Choose at least 3 images to discuss for the week, and in one to two sentences, explain why you chose these images. Was it a personal connection? Did you like something in particular? Or Did you just simply choose them because you felt like it? For your three chosen images, provide a visual analysis. Describe what you see. Think about shape, material, color, pigment (if it has any), and texture. Is it an object? A sculpture? A painting. Observe the image, and simply just describe what you see. Then list 3-5 facts about the image. Situate it in its historical context and tell me something we won’t know just by looking at it. Consider questions like who made it?

First off, what if anything do you remember or have you heard about the WTO protests, and how does it fit or not fit with what you saw in the film and/or read in Murphy & Pfaff? The WTO Protests take place on the cusp of some of the transitions we’ve talked about in class regarding media – between an older broadcast-centered media environment and a newer “new media”-centered environment. How does the film display that shift, and how do Murphy & Pfaff help us understand that shift? Where are the points of overlap and where are the points of difference between advocacy around human rights issues and the kind of activism shown in the film?

The WTO Protests take place on the cusp of some of the transitions we’ve talked about in class regarding media – between an older broadcast-centered media environment and a newer “new media”-centered environment. How does the film display that shift, and how do Murphy & Pfaff help us understand that shift?
Where are the points of overlap and where are the points of difference between advocacy around human rights issues and the kind of activism shown in the film?
Murphy and Pfaff focus on the modes of organizing that activists utilized before and during the WTO Protests in Seattle, and the film interviews some of those organizers and shows some of those strategies in action. What does this form of organizing tell us about both the WTO Protests and current activism?
Finally, how can we use the film to dig deeper into an analysis of news (using other theorists like Hartley and Jenkins as well) that goes beyond the simple label of “fake news.”
As always, these prompts… you know the drill.

The administration of a prison and prisoners is a very unique situation that most individuals will never experience. With that said, should judges with no experience in dealing with this specific area of the criminal justice system determine what is best for the prisoners or should  prison administrators who have the experience and understanding of the system and security issues determine what is best for the prisoners? Explain and support your position with outside sources.

Imagine you are a health care manager for the Krahe Health Care facility. You have emailed your assistant manager, Michelle, the survey data for patient satisfaction, quality of care, and likelihood to recommend. You have asked Michelle to review the data and create a presentation for the staff addressing the impact of the data on the facility. Michelle reviews the data but questions the importance and usefulness of the data to the staff.  Write a word email reply to Michelle explaining the importance and usefulness of statistics and data analytics. Include the following in your reply. Explain the importance and usefulness of the data provided with respect to the health care facility in the scenario. Identify the users in this data. Explain the impact of the data to the health care facility in the scenario. Explain the role of statistics and data analytics in the health care industry.

Week 3 – Discussion
Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Research Design:   Abstract/Introduction, Purpose, and Questions/Hypotheses [WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs:   1, 2, 3].
Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 5, Chapter 6, and Chapter 7 of the course text.
The abstract/introduction and purpose statement are important elements of a research study in that they advise the readers of your scholarly work what you intend to share with them, as well as the importance and context of your work. Similarly, the importance of a good research question or hypothesis cannot be overstated. It is integral to a research study and ensures the researcher is focused on a measurable target for the success of the research results. It also ensures that the research objective is clearly defined and that the target is specifically measureable.
In your initial post, address the following:

Critique the following abstract      based on the five elements of an abstract as covered by the text. What      elements are present, and what elements are missing?

“Across the world, people are required, or want, to work until an increasingly old age. But how might prospective employers view job applicants who have skills and qualities that they associate with older adults? This article draws on social role theory, age stereotypes and research on hiring biases, and reports three studies using age?diverse North American participants. These studies reveal that: (1) positive older age stereotype characteristics are viewed less favorably as criteria for job hire, (2) even when the job role is low?status, a younger stereotype profile tends to be preferred, and (3) an older stereotype profile is only considered hirable when the role is explicitly cast as subordinate to that of a candidate with a younger age profile. Implications for age?positive selection procedures and ways to reduce the impact of implicit age biases are discussed. (Abrams, Swift, & Drury, 2016, p. 105).”

Describe the elements that      constitute a good qualitative purpose statement.
Describe the elements of a good      quantitative purpose statement.
Discuss the rationale for using      a mixed methods approach.
Explain how research questions      and/or a hypothesis work in conjunction with the purpose statement.

Your initial post should be at least 650 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.
Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7. In your responses, be sure to note any interesting aspects of their response, such as the elements they chose for the purpose statements and their rationale for using a mixed methods approach. Your responses should be at least 200 words in length.
