a classmate using the online discussion forum on SLATE. Include the What? How? and Why?
Celebrate your classmates’ accomplishments and learnings. Read your classmates posts to see what badges they designed and whose accomplishments they celebrated. You can also give a merit badge designed by a classmate to someone else. In fact, you can award as many badges as you see appropriate.
Evaluation
The Formative Reflection is worth 20% of the final grade. The two merit badges will be evaluated separately and are worth 10% each.
A Likert scale ranging from ‘strongly agree’ to ‘strongly disagree’ will be applied to evaluate the merit badges via following criteria below.
Completion
The author created a merit badge that was 1080 x 1080 pixels. 2 points.
Reflection
The author explained what the merit competency the badge celebrates. 2 points.
The author explained how the merit badge expresses the competency. 2 points.
The author explained why they awarded the merit badge. 2 points.
Creativity
The design of the merit badge expressed the competency in a novel or original way. 2 points.

Calculate using Excel formulas, the NPV of each of the 3 projects.

Excel Project Assignment Instructions
Overview
Assume ABC Company has asked you to not only prepare their 2017 year-end Balance Sheet but to also provide pro-forma financial statements for 2018. In addition, they have asked you to evaluate their company based on the pro-forma statements with regard to ratios. They also want you to evaluate 3 projects they are considering. Their information is as follows:
End of the year information:

Account 12/31/17
Ending Balance
Cash 50,000
Accounts Receivable 175,000
Inventory 126,000
Equipment 480,000
Accumulated Depreciation 90,000
Accounts Payable 156,000
Short-term Notes Payable 12,000
Long-term Notes Payable 200,000
Common Stock 235,000
Retained Earnings solve

Additional Information:
Sales for December total 10,000 units. Each month’s sales are expected to exceed the prior month’s results by 5%. The product’s selling price is $25 per unit.
Company policy calls for a given month’s ending inventory to equal 80% of the next month’s expected unit sales. The December 31 2017 inventory is 8,400 units, which complies with the policy. The purchase price is $15 per unit.
Sales representatives’ commissions are 12.5% of sales and are paid in the month of the sales. The sales manager’s monthly salary will be $3,500 in January and $4,000 per month thereafter.
Monthly general and administrative expenses include $8,000 administrative salaries, $5,000 depreciation, and 0.9% monthly interest on the long-term note payable.
The company expects 30% of sales to be for cash and the remaining 70% on credit. Receivables are collected in full in the month following the sale (none is collected in the month of sale).
All merchandise purchases are on credit, and no payables arise from any other transactions. One month’s purchases are fully paid in the next month.
The minimum ending cash balance for all months is $50,000. If necessary, the company borrows enough cash using a short-term note to reach the minimum. Short-term notes require an interest payment of 1% at each month-end (before any repayment). If the ending cash balance exceeds the minimum, the excess will be applied to repaying the short-term notes payable balance.
Dividends of $100,000 are to be declared and paid in February.
No cash payments for income taxes are to be made during the first calendar quarter. Income taxes will be assessed at 35% in the quarter.
Equipment purchases of $55,000 are scheduled for March.

ABC Company’s management is also considering 3 new projects consisting of the purchase of new equipment. The company has limited resources, and may not be able to complete make all 3 purchases. The information is as follows for the purchases below:

Was Washoe’s behavior typical for a young chimpanzee?

Humans, especially children, have an amazing capability to learn language.  Within the first year of life, children will have learned many of the necessary concepts to have functional language, although it will still take years to develop fully.  But are humans unique in their ability to acquire language?
As you know, as a graduate student I was chosen to work with Dr. Roger Fouts at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute (CHCI), a sanctuary for chimpanzees used in ape language research and home to world renowned Washoe, the first nonhuman to acquire a human language.  Four of the chimpanzees, Washoe, Moja, Tatu and Dar were immersed in American Sign Language (ASL), and they learned to communicate by using signs in their daily interactions.  Loulis, Washoe’s adopted son was not cross-fostered.  He acquired his signs from Washoe and the three other chimpanzees.  He was the first non-human to learn a human language from other non-humans.  Thus, Loulis observed the other chimpanzees using the signs of ASL around him, like CHASE and TICKLE during play interactions.  Washoe would even mold his hand into signs like MORE for new food.
By observing and researching how Washoe and her family learn and use the signs of ASL, we have gained a better understanding of the patterns of language development that bridge species barriers.  In addition to our use of language, we have also seen that our emotions and social bonds are very similar to chimpanzees.
Read the attached excerpt from “Next of Kin” by Dr. Roger Fouts & Stephen Tukel Mills and answer the following questions:
1.  When Fouts started working with Washoe, how many signs did she already know?
2.  How was Washoe’s language developing?
3.  What FUNNY prank did Washoe pull on Fouts?
4.  How often did Washoe play pranks on Fouts?
5.  Fouts was panicked that Washoe was going to die.  Why was this?
6.  Was Washoe’s behavior typical for a young chimpanzee?

Why should this problem be examined?

THIS IS WEEK 5’S INSTRUCTIONS

This week we will continue the work you did in the week 2 discussion, zeroing in on the topic for your final paper.

Describe a problem you might want to explore in your final paper. Then try to persuade your classmates to share your view that this problem needs to be looked at. Your initial post will have two parts:

What is the problem? Describe it in terms of who, what, where, when, how, and why.
Why should this problem be examined? Persuade your peers that money/time should be committed to this problem. Use the appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos (described here in Types of Persuasive Appeals) as appropriate to convince them that this is an important issue to be studied and/or solved.

(Death Penalty in US) Describe at least two moral positions on the matter.
  1. Revised the Ethics Timeline from the file uploaded to include the philosophers David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche, Philippa Foot, Immanuel Kant, Thomas Hobbes, John Stuart Mill, and Mary Wollstonecraft.

Potential Software or Tools to Make Your Timeline:
Miro: This is typically used to collaborate on a whiteboard-type space, but you can use it, too, to create a detailed whiteboard artifact (like a timeline).
Canva: This is a free graphic making tool that allows you to create a custom graphic. There are many templates, so you may find a timeline template you can modify. It also comes loaded with a variety of free graphics, shapes, and elements you can use for the timeline graphic details.
Google Drawing: As part of your University of Maine System account, you have access to a free Google Docs or Google Drive account where you can find Google Drawing. This is a free graphic-creation or “paint” software you can use to create your timeline. (Note: you can also use Google Slides to make your timeline).
Creately: This is typically used for project management, but you can also use it to create a timeline for this class.
Venngage: This software will help you create a classic, simple timeline.
Lucidchart: Another tool often used for projects and collaborations that can also help you generate a timeline.
Prezi: This presentation tool has templates for timelines you can use to create yours. If you choose, you could share a link to your interactive Timeline with this software (just make sure it’s open and shared to the public).

  1. (Death Penalty in US) Describe at least two moral positions on the matter. Establish an ethical framework to approach the subject. Cite at least two philosophers to validate each moral position you’ve established. (300-500 words)
describe the facts that support a finding that the State disproved the parental-discipline defense beyond a reasonable doubt.

State v. Treadway
Link: https://caselaw.findlaw.com/me-supreme-judicial-court/1682693.html
In either narrative or bulleted format, explain the procedural history of this case. Use, identify and explain specifically in the context of this case, the following terms:
Trial court
Jury trial
Appellate court
Using specific statutory language and section number(s), list the elements of assault and list the facts that support the prosecution’s argument that defendant committed assault. Include the class of this crime in your answer.

Using specific statutory language and section number(s), list the specific elements of domestic violence assault and list the facts that support defendant’s conviction for each element of this crime.

In analyzing the domestic violence assault section, it’s important to understand the exact meaning of the term “family or household member.” Using the reference given in section 207-A, state the definition of family or household member. How does this apply in the Treadway case?

Using specific statutory language and section numbers, list the elements of the parental-control justification. Be sure to include reference to the objective standard in your answer.

Once the defendant has raised the parental-discipline justification, the burden of proof is on the State to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt that the conduct was justified. Identify the facts that the appellate court uses to explain that the parental-discipline justification was sufficiently raised.

Using the elements, you explained in #4 above, describe the facts that support a finding that the State disproved the parental-discipline defense beyond a reasonable doubt.

Develop a 20 slide PPT lecture titled “Human Sexuality: Sexual Dysfunctions Among Women”

Develop a 20 slide PPT lecture titled “Human Sexuality: Sexual Dysfunctions Among Women”
You can present each slide of your PPT using the Notes feature to walk the audience through each slide.  Highly suggested historically women’s sexuality and sexual health was viewed by the medial community, and then transition to today’s experience.

When designing your PPT presentation:
You might want to personalize your approach, positioning yourself and your interests within the presentation (a first-person approach) or you may want to be more academic or journalistic in approach and tone. Many decisions will have to be made to compose an excellent presentation. You will have ample opportunity to approach the task creatively.
A successful slide presentation will:
Make a clear case for the importance of your research.
Clearly and engagingly deliver important insights from your research.
Effectively use the multi-media capability of the PowerPoint medium.
Highlight research sources (including references).
Be effectively edited.
Adhere to the required time limit.
Rhetorical and Stylistic Mistakes to Avoid
Distracting fonts.
Text-heavy slides.
Visually difficult color contrasts.
Reliance on clip art.
Image and text / spoken text don’t align.
Presenter / voice-over just repeats text on slides.
Organizing Your Presentation
You have freedom to compose your presentation as you would like. I strongly encourage you to outline your presentation before you start composing individual slides. PowerPoint provides options for outlining. You may even want to draw an outline, sequencing and designing slides on paper with pen or pencil.
Here is one logical structure you might use or adapt:
Slides 1-2 approx. (Importance of your research)
Slides 3-7 approx.  (Context or background of the issue)
Slides 8-13 approx. (Present your research—making your main point)
Slides 18-20 approx. (Conclude)

What were the three most valuable lessons you learned in the class?

Take home. Each student shall write a 4 page paper in which they critically interact with the following questions:
What were the three most valuable lessons you learned in the class?
Why were they the most valuable?
How have they affected your character?
How will they influence your future life?

× How can I help you?
