Our juvenile justice system has been augmented numerous times, specifically the past few years. Many of the changes evolved around the fact that most juvenile offenders should be held accountable and responsible for their actions, whereas previous laws focused on rehabilitation. There are many states which have legislation holding juvenile offenders accountable for their criminal behavior by providing punishment equivalent with their age, the crime committed, and any previous criminal history of the juvenile offender. In what manner do you believe juveniles should be held accountable for their criminal behavior? Explain your answer. What barriers, if any, challenge this form of legislation? Identify and explain those potential barriers.

Through studying works of literature and the visual and performing arts, we will examine enduring themes of Russian identity, examining tensions between Westernization versus Slavophile values and the quest for political freedoms versus strong centralized rule. The module challenges students to analyze factors that facilitated the rise and fall of Russian imperial power, including institutionalized serfdom, rapid industrialization and militarization under the Soviets, and today’s post-communist order under Vladimir Putins leadership.
Our comprehensive survey will equip students with critical analysis of primary documents and seminal figures. Assigned readings, lectures, films, and discussions will highlight Russias growing prosperity and global expansion alongside its struggles with political oppression and dissent. By answering module questions and crafting essays around milestones studied, students will gain appreciation for Russian civilizations immense impact on global economics, governance, arts, literacy, and religion across the centuries.

Identify an incident from your workplace where leaders made a decision or engaged in a behavior/action that you believe stemmed from the implicit bias of those leaders in some way. What was the result of that decision and how could a more comprehensive decision have been made to avoid the pitfalls associated with implicit bias?
Implicit bias, which we all have, impacts critical and creative thinking. Identifying these biases in our values is a large part of this course because it impacts each and every decision we make in our lives…including our workplaces. As leaders it is imperative you are aware of this issue and its impact on thinking, behavior, and change.
Watch the following 16 minute TED talk with author Melanie Funchess and answer the questions below. Ms. Funchess is Director of Community Engagement for the Mental Health Association for Rochester, New York.
The speaker talks about “transformational activism” which includes:
1. Call yourself on your own stuff.
2. Make connections with people not like you.
3. Use privilege to create equity.
4. Intentionally engage in non-biasing activities.

For your initial discussion post, choose one component of the sliding filament theory and explain why it is essential to the process of muscle contraction. Describe where the component is found within the sarcomere and the function it serves. Use your own words to create your discussion post and choose your topic from this list:
Actin
Myosin
Troponin
T-tubules
Sarcoplasmic reticulum
Acetylcholine
Action potential
Example: Calcium
Calcium is stored in the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Stored calcium ions are released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and bind to troponin. This reveals the binding site for myosin heads to attach.
