Albany State University Current World Problems Discussion
Lesson 3: How do we Manage Changes in Population?Early adopters of industrialization and medical technologies had more gradual declines in birth rates and death rates than other countries whose demographic transitions occurred once antibiotics and other technologies were more abundant and available. While the population in many (especially poorer) countries is still growing, it is actually relatively stable or even decreasing in many other countries. More economic growth has raised the living standards in some countries to a level where having more children has made it difficult to increase their living standards further. We see this happening in countries that have a high GNP or income per capita. At the same time, many other countries with lower GNPs continue to grow in population as they try to improve their living standards. But blanket statements are challenging, and regional variations are substantial such as the projected doubling in population on the African continent in the coming decades. Overall, we find ourselves today with a relatively few countries considered more developed that have stopped growing in population, while the majority of countries most of whom are relatively less wealthy have higher growth rates that are contributing to a planet with unprecedented population growth.ASSIGNMENTTask: Read Chapter 3. Watch the UN video about sustainability and population. In 250-300 words, answer the questions belowWhat are the causes of population growth and population decline? What is the relationship between population growth and development? What are governments doing to address the problems that come from population growth and population decline? Provide at least two international examples from the news.Early adopters of industrialization and medical technologies had more gradual declines in birth rates and death rates than other countries whose demographic transitions occurred once antibiotics and other technologies were more abundant and available. Course project | Human Resource Management homework help
Objectives
Select, develop, and analyze two mini case studies. The purpose of this project is to identify a successful strategy and compare and contrast it with an unsuccessful strategy, with the aim of identifying critical success factors (CSFs). You may select two strategies developed in the same company or from entirely different companiesor, indeed, different industries.
Case studies are used extensively in teaching business. Typically students perform an analysis on a case study prepared by an author or the professorin this instance, the student is the author of the cases. The case study research strategy provides the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of an organization or eventdata can be collected from multiple sources (for example, company websites, interviews, or published articles).
Please select two examples that reflect success and failurecollect data from multiple sources and develop two mini case studies of 500 words in length. Perform a cross-case analysis by comparing and contrasting the case studies on points of parity and points of difference. This should entail developing a framework, similar to many of the frameworks presented in class (e.g., SWOT or Five Forces) and analyzing the key data in your case studies. The analysis should be presented after your case studies and should be followed by a brief concluding statement and references in APA format.
Guidelines
Mini Case I: (Success): Sufficient length begins with general points and moves to a focus on specifics, evidence of success, good quality contentrelevant, accurate, and timely.
Mini Case II: (Failure): Sufficient length begins with general points and moves to a focus on specifics, evidence of failure, good quality contentrelevant, accurate, and timely.
Cross-Case Analysis: Once you have completed your cases you need to conduct a cross-case analysis. This requires comparing the two cases to determine points of similarity and points of difference.
Research Skills: Each case uses four to six sources, and sources are cited in the text and at the end of the case study in APA format.
Writing Skills: Ideas are communicated clearly in business English and using the appropriate business terminology. Work should be prepared following the development of a rough draft, revision, editing, and proofing to produce a final polished report.
A successful project will meet all of these requirements to earn a maximum of 200 points. At the conclusion of this project it will be beneficial to compare what factors are selected by your peers. Are there patterns here?
Milestones
Week 1: Select company strategies, read supporting documents in Doc Sharing.
Weeks 27: Research and prepare rough draft and analysis, followed by revision, editing, and proofingobtaining feedback.

Best Practices
The Process for Developing a Case Study and Cross-Case Analysis
Generate topic ideas (brainstorm use your experience your interests career oriented choices).
Develop initial ideas (explore the Internet library data bases).
Select a topic (find the best fit between assignment and information/interest/experience obtained).
Develop a research question/set of questions – e.g. Why did this strategy succeed? (answering this question this will guide data collection and helps interpret results).
Data collection and analysis:
Decide on suitable sources and means to access these sources
Conduct interviews/observations, if appropriate
Collect published sources and record publication details (use APA format)
Review data and determine gaps that need to be filled
Determine case study structure (chronological or organized around key events/issues)
Interpret data in relation to the initial research question
Develop an outline Say what you are going to say Say it Say you have said it (i.e. Introduction Main body Summary and conclusion).
Develop a rough draft, revise, edit and proof this is critical to producing a good quality document.
A good case study should be:
Significant
Complete
Consider alternative perspectives
Display sufficient evidence
Be written in an engaging manner
Cross-Case Analysis
Once you have completed your cases you need to conduct a cross-case analysis. This requires comparing the two cases (or more) to determine point of similarity and points of difference. The objective is to determine the critical success factors (CSFs). What are the key factors that led to success? Understanding success also involves studying failure.
The following framework might be helpful. You should identify factors for comparison based on the characteristics of your own cases. Such factors might be charismatic leadership, global growth, effective value chain network.
The CSFs are based on your judgment of the evidence you have collected, and should emerge as you work through this framework. What are the key factors that have led to success. It will be beneficial to compare what factors are selected by your peers. Are there patterns here?
You can present your analysis in your report as a figure, but remember to introduce it and comment on what it means and present your CSFs in the text. Remember to number your figure and give it a title, e.g. Figure 1: Cross-Case Analysis, see below:

SOCW 6361 Social Science Defending Your Policy Proposal Presentation
Defending Your Policy Proposal Once you have built an agenda for your policy, developed a policy proposal plan, and strategically analyzed the composition of the audience to which you will present your policy proposal, you must now be prepared to defend it.In this Assignment, you will submit a video presentation summary of the policy proposal you created from last week’s Discussion. This is a simulation for a presentation summary you would make to policy leaders.Submit a video presentation summary of the policy proposal you created from last week’s Discussion. Be sure to incorporate feedback from your colleagues. Make sure that your summary presentation provides a solid rationale for the passage of your policy, using reputable sources from experts in the field. This should be a simulation of a summary presentation you would make to “real-world” policy leaders, so make sure you are succinct and informative. You can include any visual aids that you think help your presentation. In the case of Jose, he is a 42 year old, Latino male that has substance abuse issues, unemployed, and is homeless (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Jose only has minor legal issues and some of his strengths include some family support and his high school education. Jose also has a history of employment (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Jose identifies his biggest issue is his alcohol abuse. The social worker should focus on the need identified by the client. Jansson (2018), states policy advocates must think deliberately when, they identify options, select and weigh criteria and rank options, and develop a decision-making matrix in order to meet the need of the client. In order to assist Jose and other individuals also experiencing homelessness and substance abuse issues, I would create a policy proposal that provides a well-rounded approach in helping these individuals. The program would allow for individuals to live on campus and receive counseling services to address substance abuse and possible mental health issues. The funding would be through state grants and the employees would be the individuals themselves. A large percentage of their income would go back into the program to provide for their food and housing. A small portion would be in a locked savings account for the individual themselves to build up in order to have enough money for when they are discharged. The individual would also have access to support groups and church service on campus. The program would be a 12 month transitional program.Jansson (2018) discusses how policy ranking high in one criterion but lower in another is a trade-off. Some of the trade- offs would be that individuals may not want to participate and in that event they can be discharged. Also, grant funding may be difficult to obtain. However, the cost of treatment would be more beneficial than sending the individuals to jail or treatment for 30 days that may not be effective.
Participant observation: a study in gender roles
Participant Observation: A Study in Gender Roles
Have you ever thought about how much of everyday life is organized by gender? When you stop to think about it, much of what most people do during the routine of a normal day is categorized as either masculine or feminine. From the soap you use for that morning shower to the restroom you use when are work, much of what we do is influenced even dictated by what society says is appropriate because of our biological sex.
To explore this concept of a gendered society in more depth, you will use the Participant Observation Checklist to organize and conduct your research to identify and explain two examples of how society is segmented by gender at any single location in your community. You might choose a park, a grocery store, your favorite pub or fast food restaurant, a department store, or the local hardware store. Remember that you should be acting in both the participant and observer roles. Look around to see if there are obvious signs that gender determines some aspect of how people act in that location. Then, use the structural functional theory to explain how separating events, actions, or even merchandize by gender works to keep the overall society stable.
For example, if you chose to observe as a casual shopper in department store, one obvious sign that gender is important in how the store is organized is that there are likely two different departments for womens and mens clothing. That same department store would likely have restrooms designated for ladies and gentlemen, too. The structural-functional perspective would suggest that separating the clothing by gender makes it more convenient for shoppers to find what they want, and separate restrooms for men and women are thought to be necessary for reasons of modesty that are part of stable cultural patterns of behavior within this society.
Instructions:
Complete the Participant Observation checklist to assist you with organizing your research and to take notes during your observation. Then, using your observation notes, write a paper that has these elements:
An introduction that explains the research conducted and the purpose of the paper
Detailed descriptions of the two observed instances in which gender influenced the actions of people in the real world. Be sure to address these questions: Who? What? Where? When?
An explanation that incorporates the structural-functional theory to explain how gender was at work to keep society orderly in the social setting that you chose.
A summary that restates the main points of the paper and suggests one lesson learned from the observation that is applicable to your own life in a gendered world.
Your paper should be between 4 and 5 pages, plus a title and reference page. You should include in-text citations in APA format for at least one academic source in addition to the course text. You should include the Participant Observation Checklist when you upload the Assignment into the Unit 4 Assignment Dropbox.

You do not have to discuss the statistics. You need to read and understand the article but you do not have to discuss the methods or statistics. You must read the abstract and discussion to understand the articles though. Summarize and synthesize the articles and try to find themes throughout the documents (such as gender, age, race, or other related variables). In addition, you need to apply a criminological theory or theories to your paper. (This is discussed more in depth below.) Finally, conclude the paper.
CITING: Make sure you reference the articles in your paper and make sure you have a reference section at the end. Citing is a MUST for the paper and it needs to cite appropriately. You must paraphrase and cite at the beginning or end of each sentence.
Theory: You must describe how the theory was developed including the theorist/theorists, and how the theory explains the crime or crime topic you chose. Remember to cite where you retrieved your material.

Can anyone complete a rural needs assessment for the lack of housing
Rural Needs Assessment: In our professional social work practice we may encounter information that would suggest a community wide problem or concern. We can react to anecdotal data or personal experiences, before we critically analyze a problem, which may create a perception that a problem has wider reaching effects on a community than it really does. To effectively address rural social concerns it is important to accurately assess problems, social issues or concerns to assure that, often limited, resources are utilized effectively and efficiently.
In this paper you are to identify a social issue that is relevant to rural social work and use a variety of professional sources including the catchment group, key informants (community leaders, service providers) and the larger community to assess the unmet service provision and service access needs related to the issue. You will use the needs assessment data you collect to inform your Developing Rural Services paper. You will find some specific information about needs assessments and a case example in Chapter 11 of Ginsberg.
Use the following outline to organize your paper which should be about 6 pages with at least 5 professional references (this means academic journal articles and is in addition to the stakeholders you will speak with) and use correct APA style. Use the rubric criteria for headings in your paper to keep yourself focused.
1. Identify a local social concern/issue/problem. Describe why you believe this issue is important and how it has led to unmet services or access to services. What is the relevance to the profession of social work?
2. Plan your needs assessment.
a. Identify Key Stakeholders who will you collect data from?
b. Determine the purpose of the Needs Assessment
c. Identify the underlying theories/assumptions
d. Determine required resources to complete the needs assessment
e. Know the community provide statistical data
f. Choose the type of assessment
3. Conduct a basic needs assessment and share your findings. Do the people affected by the problem view the problem in the same way that you view the problem (See your answer to Question 1)? How does this compare to the viewpoint of key informants and the community at large? What needs are not currently being met in underserved rural areas according to the data you have collected?
Please Note: In order to complete this assignment you will have to actually collect data from real people. So you should choose a topic and area that is accessible for you to complete data collection.

Cost Benefit Analyisis
Option 1
As we discovered this week from our readings and videos, not all cost-benefit decisions can be made from strictly financial data. Thinking about a project you have worked on or proposed, or a project which you feel is critical in your company or community, give an example of a non-financial metric which should be considered and why you think that non-financial metric should result in the approval of the project.
– OR –
Option 2
Your New Product Development initiative is at the stage where a Cost-Benefit Analysis is needed to prepare for the final presentation to management. There are multiples metrics you could use to quantify the benefit of your proposal (incremental sales, nominal payback, discounted payback, NPV and IRR). Choose the one that you feel is most crucial and would best help Management see the value in your proposal. Explain what the metric shows and then discuss how you would go about gathering the data and calculating this for your new initiative (and, if you have already done this in real life, share what you did and what response you got from Management).
Post your initial response by Wednesday, midnight of your time zone, and reply to at least 2 of your classmates’ initial posts by Sunday, midnight of your time zone.?
Cost-Benefit Analysis and Capital Budgeting
How do you know if your great idea is really worth the investment it will take to make it happen?Ensuring that potential investments will provide a positive economic payout is the first step in analyzing your options, selling your idea, and making strategic business decisions. This week we will focus on key Cost-Benefit Analysis aka Capital Budgeting concepts and tools, including: (1) time value of money; (2) return on investment; (3) discounted cash flow techniques; (4) payback period; and (5) internal rate of return. Every business leader must know how to use these tools to assess the potential return for any project they are considering investing in.This week you will:
Learn key terms and concepts associated with Cost-Benefit Analysis
Apply tools and analysis techniques such as Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, and Payback to assess contribution

Hello Professor/Classmates,
Option 1
In last week’s DQ, I briefly mentioned one of my friends in response to another student’s DQ. He recently started his own nonprofit, where I am an honorary advisor. The Atlanta Family Foundation is a charitable social enterprise supporting marginalized families in Atlanta by Providing Food, Shelter & Other Essentials (1).
Before starting the project, I engaged him on the “Why” of wanting to start the nonprofit. It could not be just a feel-good project; he had to put some effort and thought behind mission, vision, impact, and influence. According to the National Council of Non-Profits, “Charitable nonprofits embody the best of America,” shapes our boldest dreams, highest ideals, and noblest causes (2). The primary non-financial metric was Goodwill and Legacy, having a more prominent presence in the local community. Realizing the organization’s short- and long-term objectives tied into the Slogan of “Transforming Communities One Child at a time” (1).

Ethical dilemma is a decision-making problem between two possible moral imperatives, neither of which is unambiguously acceptable or preferable .One action must be chosen, thereby generating a quandary for the person or group who is burdened with the choice. Example, the ethical dilemma which was encountered is in line of patient autonomy. The patient relatives were refusing to have blood transfusion for their child post operatively, despite the possible consequences ,but blood transfusion was necessary for saving the life of the child. With their refusal almost they created the end of life issue situation.
In the above scenario the other nurse was trying to leave the case by mentioning that patient and relatives are not willing and are not consenting for blood transfusion.
I was not against the patient autonomy, but my intention was to save the life of the child by explaining the consequences of refusal of blood transfusion. At last, they understood the importance of it ,they have been convinced for the blood transfusion and the child was out of danger.

Nurses face variety of ethical issues while dealing with patients, colleagues, or other health care personnel. Nurses, as a human being, differ from one another and possess their own intellectual and moral values. The ethical dilemmas vary in different situations depending upon the way we address it. Some nurses deal with the situation easily while it would create a dilemma for others. One of the examples of an ethical dilemma that can occur in our nursing practice is when nurses themselves are not properly equipped to complete their duties like nurses who notice their coworkers lack of knowledge face an ethical dilemma of whether they should bring the issue to their nurse manager (Duquesne University, n.d.).
For some nurses, it would not be a problem and whistle blow right away, whereas, for other, it would be dilemma between patient care and the loyalty to colleagues and employer. One of my colleagues had a patient who had Ventricular Tachycardia then CODED at the beginning of the shift soon after taking the report. It was found that patients potassium and magnesium level been low for the last 12hrs and EKG showing frequent PVCs which was not addressed. The patient was on Lasix injection and the potassium level was not monitored. In my opinion, it happened because of a delay in patent management due to incompetency. My colleague had a dilemma about whether to report it or not because the nurse who gave a report to her was her best friend.
Personally, when I notice the incompetency among peers, I critically analyze the situation and if it is a threat to patient safety, I would report because as per the code of ethics as a patient advocator we are obliged to take action when a patients right or safety is endangered (Mansbach.,Kushnir., Ziedenberg., & Bachner, 2014). If it is something, we can help our colleague improve incompetency, I privately talk and advice the best way so that the nurses license as well as patients safety would not be affected. In that case, I talked to and assessed the knowledge of the nurse who gave the report. She said that she was not so confident to analyze the EKG rhythms and not aware of the protocols of managing patients on Lasix. So, I brought this issue and requested the management for the Inservice education which keeps us up to date in knowledge and skill helping to manage promptly and prevent from reoccurrence of the situation.
