Reflect on the distinguishing features of each model. Then, read the scenario below and identify the curricular model depicted. Provide a rationale for your selection. (2 3 paragraphs)ScenarioYou have been invited to a preschool classroom. Although the students were busy and moving around, the classroom was calm. One group of children was practicing addition using colored beads. Another group was sorting different shapes of beads and counting them into different containers. While walking around the classroom you observe children using utensils to perform tasks such as spooning Jell-O and pouring water. Not only does this activity indirectly help prepare children for handwriting, it prepares them for practical life skills using real not play materials. In a far corner you notice other children engaged in activities that would broaden and refine their sensory impressions. One child was touching different fabrics; another child was smelling cotton balls moistened with different odors. A third child was playing with boxes that when shaken makes different sounds. Behind them in the far distance, you notice a child building a tower with colored blocks horizontally. The teacher stated he was exploring. You are intrigued with what you saw and would like to implement the approach in your preschool classroom. Where have you seen evidence of a successful commitment to diversity, equity or inclusion at your organization?
After reflecting on Module 7s assigned resources (listed below), consider your internship sites commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Begin by looking at your organizations website for a statement of diversity, equity or inclusion (most y organizations or companies will have one). If your organization doesnt have a statement on their website, look for an organizational mission statement or a corporate social responsibility statement. Read the available resources, consider your experience working at this site, and answer the following questions. (Note: Please do not use diversity, equity, and inclusion interchangeably since they refer to different things.) Make sure to integrate at least one required course into your answer.Where have you seen evidence of a successful commitment to diversity, equity or inclusion at your organization? Is your experience with the organization consistent with the organizations statement on diversity, equity and inclusion? Please provide specific examples. Are there places where your host organization could more effectively pursue diversity, equity or inclusion? As you answer these questions you might consider: diversity of employees and organizational leaders, culture of inclusion, training around diversity, equity, or inclusion provided to staff, discussion of DEI issues in relation to the organization or the work that is performedWhat are some ways that you can commit to promoting equitable, diverse and inclusive work spaces? (Both in your current internship and in your future work experiences).Submission guidelines:Your journal should be approximately 300-350 words in length and should address each question in the assignment directions. Please integrate at least one source into your response and cite appropriately, using APA. Explain how the environment you have created would encourage development of the creative self in young children in each area of your classroom.
Throughout this course, we have been discussing becoming the Whole Teacher. One of the five pillars of becoming the Whole Teacher is to find ways to encourage child-centered active learning. As we learned through our conversations in the discussion forums this week, two elements that contribute to the development of this type of learning environment are the physical and creative aspects of the classroom. In your assignment this week, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of how to foster a physical and creative learning environment that promotes child-centered active learning by completing a grant application. At the monthly administrators meeting for ABC Early Childhood Center, the regional director shared with you a grant opportunity for early childhood centers to receive a grant of $5000 to remodel your center to stimulate physical activity and promote creativity for your students. The regional director encouraged you all to apply and you have decided to take them up on their suggestion and complete a grant application. In your grant application:Describe your current educational setting, including the age of children (0-2, 3-5, or 6-8), number of children you work with, and the philosophy of your education setting. You can base this either on the education setting in which you are currently working or you can create a fictitious center. (.5 points)Design the classroom environment that you would create with the grant money that is based on developmentally appropriate strategies and tools to promote optimal cognitive development and learning in young children. To create your illustration you may use Classroom Architect(Links to an external site.), Scholastic Class Set-Up Tool(Links to an external site.), or Kaplan Floor Planner(Links to an external site.). Attach a copy of your classroom design to your grant proposal. (2 points)Discuss how the design of your classroom environment aligns with Figure 1.1 from the text and is supported by current research about optimal classroom environments. (1 point)Explain how the environment you have created would promote optimal physical development and learning in young children in each area of your classroom. Use specific examples from your illustration and research to support your decisions. (1.5 point)Explain how the environment you have created would encourage development of the creative self in young children in each area of your classroom. Use specific examples from your illustration and research to support your decisions. (1.5 point)Summarize how the grant money will help you to ensure you can create a learning environment that promotes child-centered active learning and 21st-century skills. (2 points)
Explain cultural self-awareness and why this connection exists.
Question: Cultural Self-AwarenessClick the scenario button below to review the topic and then answer the following question: Description: When you, the external consultant, came into the facility and applied your cultural empathetic strategies to facilitate problem solving and make suggestions for the worksite, you recognized your affinity for the people that seem to lack the most power and privilege because this feels relatable for you. This feeling is part of cultural self-awareness.Question: Explain cultural self-awareness and why this connection exists.
Describe the purposes of a literature review.
Before beginning work on this weeks discussion post, review the following resources:From the below list, select one topic for which you will lead the discussion in the forum this week. Early in the week, reserve your selected topic by posting your response (reservation post) to the Discussion Area, identifying your topic in the subject line. By the due date assigned, research your topic and start a scholarly conversation as you respond with your initial or primary post to your own reservation post in the Discussion Area. Make sure your response does not duplicate your colleagues responses.Describe the purposes of a literature review.Compare how literature reviews are used in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches.Outline the steps in conducting a literature review.Discuss the significance and meaning of a problem statement (or purpose statement).Synthesize key concepts in a way that articulates a clear point, position, and conclusion supported by research. Select a different bullet point than what your classmates have already posted so that we can engage several discussions on relevant topics. If all of the bullet points have been addressed, then you may begin to reuse the bullet points with the expectation that varied responses continue. The final paragraph (three or four sentences) of your initial post should summarize the one or two key points that you are making in your initial response. As the beginning of a scholarly conversation, your initial post should be:Succinctno more than 500 words.Provocativeuse concepts and combinations of concepts from the readings to propose relationships, causes, and/or consequences that inspire others to engage (inquire, learn). In other words, take a scholarly stand.Supportedscholarly conversations are more than opinions. Ideas, statements, and conclusions are supported by clear research and citations from course materials as well as other credible, peer-reviewed resources.Engage in a discussion with at least two colleagues and respond to questions from your professor by the end of the week. For grading:The reservation post and initial post are assessed in the rubric line item Quality of initial posting.Neither the reservation post nor the initial post count toward days of participation.Follow-up posts made throughout the week to your colleagues and professor will apply to participation points in the rubric. All posts will be assessed for writing mechanics and information literacy. Be sure to review the expanded rubric for more details on grading criteria.
Write a 2 page explanation of why it is important to include in a developmental supervision model the domains that Stoltenberg (2008) describes.
Developmental Models of SupervisionAlthough there are many different models of supervision, this weeks Discussion focuses on developmental models because they are perhaps the most widely used supervisory models. Developmental models are uniquely created for supervision and training. Stoltenberg (2008) suggests that a number of domains should be evaluated for supervision, including intervention skills competence, assessment techniques, interpersonal assessment, client conceptualization, theoretical orientation, professional ethics, individual differences, and treatment goals and plans. Each of these domains provides a wealth of important information for a supervisor to assess in his or her supervisee. To prepare for this Discussion, review Stoltenbergs developmental model of supervision (see Chapter 3 in Falender & Shafranske, 2008b).Write a 2 page explanation of why it is important to include in a developmental supervision model the domains that Stoltenberg (2008) describes. Then, select one domain and fully describe its function or purpose. Finally, explain how you would integrate that domain into your own model of supervision.Be sure to support your post with specific references to the Learning Resources.READINGSBeck, J. S., Sarnat, J. Write a 2 page description of your imaginary shame attack.
Can Shame Attacks Be an Effective Technique? What makes you feel embarrassment? Maybe you hate when a neighbour drops by unexpectedly and sees that your house hasn’t been cleaned recently. Maybe you fear looking silly on the dance floor so you avoid dancing at all costs. Now ask yourself a second question: What would happen if you purposefully exposed yourself to something that caused embarrassment? What if you went to your friend’s wedding and danced in the most ridiculous way you can think of for one song? How might you feel the next time you attempted to dance regularly? Albert Ellis calls this practice purposefully doing something that causes distress, embarrassment, or anxiety a shame attack. The purpose of this technique is to demonstrate that what a person says to himself/herself during the activity will actually lessen the embarrassment. You might have observed in the Week 1 REBT demonstration that Albert Ellis has a humorous and distinctly colourful personal style. Shame attack exercises are one example of various types of homework exercises that Ellis developed to expose clients to distress and embarrassment as a means of overcoming irrational thoughts by disputing those beliefs. They are designed to help the client experience and change her or his beliefs about the emotional consequences of another person’s perceptions. For this Discussion, you are asked to imagine yourself in an embarrassing situation. (You do not have to actually carry out the exercise.) What constitutes a shame attack situation will be different for everyone. You might imagine being in a grocery store and walking a stuffed pet on a stick, or singing on a public bus or train, for example. To prepare: Imagine placing yourself in a situation where the type of shame might be slightly embarrassing. As you conceptualize your situation, consider what fears or irrational thoughts you might have about the situation before it occurred. Then, consider what you might say to yourself to make the event bearable. With these thoughts in mind: Write a 2 page description of your imaginary shame attack. What did you say to yourself to make the exercise bearable? What did you learn from this exercise? Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources. Use proper APA format and citations.
Is the American dream today, as you understand it, really just about attaining wealth?
Week 6, Discussion Board Is this dystopia (an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one.)?In Sandler, Kamp, and Coopers work, we get a sense of the American Dream unraveling.a. Is the American dream today, as you understand it, really just about attaining wealth? Or is that model crumbling due to economic pressures that dont seem to be easing? How are we faring, given stiff competition in the global world? According to the definition of dystopia above, are we there? Explain.b. What is the lesson of Jay Gatsbys experience? What did he hope to attain? Was his a rational and attainable dream? Would he ever have fit in with Daisys world? What is Fitzgerald getting at, exactly, in this American classic?c. Analyze the character of Daisys husband Tom. What is his type? Who is he and who does he want to be? Why does he win in the end? What is the authors message, then?d. The Rolling Stones once claimed, You cant always get what you want, but if you try sometimes You get what you need Is this true of the characters in The Great Gatsby? Did they get what they needed in life? What did each need?e. Finally, select four quotes from The Great Gatsby that you think encapsulate this storys essence and post them in your discussion board posting. Tell why you selected each one and relate the quote to both the tragedy of Gatsby and to your own connection to the quote. For instance, I might select, They had forgotten me, but Daisy glanced up (at him) and held out her hand; Gatsby didnt know me now at all. I looked once more at them and they looked back at me, remotely, possessed by intense life (96).Here Nick sees Daisy and Gatsby totally engaged with one another. In this moment of emotion, no one else exists for them in this world. I wonder if that is really how love is when it is first uncorked and acknowledged, or if that is just romantic fantasy. The world around them has ceased to exist and they are riding on passion. There is no room left for thought or rational awareness. Love is the drug
