Abortion was a polarizing issue a century ago during the progressive era, and it remains so. In fact, you may have a firm perspective on whether abortion should be legal always, in certain circumstances, or never. Modern perspectives on abortion have been influenced by the pivotal Roe v. Wade case. In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court deemed a state’s banning of abortions unconstitutional. How did that case affect the nation and social work practice? How has it continued to inform public and private discussions about women’s rights?

Sex offender registries are found in each of the 50 states. In some states, registries also exist for juvenile offenders. Read the article entitled “When Kids Are Accused of Sex Crimes.” Then, write a reaction paper to the article. Do you feel that children should be placed on the registry? If so, under what conditions? If not, why do you feel it is unnecessary?

There are many aspects involved with the performance of a self-managing team.  Discuss how you and your team have approached the issue of multitasking as you work on your team project concurrently with individual work on your capstone projects. Include in your discussion the issues related to accountability to the team.  How do you balance the desire to be individually recognized for your own efforts, with the collective recognition given to the entire team for overall performance results?

Each week, you will be asked to respond to the prompt or prompts in the discussion forum. Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length, and you should respond to two additional posts from your peers.

Point out tips or strategies from the article that would be helpful to your peers as they work through their team issues.

Scenario: Anna is a 28-year-old female who was prescribed Bactrim DS for a Urinary Tract Infection. She took her first dose of medication yesterday. Anna has taken Bactrim DS in the past, but today, woke up with hives all over her legs and arms. She was also wheezing and could not catch her breath. Her roommate was very worried about her and decided to call 911. When EMS arrived, Anna was not able to talk and was in respiratory distress. Because Anna was in severe respiratory distress, EMS took the measure of securing her airway by inserting an endotracheal tube (ETT). Once Anna’s airway was securely managed, EMS then gave her a dose of Benadryl and Epinephrine prior to transporting her to the hospital. These medications will help decrease the manifestations of the allergic reaction. Anna remains ventilated and is admitted to the ICU for further care. Answer the following questions related to this scenario: Why are ventilated clients at risk for pneumonia? Explain your response. What nursing interventions can be taken to prevent pneumonia? Explain the rationale for your response. The patient most likely had an allergic reaction to the Bactrim DS that she was taking. Why did the reaction occur even though Anna has taken this medication before without any problems?

Competency: Select nursing interventions for clients with complex disorders.

The patient has multiple intravenous lines. One of the intravenous IV sites is red and the patient winces in pain when the nurse palpates around the site. The site is slightly swollen. What complication does the nurse suspect? What action should the nurse take to prevent further complication at the compromised site?
The patient has a full recovery and is ready for discharge. What discharge instructions would you provide to the patient regarding future administration of Bactrim DS?

You’ve provided a thorough analysis of the implications of both centralized and decentralized decision-making approaches, as well as the potential use of analytical tools for evaluating company performance. Tell me more about the idea of hybrid decision-making models. In some organizations, a combination of centralized and decentralized decision-making is used. Could you elaborate on how Tiller Components might consider adopting a hybrid approach that leverages the strengths of both centralized and decentralized decision-making to address their specific challenges and objectives?

What interests you and your imagination when you think back to early China or the rise and fall of Rome or when you imagine monks making manuscripts or life before and at the moment of the arrival of printed materials? What do you think of ‘the Dark Ages’? in general? Does it surprise you to learn a bit of what was going on then? What is the form and function of Graphic Design at this general point in history?

This week – Respond any or all of these general questions:
What stood out to you in this week’s reading (and perhaps the “What to Look For” talk) that was either new information to you that you think is worth remembering or was just of particular interest?
This isn’t super ancient history we’re talking about here, but… kinda.
