The NOR gate is a universal gate. A universal gate is a logic gate which can implement any Boolean function without the need to use another type of logic gate. So this means that you can create any logical Boolean expression using only NOR gates. NOR gates are sometimes used in combination to perform AND, OR and inverter operations.
