Discussion #2
It has been more than 11 years that I have been working as a registered nurse, and yet, I can still remember exactly how I felt after the first time I got pulled to another unit. I had been on my own about a month when I got pulled to the busiest med/surge unit in the hospital. There is no schooling that prepares you for being pulled out of your element, and thrown into an environment where you feel clueless, helpless, intimidated, and scared. I think I cried about 4 times that night, in between round-the-clock pain meds, Q 4 hours antibiotics, and numerous admissions. I remember leaving the hospital the next morning, 2 hours late, and was faced with the aftermath of a blizzard. As I left the building, up to my knees in snow, I headed to my car which I had parked on the street. Physically getting to my car was no easy feat due to the snow. Once I did get to the car and cleaned it off- I couldnt get the car out of the spot and had to wait to be picked up. Even though I could not wait to get home, and shut my mind off for a little while, none of what happened with the snow mattered. In that time after leaving the hospital- nothing compared to the misery I had felt working that night. It was a horrible, stressful, miserable experience that made me question my career choice over and over again. I still remember to this day the overwhelming relief I felt as soon as I walked out of the hospital doors that morning.
The principle of stacking is the cognitive process, or mental to-do list that a nurse creates to promote good decision making and clinical judgments in order to provide and deliver safe, effective, and quality care to patients (Laureate Education, 2013). Effective stacking and the ability to apply it to practice is a concept that is developed through clinical experience and actual provision of care (Ebright, 2010). In my personal experience, the quality of care I delivered that night, as well as the safety of the patients could have been improved by stacking, or cognitively organizing and prioritizing what needed to get done. As an advanced beginner, I mentally listed all of the tasks I had to do throughout my shift, constantly referencing my kardex as Dr. Ebright (2013) said I may. Looking back, at the situation, a proficient or expert nurse would have been able to differentiate between what needed to get done, and what tasks were unnecessary- making the experience less stressful than it was.
A stacking strategy I feel may be helpful in managing the complexity of nursing practice in the ED would be routinization. Developing a routine while delivering care to patients can promote effective time management skills as the repeated and integrated approach to routine situations is successfully implemented (Kohtz, Gowda, & Guede, 2017, p. 18). The advanced practice nurse in the ED setting could utilize routinization as a guide to deliver care in the fast-paced environment, while having the clinical experience and foundation of knowledge necessary to revise the routine if necessary. Having clinical experience in the specialty field of ED nursing, as well as in the environment where care is being delivered is important in promoting positive patient outcomes.

This is an individual project, to be completed on your own. It is considered dishonest either to read someone else’s solution or to provide a classmate with a copy of your work. Do not make the mistake of thinking that superficial changes in a program (such as altering comments, changing variable names, or interchanging statements) can be used to avoid detection. If you cannot do the work yourself, it is extremely unlikely that you can succeed in disguising someone else’s work. We are adamant that cheating in any form is not tolerated. Even the most trivial assignment is better not done than if you cheat to complete it.

Introduction
In this project, you will implement the logic of the game Othello, also known as Reversi.
Game Rules
Othello is a strategy board game for two players on a squared checkered board. It is played with identical disks that are white on one side and black on the other. Players take turns placing disks on the board with their assigned color facing up.
The game starts with four disks placed in a square at the center of the board in a standard diagonal pattern: two facing white side up, two facing black side up and same-colored disk on a diagonal with each other. These four initial disks are not placed by the player.
The black player moves first. He must place a disk with the black side up on the board, in such a position that there exists at least one straight occupied line between the new disk and another dark disk, with one or more contiguous white disks bounded between them. During a move, all bounded disks of the opponent’s color are turned over to the current’s player color. A straight line involves: horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines in every possible direction. It is possible to bound disks in more than one direction during a single move.
Players take turns to play. When a player doesn’t have any valid moves, his turned is skipped. The game must keep going while there are valid moves by either player. The goal of the game is to have the majority of the disks displaying your color when there are no more possible moves.
We suggest that you play an online version of the game to grasp the idea.
Your Task
In this project, you will implement the rules and logic for Othello. You are provided with the skeleton code containing the basic methods that you need to complete to launch this game on the java console. You have the freedom to use additional methods and variables to structure your solution, as long as the basic methods behave as expected.
Implementation Details
This project consists of just one class:
Othello: it implements the logic of the game. You will implement the missing methods.
You should begin coding after you have read the entire handout, understood the problem and made a plan for solving it.
Variables
The Othello class will contain the following class variables:
private static final int NONE = 0;
private static final int BLACK = 1;
private static final int WHITE = 2;
and the following instance variables:
public int[][] board;
The variables spelled in all capitals represent the possible values for positions in the board. They are constant, which is why they are declared final. Final is a Java modifier to indicate that the value of these fields cannot change. Constants defined this way cannot be reassigned, and trying to do so will produce a compile-time error. By convention, the names of constant values are spelled in uppercase letters. This convention is used in many programming languages. We recommend that you follow this convention when using constant values.
The board variable is a 2-d squared array that represents the actual board where the game is played. Each position is specified by its row and column. Each position will contain NONE when there are no disks in it, BLACK when there is a black disk facing up and WHITE when there is a white disk facing up.
Methods
You need to complete the following basic methods to implement the game’s logic. A skeleton code is provided below.
public Othello(int length) : The constructor initializes the instance variables and creates the starting board configuration of the Othello game. The input length represents the size of the squared board (same length of rows and columns). Refer to the rules above to see what is the initial state of the game. You can assume that the length will always be an even number.
public boolean isValid(int row, int col, int player) : returns true if the specified position is a valid move for the specified player. For a position to be valid, it should be in bounds, empty and playable by the specified player. Refer to rules above to see what is a playable position.
public boolean hasValidMoves(int player) : scans the complete board to look for positions that are valid moves for the specified player. If there are no valid moves for the input player, it returns false. If there is at least one valid move, it returns true.
public void makeMove(int row, int col, int player) : The specified player makes the move on position (row, col). Refer to the rules above.
public int playGame() : this method implements the logic of the game by making use of the previous methods. Players take turns to play and the position has to be obtained by prompting the users. You have to make sure that players enter valid positions. In case they choose an invalid position, keep asking until they choose a valid one. However, if a player doesn’t have any possible valid moves, there is no need to prompt him and his turned is skipped. Print the board at the beginning of the game and after each turn. The game must keep going until none of the players have valid moves. When the game is over, remember to congratulate the winner ??
To print the board, use the method provided to you in the skeleton: public void printBoard(int turn).
Remember that you have the freedom to add the auxiliary methods or variables that you deem helpful, as well as to reuse methods that you have coded, as long as specified methods behave as expected. An example execution is illustrated below.
Test Cases
These test cases are to help you during your development. There are no test cases for the method playGame and you will have to test it manually.Project02StudentTest
Example
This is an example with a board of size 4×4. We recommend that you begin to test your code with small boards.

Grading Rubric
Extra Credit: Optional
We have implemented a game where both players need to input their position to play. In most games, one of the players is played by the computer. Creating a good Othello automated player is an Artificial Intelligence problem that is outside of the scope of our class.
However, with CS180 experience, you could create a couple of naive yet functional computer players to provide the experience of automated gaming. Think of a very simple strategy that you could use and, in a different module, implement an automated player and include it in your Othello program. You have the freedom to modify the methods, add extra methods, print statements, etc, anything that you deem helpful.
Language Development Between Birth and Age 8 Discussion
Reply to the 4 discussion post (One Paragraph response each). Be constructive and professional in your responses.This week focuses on language development and milestones. Which stage of language development between birth and age 8 do you feel is the most critical? Why? What are some factors that may positively and negatively affect language development? Explain and provide specific examples to support your response. (This is just the Discussion Question for Response 1 & 2)Response 1Satella,The stage of language development between birth and age 8 that I feel is the most critical would be communication. An infant cries to let you know that they want food, comfort or companionship. Then, as they grow they begin to sort out the speech that helps them to compose the words of their language. Some factors that may positively and negatively affect language development are to see if they are motivated to learn, do they have support at home, do they have prior knowledge of the language, how do they feel in the classroom setting, how do I teach the language and most importantly how old are they when they start to learn language skills. Some examples to support my response are that parents who prioritize the language learning process are more likely to push their child to keep trying even when it feels difficult, make sure that the classroom is positive and relaxing, see what the aspects are that affect the learning process by the age of the student, and another example could b to make sure that the students understand the concept of a language.Response 2DiedraI feel the most critical age of language development is age 0-12 months. I feel this stage is the most critical because this is the age where parents build the foundation of speech for their child by talking to them, reading and singing nursery rhymes to them. This is the stage babies start to make eye contact, making vowels and consonant sounds such as ah, ba, ga, ma, da, etc. At this stage babies learn how to make different pitches, sounds and volume. They learn how to put two syllables together to make longer sequences of sounds, which which may sound like normal speech such as mama and dada. This is the stage babies first learn how to communicate their needs and wants. It is up to the parents or adults to communicate back to the their child so they will learn the correct way to communicate their needs and wants without pointing, making sounds, nodding their head or using one word. This is the stage where babies learn who they are by responding to their name by looking, smiling, widening their eyes, or listening. I feel this is the most critical stage because it is the time babies first learn how to communicate.Last week, you had the opportunity to create a content area writing activity for elementary students. This week’s emphasis is on comprehension strategies and study skills in the content areas. What are the key components of explicit strategy instruction? What is its role in content area instruction? How will you use explicit strategy instruction in your own teaching? Explain and provide specific examples to support your response. Response 3KristenComprehension and study skills are a big topic at my school this year. We got special training from a women who is contracted out of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to help our school with comprehension strategies. Students need to be able to synthesize and think about their thinking on a very deep level in order to have a good understanding of the topic. We would use this strategy during our close reading usually with nonfiction but this strategy also works with fiction. Students have a large sticky note for each paragraph. the students read each paragraph to themselves and think about the question “what is important to me in this paragraph?” As students are thinking about this they are thinking about their thinking and internalizing the passage. They are making personal connections therefor hopefully comprehending the text. They write their thoughts on their sticky notes in no more than three sentences. This helps them condense their thinking into what is actually important. The students them share in groups of their thinking and discuss certain aspects about the text. At the end of the activity students use their sticky notes to write a summary.Response 4julieWhen I read about explicit strategy instruction, one of the parts that struck me was that the teacher must be knowledgeable about the students’ understanding and skills with using different strategies. The text suggests having students read a passage and observing what strategies they currently are using to understand the reading. The next component is to create awareness of the strategy — why it is important and how to use it. It is so important to get the students to buy-in to the important of using strategies, otherwise it can just seem like extra work to them. Then the teacher explains the steps and models it for the class. Using think-alouds helps makes this process more transparent for the students. They are not just watching a teacher underline certain section, but also hearing the reason that the teacher chose to highlight that section and not another. Finally, allow the students multiple opportunities to practice the new strategy as well as a time to review it. Do they find it helpful or difficult? This is the part I really struggle with. I don’t think I give students enough opportunities to evaluate the usefulness of a strategies or their understanding of a lesson.

Question 1Review the following paragraph and then answer Questions A through E below.Employee hereby covenants and agrees that Employee will not, without the prior written consent of the Company, directly or indirectly, whether individually or through any entity controlled by Employee, during the term of this Agreement and for a period of 3 years from the termination of this Agreement, for any reason, directly or indirectly, on his own behalf or in the service or on behalf of others, whether or not for compensation, engage in any business activity, or have any interest in any person, firm, corporation or business, through a subsidiary or parent entity or other entity (whether as a shareholder, agent, joint venturer, security holder, trustee, partner, consultant, creditor lending credit or money for the purpose of establishing or operating any such business, partnership or otherwise) which is competitive with the then existing business of the Company. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Employee may own shares of competing companies whose securities are publicly traded, so long as such securities do not constitute five percent or more of the outstanding securities of any such company.A. What type of clause is the paragraph above? Why would an employer want to use a clause like this in an employment contract?[Enter your answer here. All questions below should be answered just like this!]B. Would the clause above be enforceable in an employment contract under Alabama law? Explain why or why not. (Note: You will need to conduct your own research on Alabama law to answer this question. Be sure to cite any sources you use. Hint: I recommend starting with a simple Google search. Many times, you can find articles that give you citations to any relevant statutes. If you find any, it is a good idea to double check the statute to make sure your article is correct! But any reliable sources will work hereyou need to use your judgment to decide whether youre confident in the sources you use.)C. Would the clause above be enforceable in an employment contract in Georgia? Explain why or why not. (Same note and hint as in Question B, although youll need to look up Georgia law).D. Imagine that a company has already hired an employee and the employee has signed an employment contract WITHOUT a clause like the one above. The company realizes it made a mistake and wants to ask the employee to sign a second contract containing the clause above. The company wants to tell the employee that he must sign the second contract if he wants to keep his job. If the employee signs the second contract under those circumstances, would that contract be enforceable? Why or why not? (Hint 1: It does not matter what states law applies; the answer will be the same based on general contract principles. Hint 2: Think about the elements of valid contracts!)E. Imagine that McDonalds decides to require all of its new employees to sign agreements at the time of hire saying that they will not work for competing fast food restaurants in the same town for one year after leaving McDonalds. Would this agreement be enforceable if a McDonalds cashier quits to go work at Burger King? (Hint: There is a pretty clear answer to this no matter what states law applies.)Question 2Michael is a software developer who is hired by TechCo, Inc. on a five year employment contract. Michael is a resident of Maryland. TechCo, Inc. is incorporated in Delaware and its headquarters are located in Madison, Wisconsin. Michael applied for the job after seeing a job posting placed by TechCo in several of the major newspapers in Maryland. Michael works from home in Maryland. Linda and Michael also exchange emails several times a day. TechCo deposits Michaels paycheck every two weeks in Michaels bank account at his bank in Maryland. However, Michael is TechCos only Maryland employee. None of the TechCo executives working at the Wisconsin headquarters has ever traveled to Maryland on business.After Michael has worked for TechCo for three years, Linda calls and tells him that the company must terminate Michaels employment because the company is having financial difficulties. Michael believes that TechCo has breached its employment contract with him. Michael wants to file a breach of contract lawsuit under state law in a Maryland state court. He is seeking $100,000 in his suit. Answer Questions A and B below:A. Would a Maryland state court be able to exercise personal jurisdiction over TechCo, Inc.? Assume that Maryland has a long-arm statute that provides that Maryland courts may exercise personal jurisdiction to the extent permitted by the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Be sure to provide thorough analysis for your answer. (Hint: Consider the 4 routes to personal jurisdiction we discussed in class.) B. Would a Delaware state court be able to exercise personal jurisdiction over TechCo, Inc. if Michael decided to file a lawsuit there? Why or why not? Question 3Answer Questions A through D below:A. (Hint: Your statement needs to create the power of acceptance in the offeree!)B. Explain why your answer to Question A qualifies as an offer from the standpoint of contract law. (Hint: How does your statement meet the requirements for an effective offer?)C. Assume that after you make your offer to Tyler, he replies, How dare you!!! Thats a terrible price!!! Im insulted! Outraged! You disgust me! But, I accept your offer. Has Tyler accepted your offer? Explain why or why not.D. Assume that after you make your offer, Tyler says he needs to think about whether to accept. Three days later, you decide you dont want to buy the coat. You have not heard anything from Tyler. 1ST PEER’S POSTING
Comprehensive Career Program
As an in-home health counselor there are a plethora of client needs that must be addressed including rehabilitation into the workplace and career planning. Because the clientele can be any age or multiple members within a family unit the program plan must be versatile as well as developmental in order to meet the needs of different age range and diverse clients. The program overall will involve needs, interest and personality based assessments, skills overview, and, education and assistance for career-decision making.
Program Planning
The counselors will need to plan the program by developing a curriculum with the goal of achieving identity in the areas of self, social and functionality. (McKinnon & Jones, 1975) Achieving this goal involves administering various assessments, utilizing career education techniques, knowledge and advocacy of different, appropriate, career paths. Due to the wide age range of clients it is essential that the counselor have knowledge of the lifespan and the coinciding developmental stages in order to utilize age appropriate career counseling strategy. (Zunker, 2016) Program will feature:
-Personality Assessment (MBTI)
-Needs Assessment
-Interest Assessment (O*NET)
-Vocational/employment History
-Educational history
-Goal Setting
– Career/Education Options Exploration
-Action Plan
-Personal Counseling to facilitate development of Identity
– Vocational/ Educational Placement
Organizational Needs
Since the program is home-based, in addition to needing competent counselors, they must have a valid drivers license, and, a safe and reliable vehicle in order to travel to client homes as well as occasionally transport clients for therapeutic reasons. Additionally, the counselors will need to obtain consent in order to consult with educators of student clients.
Implementation
McKinnon & Jones (1975) suggest beginning with a needs-based assessment to assess client vocational needs such as interest designation or educational deficits. It is also suggested that the counselor have a collaborative effort with the educators of any youth clients. The program will be implemented with the goal of career education. McKinnon & Jones (1975) define career education broadly as assisting an individual in the total process of becoming. Furthermore McKinnon & Jones (1975) outline career education with 5 themes; solving problems, understanding self and others, understanding the world, obtaining skills and experience, and, achieving identity (self, social and functional).
Once the client needs are assessed the counselors will also administer personality (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and interest based assessments (O*NET) in order to gather a holistic client picture. If the clients are students then this will be the time for counselors to consult with the coinciding educators in order to gather information about client strengths and deficits. (McKinnon & Jones, 1975) For adult clients, this will be the time to gather vocational history and, past work experience, in order evaluate strengths and deficits. Once the information is collected, the counselor will explore career options and develop goals with the client in effort to promote career education and develop a comprehensive identity (self, social and functional).
Administrative Needs
The program needs at least 8-10 home health counselors that are familiar and eligible to administer and score assessments. These assessments also needs to have the ability to be performed and scored in a home setting as many of the in home therapy clients are homebound. The counselors also need to have a knowledge base and advocate for home-based careers and/or education such as online options as some clients may be permanently homebound.
Criteria For Evaluation
The main criteria for evaluation will be in both client survey and job placement statistics. Clients whom are able to successfully enroll in an educational setting, a vocational training setting or a work setting/career will be tallied and measured against the client pool in order to gauge success.

POPULATION: All students (secondary school-aged youth in grades 9-12)
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The mental health counselor is assigned to a number of the districts high schools. The counselor is working on self- and peer-empowerment groups for youth that occur throughout the school year as an open door forum with an agenda to accommodate individuals as they come along. Part of the curriculum focuses on the basics of career development including educational planning and job development skills.
During this section of the curriculum, the counselor both demonstrates and assists the clients with what is appropriate interview attire; applications and resumes; budget planning; and
Some of the other goals for the curriculum include bringing in successful graduates from the local high schools who are interested in speaking to the youth about their life choices and decisions while being products of the school and/or neighborhood. These conversations will include the sway each person had about positive decision-making skills, substance-related concerns; connecting sexual awareness to their life trajectories, and even creating mentors within the school that also reach out to the students families in the community. This will assist individuals in becoming accountable for each other while promoting overall self-awareness for the students.
NEEDS: Faculty participation to become mentors (8-10); a space/room to accommodate the meetings (typically given by the school); community mentors; possible donations from a clothing store; and community partners willing to employee youth from the school after a vetting process.
EVALUATION: Design a tool that will follow youth through their high school process and even afterwards. While in their 9-10 grade years, every three months evaluation; 11-12 grade years, 6 month evaluations; and post-secondary, annual basis. Special interest will be paid towards students in special populations including students who are considered minorities in the educational setting (e.g., if a school is predominately Hispanic, how do White children fair; non-heterosexual identifying students; ESL students; etc.)

Following the guidelines closely (25%)2. Thorough understanding of critical/theoretical approaches (25%) 3. Originality (25%) 4. Writing/communication efficiency (25%) Please use the following format for your second viewing notes. _______________________ Your name: Film Title: Director: Original Exhibition Year: Production: including nationality, studio (production company), genre (e.g. film noir, western), type (narrative, documentary, experimental or animation) and/or movement (Classical Hollywood Cinema, Soviet montage, French New Wave, etc.) 1. Title. What is the significance of the film’s title for the story? How does the title refer to the point of the film in terms of both explicit and implicit meanings? Illustrate your analysis with one image from the film (drawing or still) and analyze how particular element(s) in the shot support your analysis above. (about half page of text). 2. Opening and closing. What are the distinguishing formal elements of the opening and closing scenes of the film? What is the significance of these scenes for an understanding of the meaning of the film? How do the opening and closing scenes act as bookends (formal and/or thematic) for the film? Discuss with reference to Bordwell and Thompson’s comment that “A film does not just start, it begins and “A film doesn’t simply stop; it ends” (about half to one page of text). 3. Sound and Image Relationship. How does the relationship between the soundtrack and the visual track shape the spectator’s expectations in one scene or shot or series of shots in the film? Be sure to identify and discuss the implications of key aspects of the sound you are analyzing, for example, whether the sound is dialogue, noise, or music; sound qualities of timbre, loudness, or pitch; diegetic or non-diegetic sound; off screen sound or on-screen sound, etc. See Film Art, chapter 7; Corrigan, 74-79. Include one or two shot drawings or film stills to illustrate 4. Plot segmentation of scenes and key actions. Be sure you know what a scene is, how scenes are named, and how subsidiary actions described before you begin. Use an outline from as in Do not simply use DVD chapter titles. They do not generally adhere to a film studies’ approach to plot segmentation (three to five pages of text).If you don’t know what plot segmentation is, looking up The Wizard of Oz plot segmentation is a good example. 5 5. Analysis of two shots using appropriate notations. Choose shots from anywhere in the film; they need not be consecutive. For this response you should draw the shots rather than use stills from the film. Draw key features of composition such as placement of characters/objects in planes of foreground, middle ground, and background; striking formal elements such as extreme close up or depth of field; composition and balance in the frame; use of lighting, color, off screen space, etc. Use multiple drawings if necessary. Underneath each drawing list the following: i. Indicate scene by place name and give a brief (one sentence) description of the action. ii. Using abbreviations, indicate shot scale or distance (e.g. cu for close up) and angle of the shot (e.g. ha for high angle) as well as other elements where appropriate such as camera movement (e.g. trs for tracking shot, ps for pan shot, and use of arrow(s) to show direction); character movement within the shot, point-of-view shots (pov), etc. (See Corrigan chapter 2 for abbreviations and Bordwell and Thompson, for a useful list of terminologies.) iii. In one long paragraph (1/3 page), identify the key formal element(s) illustrated by the shot and discuss the significance of this formal element(s) for meaning in the film. The size of the drawings, part of a page to a full page, is up to you. Just be sure points i-iii immediately follow each drawing. Dont place these drawings at the end of the entire entry. 6. Editing relations between two or three consecutive shots. Identify, draw and analyze two or three shots that illustrate a dominant editing strategy in the film and discuss the significance of these shots for that editing strategy (continuity or discontinuity editing; spatial, temporal, graphic, and/or rhythmic). For this response you should draw the shots rather than use stills from the film. (about half page of text). 7. Repetition and Difference. Identify, analyze and discuss the significance of ONE key pattern of repetition and difference in the use of formal elements in the film. Illustrate with two shots (drawing or film stills). Discuss how this pattern of repetition and difference shapes the spectator’s “way of seeing” the action or subject matter of the film (about half to one page of text). 8. Shot analysis in relation to one critical or theoretical approach. Select one shot (drawing or film still) or two consecutive shots and analyze it/them in relation to a key aspect of one of the following approaches studied: formalism/neoformalism, dialectical montage, Kino-truth (Kino-eye), cinematic realism, feminist psychoanalysis, genre theory, and auteur theory. Identify and analyze the formal element(s) in the shot(s) that are prioritized by the approach you select. That is, what is the meaning and significance of the shot(s) selected in relation to the conceptual agenda or critical concerns for film analysis associated with your selected approach? (about half to one page of text). 9. Critical scene analysis essay with film stills. Include a good title for your essay. Select a key scene that particularly interests you in one of the films studied. Develop an argument about the6 relationship between the use of at least two key formal elements in that scene and the implication(s) of those elements in terms of meaning(s) in the film (for example, you can discuss thematic/implicit meaning and/or symptomatic meaning and/or explicit meaning. Indicate scene name and a brief description of the action (one sentence). Incorporate a brief discussion of the usefulness of a critical/theoretical approach selected for analyzing the scene. You should select a different critical/theoretical approach from the one you use in #8. Be sure to analyze elements, not just describe them. DO NOT discuss the same shots you analyze elsewhere in your notes. DO NOT give plot summaries; assume your reader knows the film. Select a scene that we have not discussed in depth in class, that is, try to make points of your own. Two pages double-spaced for the essay and one additional separate page for illustrations (2-4 screen grabs of shots you analyze in your essay). On the still page, below each film still use the following notation: Figure # 1, 2, 3, 4 as they appear in your essay, followed by scene name and one sentence description of how you are using the shot in your analysis.Please provide an answer that is 100% original and do not copy the answer to this question from any other website since I am already well aware of this. Mysql lab (must use mysql workbench 6.3)
Lab7: Working with Views
LAB OVERVIEW
Lab 7 will introduce the concept of database views. This lab may be completed using a local copy of the MySQL database running on your own computer using the OM database tables. The lab will utilize a set of tables that are represented by the ERD (OM_ERD.docx) and are created and populated by the script file (create_OM_db.sql). Follow the instructions in the file CreateOMTables.docx to create your database, tables, and data.
A few IMPORTANT things to note if using EDUPE MySQL:
**There can be NO SPACES in alias names given to a column. For example:
Select unit_price as Retail Price from items; —this does NOT work in EDUPE MySQL.
Any of the following WILL WORK:
Select unit_price as “RetailPrice” from items;
Select unit_price as “Retail_Price” from items;
Select unit_price as Retail_Price from items;
Select unit_price as RetailPrice from items;
**Any calculated fields MUST be given an alias (and note above NO SPACES in alias). For example:
select unit_price * 2 from items; —this does NOT work in EDUPE MySQL
This will work:
select unit_price * 2 as NewPrice from items;
Deliverables
Lab Report (Answer Sheet) containing both the student-created SQL command(s) for each exercise, and the output showing the results obtained. Be sure your name is on the file.
LAB STEPS: Complete each of the exercises below.
1. Use an ALTER TABLE statement to update the customers table so that the Primary Key field is an auto-increment field, then create TWO insert statements to test proper operation, using your own first and last name for one (and a name of your choice for the second one), and any data you care to imagine for the remaining fields.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When using a LOCAL copy of MySQL, if you attempt to simply issue the ALTER TABLE command you have composed by itself, you should receive an error similar to the following (try it for yourself!).
ERROR 1833: Cannot change column ‘customer_id’: used in a foreign key constraint ‘orders_fk_customers’ of table ‘om.orders’
(Note EDUPE will not give this error message, however you should still follow the CORRECT procedure as discussed here to complete this problem).
The reason for this is that you are attempting to alter data in one column that has a defined PK:FK relationship to a field in another table. Referential Integrity rules prevent this. So, how do you resolve such a problem?
One approach to solving this dilemma is to turn off the foreign key checks that implement referential integrity rules. However, the danger here is that other users and processes operating on the database while these constraints are suspended could create or modify data in a way that compromises integrity. We can solve this second problem by preventing other users and processes from altering the data in the table in which we are working until we have turned the foreign key checks back on. We therefore need to construct a script that does the following.
a) Locks the customer table — lock table customers write;
b) Turns off FK checks — set foreign_key_checks = 0;
c) Alters the table to add the auto_increment feature to the PK field
d) Turns FK checks back on — set foreign_key_checks = 1;
e) Unlocks the customer table — unlock tables;
It is VERY important to consider that altering tables can require a bit of time for very large tables, and that while the table is locked, other users and processes cannot operate. Consequently, this kind of modification should not be done during peak operating hours in a production operation (as a student in a lab exercise, working on your own database, you may do this at any time) but ideally in hours during which the business does not normally operate. In cases where round-the-clock, high availability of a database is required, other approaches may be required. Addressing this problem in a high-availability, high-demand environment is an advanced topic, study of which is outside the scope of this course. Use the outline below to construct your script. Show all commands in your answer sheet along with the output of the commands.
lock table customers write;
set foreign_key_checks = 0;
— Replace this comment with your ALTER TABLE command to add the auto_increment feature to the PK field
set foreign_key_checks = 1;
unlock tables;
–statements to insert two rows into the table
–verify auto_increment with a select statement
2. The Vice President of Marketing for your firm wants the firms sales representatives to be able to directly view and edit customer details, but only for the state to which a particular sales representative is assigned. You have suggested that this need can be addressed with a view. For example, a view could be created for one particular state, and user account permissions for accessing that view granted only to sales representatives from that state. The VP has asked you to quickly create a simple proof-of-concept demonstrating how this might work. Complete the following steps:
a. Construct a view on the customers table called CA_CUSTOMERS that consists of all data about customers that live in California.
b. Display the data using this view to verify that only customers that reside in California are visible.
c. Prove that It is possible to add or update records through this view by updating the record for Karina Lacy to change the spelling of Karinas last name to Lacie.
d. Display the data using the customer table to verify that the change has been made.
Show all commands in your answer sheet along with the output of the commands.
3. The Senior Customer Service Manager has requested the ability to create a report at any time that will show shipped orders that took some specified number of days to fulfill.
a. Create a view named SHIPPING_TIME that lists only customer_first_name, customer_last_name, order_date, shipped_date, and the calculated field days_to_fulfill (use the DATEDIFF function) showing the number of days between when the customer placed the order and when it was shipped. Show the data from this view.
Now lets do some queries by adding sorting and filters USING THIS VIEW, WITHOUT CHANGING IT.
b. Use the view to display the data sorted by highest to lowest days to ship
c. Use the view to display only the orders that took less than 10 days to ship.
d. Use the view to display only the orders that took more than 30 days to ship.
4. Queries that require joins and aggregate functions can be easier to construct when using a view as a temporary table. Consider a report to show total sales by artist.
a. First create a view called SalesData that displays the order_id, item_id, the calculated field ItemTotal (which is quantity times price), the title and artist_id.
b. Display the data in the SalesData view sorted by artist_id. Does this help you to visualize how to group the data to create the totals?
c. Create a query USING THIS VIEW and the appropriate aggregate function to display artist_id and the total sales for each artist.
d. Now join to the artist table in order to display the artist_name along with the total sales.
5. Now use this same method to display the total sales per customer.
a. Create a view called SalesData with the appropriate data. At a minimum you will need customer_id and the calculated item total. DO NOT use the customer table in this view, it will be joined later.
b. Display the data in your view sorted by customer_id. Does this help you to visualize how to group the data to create the totals?
c. Create a query USING THIS VIEW and the appropriate aggregate function to display customer_id and the total sales for each customer.
d. Now join to the customer table in order to display the customer_name as a single field named Customer along with the total sales. Sort the report by Total sales in descending order.
This is the end of Lab 7.
