Explain how a person could slip, fall and be injured. Note that injury could trigger negligence. Specify the four elements of negligence and specifically apply the elements of the tort to the facts. PICOT Medical Research Discussion

Respond to the discussion below add citations and references:PICOT stands for P is the problem or population, I is for the intervention, C is for comparison, O is for outcome of interest and T is for time to do the study. Medical practice problems are focused on the diagnosis of a disease or illness. Nursing practice focus on plan and the intervention and treatment of patient. PICOT can be used in developing for Evidence-based practice. To make the PICOT questions for EBP need to know why the study is being done. PICOT helps to summarize research and answer questions. The important part of research is developing questions to give you answer in your research. The main implication of this study is that the researchers should pay attention to proper framing of the research question – they should consider using a structured approach such as the PICOT format to frame it as this is likely to determine how the study is designed, conducted and ultimately reported(Rios, 2010 pg.7). This article research explores the use of PICOT with they had better questions for better quality better and reporting of key methodologies.References:Grand Canyon University (Ed). (2018). Being Short Staffed Discussion

Respond to the discussion below add citations and references:A nursing problem I have experienced is being short staffed. Nurses are than expected to take care of additional patients, provide the same care with less staff. If an emergency arises they don’t have the same support from the regularly staffed nurses on the floor. Working short staff is one of the top reasons nurses leave hospitals or facilities in which they work. Some states issued provisions for nurses who work in intensive care to only have two patients each due to the care the patients require. If there is a shortage of nurses on the floor the patients are safety and health can be jeopardized. It also increases the risk of injury on the nurse trying to work without help. A study in Health Affairs wrote that nurses who work short staff can hinder the nurses ability to carry out care and that when staffed adequately hospitals had 25% lower incidence of being penalized for having readmissions by the Affordable Healthcare Act.(McHugh, 2013)I believe the problem of working short staff should continue to be studied and offer incentives for not calling out or have additional per diem staff available. Nurses won’t get burned out and patient care can be maintained at a safe and healthy level.Matthew D. McHugh (October 2013) Hospitals With Higher Nurse Staffing Had Lower Odds OfReadmissions Penalties Than Hospitals With Lower Staffing. Retrieved from; Grand Canyon University (Ed). (2018). UMGC Patient Seeking Healthcare Service Discussion Responses

Respond to discussion post:Brianna HartDiscuss the impact of co-pays and deductibles on demand for health care services for insured individuals.               Co-pays vary between cities, states countries and even continents; they can make or break a company or an individual. If someone is insured and pays for insurance monthly and anytime they need to be seen they have to pay a co-pay, it may deter that particular individual from seeking healthcare depending on that individuals financial situation. In that aspect, the company wins, however if an individual wants to be seen and is financially well off a co-pay should not be an issue, therefor the company loses especially if it’s an expensive visit. Economic theory predicts that co-payment may reduce the individuals demand for health care services by increasing the price paid by the consumer at the time they rendered services. (Houlberg, 2013)Deductibles are another way to indirectly limit healthcare access by capping it at a certain number. Once an individual caps out and meets the maximum dollar amount allowed, or if they are getting close, they tend to back off the appointments a little bit. However this can cause an adverse effect on less-healthy individuals because by limiting deductibles it inadvertently limits care. Some people are so worried about it they even avoid free services such as mammograms and colonoscopies, mainly because they could be uneducated and not realize these service are free. Without receiving these free services/tests it could potentially lead to more costly services. (Maas)4.  What is adverse selection? How do insurance companies minimize its impact on premiums?Adverse selection is a situation in which individuals of different risk types decide whether or not to buy insurance (Economics, Chapter 16). People who are may have a high-risk job or at more risk to get a type of cancer is more likely to want health insurance but individuals who are considered low risk are less likely to voluntarily buy health insurance. Health insurance from an employer gives generous employer premium subsidies that lead to higher participation rates, which leads to a larger risk-pool (UMGC, n.d.).

Technological Advancements Discussion

Help me study for my Writing class. I’m stuck and don’t understand. Read the following passage and write a comment (just your opinion, do not need citation).Passage:Technological advancements are often considered by most people to be modern marvels. Mainly, these advancements are seen as initiatives to make life better for human beings. However, some people remain skeptical or overly anxious about technology because of the many demerits that may arise, and those with reservations often maintain that these demerits significantly outweigh the merits. Deciding who is right is relatively complicated because it covers many dimensions, like morality, science, and finance. In terms of environmental impact, it is factual to state that advancements in technology have led to a decline in people’s connection to the living environment.First, there is a lack of an ethical framework to guide how a man can relate to the land he lives on, including the plants and animals. Aldo Leopold’s work, “The Land Ethic,” gives a detailed account of how humans lack a close connection with the living environment. He explains that the ‘Golden Rule’ provides an ethical framework for how a man can cope with society, and democratic principles guide how social institutions can integrate men together. However, when it comes to how there can be an integration between man and his natural surroundings, no ethical framework is provided. On that account, people tend to behave more like conquerors of their environment, such that they exploit resources to reap maximum benefits. Developers will use any resource at their disposal to accelerate technological advances. Unfortunately, the conquering perspective adopted by man is self-destructive. Man would be better placed if they assumed the roles of citizens instead of conquerors (Leopold 203-205). As citizens, they would view themselves as part of the environment and thus more cautious about how they are using it. Their efforts would incline progress more towards sustainability and stability.Instead of taking accountability, people are relying on scientists to make the right environmental decisions for them. Many people assume that scientists are knowledgeable about what they are doing and thus leave the responsibility of protecting the environment to developers (Leopold 205). Unfortunately, their assumption is not accurate. Scientists are uncertain about the impact of technology on nature because they cannot explain all of the recent environmental changes based only on observation. Scientists are presenting facts based on probabilities but cannot yet ascertain various metrics that show a direct correlation between development in technology and a decline in environmental sustainability, now commonly referred to as climate change (Gardiner 564-566). Despite an abundance of evidentiary indicators, scientists cannot make conclusive enough claims to adequately deter further industrial development. It seems that people are more concerned about the economic gains associated with technological advancements. In fact, it seems a significant percentage of people are unconcerned with what new technology does to the environment. Consequently, economists arguing from a perspective of cost-benefit analysis maintain that it is more costly to reduce CO2 emissions than to cope with adaptations to climate change (Gardiner 569). CO2 emissions have been identified as the primary pollutant that contributes most to the human-induced greenhouse effect. Cutting down on its emissions would affect every aspect of industrialization and, by extension, technological advancements. Thus, proceeding with advanced technology and later dealing with the consequences seems like a less costly approach for economists and industrialists (Gardiner 570). Amazingly, industrial progress has been more highly prioritized than the health of the planet. From this evidence, one can deduce that people are not as concerned as the should be about the impact of technological advancements on the environment. It appears that there are no social rules to guide them. As long as their immediate needs are being met, people would rather shift responsibility, as is the case with scientists, or postpone it all together, as in the case with economists.  It appears that humanity’s relationship with nature has been severely damaged by technology.
